Nice oatmilk latte - Edit
It is a rare find in the region, a fully vegan restaurant.
Read moreIt's perfectly located in downtown Arles and has a very nice atmosphere inside and in the garden too.
I wasn't sure whether I should order at the counter or if they pick up the orders at the table. Eventually, I ordered at the counter after waiting outside for a while.
It is written on the boards that card payment is from 15 EUR, but they let me pay for my coffee (5 EUR) by card.
Pros: Fully vegan restaurant , Nice atmosphere

Cute little place trying to do everything right - Edit
We came here in March for lunch and had the dish of the day (which was pumpkin, rice and salad) and a leek tart with salad. It's a cute place and we appreciated that they use organic and local produce as well as aim for zero waste. The staff was very nice and they explained the dishes in English. There's outdoor seating in the courtyard as well. Lovely place!

Organic and homemade - Edit
Seating is in a beautiful courtyard. They have choices of a dish of the day and 2 tartes/pies, all served with salad. The food was tasty and fresh, even the salad dressing was delicious!
Read moreThe tartes were a quiche made with tofu and a caramelised onion and aubergine tartlette. The assiette du jour was a macaroni ragu.
We couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Good, could be better - Edit
The atmosphere of the plaza (which Da Vinci made a painting of) is amazing, and the server I had was quite kind. Definitely was busy around 2pm!
Read moreThey only had one “plat du jour” left, so I went ahead and ordered it. Like various other “plats” or “assiettes” I’ve had at vegan restaurants in France, it was essentially a bowl of half salad (crudité) and half grain. The salad was pretty good, nothing special but light and yummy. The rice stew (?) with tofu and tomatoes was also pretty, definitely not spicy at all but had some nice flavor.
However, even as someone who loves spice, I took great issue with the massive amount of pink peppercorns dumped on my food! Why was my little piece of baguette and tapenade smothered in peppercorns, so that when I bit into one, my mouth just flooded with pepper flavor, over and over? Either the chef made a mistake or they don’t put enough prep and testing into their changing menu (unsure if it changes daily or weekly).
I finished off my meal with an espresso, for a total of 18 euros. Pretty steep for a bowl of grains and veggies plus an espresso shot! The atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was pretty good, but does not warrant the price for me. If the bowl had more oomph in terms of protein, maybe beans or more tofu, and the flavor wasn’t so off from the peppercorns, I would choose to return. Their tartes look nice though, maybe I would get that (14 euro instead).
Overall, 4 stars. 3 stars for a decent vegan meal, 1 star for beautiful outdoor seating, and that last star is not filled due to price and peppercorns😡
EDIT: I have to deduct a star for a tarte with a mushy crust and a TERRIBLE matcha latte (tastes like I was drinking dirt water with spirulina powder to make it green for 5 euro).

Pros: Only vegan place in Arles, Healthy food

Amazing vegan food in beautiful courtyard - Edit
This place is an absolute gem. Healthy, fresh homemade food in a small cafe with outdoor seating in a courtyard behind and on the street at the front. When we visited the options were smoked tofu tart and a green pea Dahl, and chocolate crème or a muffin as desserts.

Delicious, all-vegan gem in Arles - Edit
We really enjoyed our lunch here - there were two mains on offer and we each ordered one and shared. We loved both the veg lasagne and the veggie tart. Each came with generous, delicious and fresh salad. We were there a little off season so didn't have trouble walking in. Delicious pear tart for dessert, too! Staff were so nice, and told me they prepare different dishes every day based on available produce.

The gem of Arles! - Edit
What a great place! Top location at the l'espace Van Gogh. I love their zero waste policy. On my first day in Arles I came there just before closing time, once again vegan options are rare in France. They prepared me a hot vegan meal. They put it in metal boxes which I could return the next day. Since I was for 2 days in Arles I knew I would have my breakfast and late lunch here too.
Read moreThey are so kind. The atmosphere is amazing. All the meals they prepared tasted great. Delicious juices as well along with real Italian coffee.
I hope more companies around the world should follow the zero waste policy.

Fresh et fraîche - Edit
The provençale vegan scene fluctuates more than is welcome. Marseille is on a downswing in 2021 but in Arles things have started to improve again. This has become a strong staple of the town. With excellent organic and ecological credentials in terms of its approach and offerings, La Cantine Vegetale keeps a small menu but the offerings are always spot on. The pastries are subtlely flavoured steering just clear of worthy. It’s not cheap but it’s wholesome, well considered, and you can sit in the hospital garden and consider the same trees Van Gogh did when he painted here.
