THE Best Vegan Mexican Food! - Edit
La Charrita is my favorite place to eat out, and is the best Mexican food that I've eaten. It's so good that I've introduced at least four of my friends from out of town to the place and chose it as the destination in my family's offer to take me out for my birthday. It's easily the most showoff-able place for a vegan living in Santa Clarita (there isn't a single fully plant-based place here). Once the theater in Downtown Newhall opens, I imagine that the restaurants nearby, including La Charrita, will become much busier on weekends.
Read moreThe carne en jugo vegana is my favorite dish, and it is easily shareable, if you prefer to share a bit of every dish with friends as I do. It comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. I've ordered it every single time that I've come here aside from my very first time, before I knew better.
I've also tried the jackfruit tacos (delicious!!!), cauliflower tacos, jackfruit flautas, torta with cactus "meat," chile verde burrito, mole burrito, birria burrito, sopes (I don't remember if it was jackfruit or cauliflower) as well as the horchata (mmm!), tamarindo, and jamaica. The flan for dessert is also excellent, though they don't always have it. There are many dishes I'd still like to try, including many from the breakfast menu, which I've neglected to-date.
(Note: If getting the three tacos, all must have the same "meat," so order one á-la-carte if you're looking to sample).
The vegan menu is separate from the omni menu (front and back of the last page), which eliminates the mental strain of figuring out which dishes come plant-based versus which need to be modified (as is the case at many other veg-friendly restaurants).
It's a cute and small place and there is often only one server working, so be prepared for a little bit of a wait. In other words, you may want to think twice about the timing of your visit here if you are in a hurry and the place is fairly full. Wait until you aren't in a hurry so that you can relax. It'll be worth it.
The location is easily missable, as it's a bit tucked away and most visible from Newhall Ave. I recommend taking Main St., where it's much easier to turn and then fit in the diagonal spaces in the parking lot. For reference, look for the Labor Ready or State Farm, or for the dentist office on 6th and Main. If the spaces are full, there's usually plenty of parking on Main St. or the lot across the street (near the new art-related stuff).

Pros: Absolutely delicious food & drink, cozy & inviting, No confusion at all about which dishes are vegan, In an area with increasing entertainment options
Cons: Service likely to be somewhat slow at peak times, Finding the location can be confusing at first

Delicious Vegan Mexican! - Edit
My family and I wanted to spice things up a little from our usual local eateries so we drove almost an hour to try this place out. We were not disappointed! Everything was delicious. I was totally shocked by their vegan flan, partly because I have never liked flan, but theirs was so good.

Delicious! - Edit
My first visit yielded a lukewarm review, but I've been back twice and I've been absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. I've had the vegan posole, a few different burritos, rice and beans. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for your food, they typically only have one waitstaff in the dining room, and I get the feeling that the food is really prepared from scratch.

Authentic Mexican w/Vegan Options! - Edit
Me and my husband loved this restaurant so much. They had so many vegan options that we didn't know what to get! Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert options. We ended up getting the vegan breakfast burrito! So yummy! We can't wait to take friends and family there because they have options for everyone! Great service too!

Delicious Vegan Options - Edit
The vegan options they offer are delicious! We came here twice during our trip and all together ordered the Vegan Tacos "al pastor," ceviche tostada, sopes de coliflor, and the Vegan fajitas. Our favorites were the Vegan tacos "al pastor" and the ceviche tostada. The most realistic thing we tried was the ceviche tostada. They made cauliflower into faux shrimp. The texture was on point as well as the taste. It tastes like the ceviche my mom used to make me when i was a meat eater, delicious! Their horchata was also AMAZING! The vegan flan was delicious too. Everything about this place is amazing, I'm glad they're 100% on board with offering vegan options. 10/10

Amazing vegan Mexican cuisine - Edit
Large vegan menu offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff was very friendly and talked to us a little bit about their story. They've always made Mexican cuisine and when the family became vegan, they used those flavors that they knew so well to create wonderful vegan adaptations of their favorite dishes. There were so many great dishes to choose from, my husband ordered the mole jackfruit enchiladas, and I had the jackfruit al pastor sopes. Amazing!! We also brought some non-vegans with us, they only ordered off the vegan menu and we're surprised at how much they enjoyed it. They now have been eating mostly vegan ever since! We also tried the vegan flan and it was so delicious. Love seeing a place like this in our hometown. We'll be back!

Vegan Mexican in a food desert! - Edit
Was in total disbelief at quality & care of this traditional Mexican place which is located in an area with very few vegan options. The vegan owners are gradually veganizing the restaurant and currently have a separate, extensive vegan menu. They are passionate about it and doing a fantastic job. I ate a variety of tacos and absolutely loved the their jackfruit ones. If you're ever in this area be sure to try it. Hope they make it to 100% vegan soon!

I was so pleasantly surprised to find such incredible vegan Mexican food in the Santa Clarita Valley!
Read moreThe owners told us that they plan to convert the entire menu tp a vegan one.
I ordered the soyrizo/cauliflower tacos, and they were not only very resonably priced, but were delicious! I also tried a jackfruit taco, and that was amazing also. I ended the meal with a piece of vegan chocolate cake, and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal.
Highly recommended!

Five stars! Even though I can only leave 4! - Edit
Even though this place isn't a vegan restaurant they pretty much offer best selection of vegan options in the Santa Clarita Valley!! They have a full vegan menu, and many of the non-vegan dishes offered can be prepared vegan as well! They do a great job recreating authentic Mexican dishes using vegan ingredients. My husband and I have tried the taquitos, various burritos and tacos, and the pazole and have enjoyed everything we've tried! So yummy! The staff is always friendly and helpful and I truly appreciate their effort to bring vegan options to our town! Such a great find!

Homemade Mexican food with separate vegan menu! - Edit
I recently visited here with my husband after a friend posted photos on Instagram. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and was led to a table. Shortly after sitting, a waitress brought us tortilla chips and spicy salsa. I was excited that the restaurant has food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The waitress also told us that the menu options are available all day. I like this option in case we wanted to order breakfast in the afternoon or dinner in the morning.
Read moreI ordered vegan horchata which is made with coconut milk or almond milk, vanilla, water and cinnamon. The drink was sweet, refreshing and delicious. My husband ordered a tea and said it was tasty.
For our meals, We started with vegan ceviche which was made with cauliflower as well as onion and peppers and served on a tostada and a side of guacamole. My husband loved the ceviche so much, he plans on buying some for future beach trips.
They have a variety of vegan soft tacos offered so I had one of each four type of tacos: soyrizo, potato, cactus, and jackfruit. The soyrizo taco was spicy yet not overpowering. The potato taco was surprisingly sweet yet fillingThe cactus taco was interesting to me in that it's taste and texture reminded me of green peppers. The jackfruit taco was spicer that the soyrizo taco but still delicious. The tacos and sauces were expertly paired and was elegantly plated.
My husband ordered the vegan soapas which consisted of cactus on top of masa served with beans and Mexican rice. my husband commented that his meal was good and he'd definitely have the dish again.
I appreciate that although the restaurant has a separate vegan menu and that the staff is friendly. Some things to consider when visiting here is that they have one bathroom for both men and women, it is $1.00 for drink refills, and since all food is made fresh to order, you will have to wait a while for your food. While it might take a while for your meal to be ready, the food is so good, it is well worth the wait.
Pros: Separate vegan menu, Friendly staff, Variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Cons: One bathroom , Long wait for food (it's made fresh)
