Quick and Filling

We stopped in here for lunch when we needed a meal close to the station. The good news is that you don't get much closer to the station than this, so it's very convenient. Even though it was lunchtime, we didn't have to wait for a table. You place your order using a tablet, which you can easily switch to English and select the vegan tab. There were 4 vegan options.

Our party of three all chose the rice and tempura bowl. We also had this dish on a previous visit last year. This time we thought the tempura was more consistent - each piece was hot, and the batter was light and crispy. There was a good selection of vegetables, including mushrooms, broccoli, peppers, and pumpkin. The rice was nicely seasoned with a sauce.

Each dish comes with a side salad, which is not really what I would consider a salad, more of a cold noodle dish with a couple of bits of onion. We got soba noodles, which weren't as good as the udon we tried previously, but that's personal preference. The dressing wasn't as good as we remembered either, but maybe it was just an off day. The dish had a lovely texture from the crispy noodle bits.

All in all, this was tasty and convenient, but not especially memorable. Classic train station fare. Service was really great.

Good soup

I had the hot vegan soba soup. It was good! Lots of vegetables.

Unfortunately, my companions didn't like their non-vegetarians meals as they were boring and very fishy.

Convenient and good

The restaurant is conveniently located in the station and has pretty long opening hours.
There are 4 vegan options.
We got the Tendon with soba salad and picked vegetables on the side.
The portion is filling and everything tastes freshly made. The tempura is really crunchy and made of many different and unusual veggies (like paprika, broccoli and japanese peppers).

Pros: Tasty, Decent portion size, Location and opening hours

Dedicated vegan menu

Really easy to order on a little tablet at the table, and there is a tab for 'vegan' which gives 4 different options for meals. We got the rice and the udon, and they were both delicious! Food came out really quickly, and it's in a very convenient location in Kyoto station.

Convenient and yummy!

It's convenient because there's not much vegan food at kyoto station. And vegan soba are still very rare here!
I don't know any other place in Japan which has vegan kenchin soba! They are so good!! Warming and so many veggies.

Wouldn‘t specifically come back

Forgot to take a picture. Came here because we were starving and the location is convenient after arriving with the train. Ordered the rice bowl with vegan meat and tofu & a side salad with udon. The rice bowl was disappointing, but the side salad was decent. There was also a weird smell when we entered the restaurant.

Tasty vegan options and super fast service

Restaurant in the shopping mall beneath Kyōto Station with the fastest service I ever encountered.

If you are having problems finding it (like me 🤪) and are coming from the the central entrance or Shinkansen trains follow the signs to the Kintetsu underground line. Right to the entrance to the line is an escalator which leads to the restaurant street of the Kintetsu Shopping Mall where Kyoto Soba-Morihei is located.

Went there in the early evening and had to wait 10-15 minutes but it was worth it and the super fast service made it up anyways. Ordering is done via tablet which you can set to english. They have four vegan options and an extra point in the menu for them.

I chose the tempura bowl which comes with a soba noodle salat and pickles as side dish. It was very yummy.

Very good possibility to get some vegan food after a daytrip and returning to Kyōto Station.

Catered for all our family dietary requirements

It's very hard travelling with multiple dietary needs, including severe allergies. My daughter, who is vegan, very much enjoyed her vegan tempura and soba noodle dish. The waitress was very helpful in helping us with the selection available for our son with several severe food allergies. The food was great, and the staff was very personable. It was a very enjoyable evening

Pros: Clearly marked menu options for Vegans , Friendly accommodating staff, Options for non vegans

Yummy Plant-based Soba

Plant-based menu available, tried the Tounyuu Yuba Soba and its delicious; if you’re particular about allium do rmb to inform staff to remove the green onion garnish.

A little bit hard to find as its located near the Kintetsu Nara Line side.

Pros: Affordable, Easy access, within Kyoto Stn compound

Cons: Only 2 items available.

Good cold Soba Soup

We had the hot and cold Soba Noodels Soups. The hot soup was good, but we liked the cold soup more because it was tastier and the noodles where harder and not completely soaked with soup and too mushy. The extra 180 Yen (about 1 Euro/1 Dollar) for more noodels it's worth it when you are hungry.

Convenient location near the Kyoto Train Station.

Pros: Tasty cold Soba Soup, 180 Yen for extra more noodels, Convenient location

Cons: Hot Soba Soup: Noodels were mushy

Good but not the best

We went there right after arriving at our hotel and looked for something quick and vegan. It was perfect for this but these udon noodles were not the best I had during my stay in Japan!

Very nice restaurant

I was desperately looking for some vegan food in Japan. And this one was quite a catch. It’s not located under the station but it’s on the same level as the ground/street.
I was also searching it for quite a long time cause some descriptions are really misleading. It’s at Kintetsu Mall. There are three malls at the station but look for Kintetsu. Also they put a menu pictures in the front window stating they have vegan options which is really nice. Food was awesome and until now I managed to try two vegan menues already and loved them. Would definitely recommend!

Pros: Food

Good noodles, decent tempura

We were looking for something to eat close to the station and this did the job nicely. There were 4 vegan options, you order from a tablet on the table and there is a clear vegan section.

My partner and I both got the rice bowl and tempura. It came with a side noodle salad where you can choose between soba or udon noodles, we both went for udon. The tempura bowl was good, there were a variety of well coated vegetables. Some were hot and crispy but some were a bit cold and soggy. The rice in the bowl was dressed in some sort of sauce so it had a bit of flavour, I personally would have preferred a bit more sauce.

The side salad was great. Plenty of noodles, some sliced onions, a green leaf of some sorts and crispy noodles on top all dressed in a well balanced sweet and sharp dressing.

I'm not sure why people say this is hard to find, you need to follow signs to the kintetsu mall and you need to be down on the first floor of the station building if you're coming directly from there. Once in the mall, you can check the directory and it's number 28. The location on Google Maps was pretty much spot on.

Good if you’re looking for a quick option at the station

Once we found this place (please don’t rely on google maps) we loved it. Great that it has a separate vegan menu, all the ordering is done via a tablet on your table.
Very quick service. Tempura pretty decent and the soba salad side was yummy.
As previously mentioned go down the escalator opposite the JR ticket area (not the one near the main station entrance at the bus terminal-the other one) and head straight on from there.
Dropped a star as there was a lot of meat/fish on the menu and on all the pictures around the place which was a little bit off putting, not their fault just my issue.
Would recommend

Nice vegan options in train station

A little difficult to find (Google maps forgot to tell us to go down one more level), but once we got there, service was fast and convenient. If you are at the JR ticket line, go in the opposite direction down a set of escalators and walk about 400m (past the bathroom on the right)

Several vegan options to choose from, price expected for being at the station. Staff spoke English, and menu was readily laid out with a large page front and back of the vegan options. Hot soba soup was made with kelp broth, and was pretty decent. Not as flavorful as a ramen, but had plenty of noodles, veggies, and fried tofu. My partner got the rice with tofu and soy meat, with the set for cold soba noodle salad on the side. The large bowl with tofu was a bit bland, but the soba noodle salad had a delicious dressing on it that he then put on his tofu bowl.

Pros: Convenient, Several vegan options to choose from

Cons: A little bland, but not bad
