Read moreWhen we arrived the queue was long but we were lucky and got a table within 10 minutes. The restaurant was full, it was very loud but it was worth it. The poutine was very good. I ordered the regular portion which was quite a large portion. When I saw how big the larger one was, I was glad I ordered the regular one.
The service was quick and very friendly.

The venue was very busy but moved along quickly. We were in a line outside that wrapped around the building. The vegan poutine was delicious and in heaping amounts .

Did the obligatory tourist thing of 'let's go get poutine' in Canada, thankfully my friend of a friend knew of this spot as it did vegan poutine and recommended it (alongside the La Bonheur).
Read moreSat down, got ourselves a pint of LTM hoppy ale and chilled out. Ordered the regular La Bonheur after being told grande is a pretty hefty portion and not feeling too much up to the challenge. Food came and was a big portion for a regular!
The gravy and vegan cheese curds were nice, all the different toppings like the pepper and vegan sausage were delicious, also the gravy!
Pros: Nice spot, cool decor, Good selection of poutine dishes, Best beer I had in Montreal, too!

Glad that there are vegan options here - Edit
On a weekday we arrived at the location and it way past lunch time. To our surprise we noticed a lineup with a few people. It was cold that day and luckily we were dressed properly and were seated in about 40 minutes.
Read moreWe assumed there was just one type of gravy and it was vegan friendly. In our rush to order and eat we failed to ask if the normal gravy was vegan friendly as well or not.
Ordered a Vegan La Rachel - very good fries and lot of fries for the size. Nicely topped with green peppers, onions mushrooms and vegan cheeze shreds. The gravy was disappointing. Perhaps because it was gluten free. Not the zing, and lower seasoned and flavour.
Vegan La Veggie Reggie - a veggie patty, coleslaw swapped for a vegan coleslaw, tomatoes and pickles lots of them. Everything is fine except again the gravy.
The service is good however the tables are so close to each other that the distance between the two tables is 12-18 inches. Very close for comfort for us. However I don’t believe you go here for an intimate meal.
Pros: Fries are very good
Cons: The gravy was a big disappointment

As a huge poutine fan, I can affirm that the vegan poutine here is very yummy! There are many toppings available, including vegan sausage. Would be nice if they eventually switched to vegan cheese curds though.

We went here with Omni parents as a bit of a tourist thing to do in Montreal. The vegan Poutine was really good, not the best I've ever had but still good. We added fried onions to ours.

I went to La Banquise with non vegan friends expecting to be disappointed with their vegan poutine. I've had a lot of bad imitation cheese sauces and the like in my day, so I was honestly really surprised when it was delicious!
Read moreDon't get me wrong, this is unhealthy, greasy good that most people probably don't eat sober. But the fact that there even is a vegan option in a menu littered with meat and cheese makes this a great place to check out with omnivore friends. If you want poutine (and only poutine), you won't be disappointed.

Read moreThe fries were INCREDIBLY soggy. I am not sure if they absorbed the whole sauce or what, but they were at the point of mushiness even. What I could see of the gravy was very thin, and there was also very little of it (did it go into the fries?).
Overall, the dish was mushy, texture-less and lacked flavour. Nothing seemed spiced, just a general bowl of soft mush. I'm definitely disappointed, and I don't really get what the hype is about, because looking at the pictures, the omni poutines fair about the same. Go to Poutineville instead, just on the other side of La Fontaine park.

They have a few vegetarian options. The sauce is always vegetarian and you can ask it to be changed for vegan sauce. They also have vegan cheese. La Banquise is a Montréal classic, it's very crowded but their poutines are quite good and you can go with non veg people.

I was so glad to be able to get a vegan poutine from a popular poutine restaurant, I could try it with my non vegan boyfriend who obviously wanted to get the real "en grain" cheese. Well, that was really good ! Only surprise : we saw a lot of people in the restaurant with a big portion and though this was the large sized poutine... well, no, it was the small size, and we were quite overwhelmed when we saw our actual large sized poutine coming ! So, get the small portion people, it will most likely be more than enough
