Delicious!!! - Edit
Kusa was previously called SUPE and, according to their facebook, has recently been renamed and rebranded. The interior is minimal, but very stylish and pretty. The staff are welcoming.
Read moreWe are not very familiar with japanese food apart from the usual fare offered in European restaurants, so we were fascinated with the variety of choices. In the end, my husband chose the All in One sushi platter, while I had the miso pekora ramen. We also shared the spongy tofu.
Everything tasted truly excellent and we even ordered another portion of the spongy tofu because we loved it so much. We also had the crème brûlée cheese cake for dessert, which was divine.
The location is not too convenient and a bit off the beaten path (of course depending on where you are), but it was absolutely worth it.
The restaurant was packed with people, so it might be best to reserve a table in advance.

Excellent Chocolate Cakes. Experimental Japanese Dishes. - Edit
SUPE Vegan was called "Sushi Kitchen" when I visited, but the restaurant name changed due to copyright reasons. I was impressed by every dish I tried here. Eating the Inari Sushi (the tan bean curd wrap with rice inside) reminded me of my childhood days, because I enjoyed that same dish as a child-- and then ate it 20 years later at this restaurant.
Read moreI'd like to address the comments that another reviewer shared here: SUPE Vegan does offer Japanese dishes, which their menu is clear about. Inari (which I mentioned above) and ramen are Japanese dishes-- so I disagree with the reviewer about this aspect. However, I do agree that SUPE Vegan's food likely isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, like what you'd find in Japan. I would describe it as Japanese dishes with a twist: not authentic, but more experimental.
I enjoyed the apple and green tea chocolate cakes from here so much, that I took four slices to-go.

Japanese inspired, yes. Japanese cuisine, no. - Edit
I lived 10 years in the Tokyo area, most of which was before being vegan. So I know what I'm talking about when I say that Supe is not going to satisfy cravings for Japanese food. Some of it looks like the real thing (the sushi and makis), but even they don't feel like veganized forms of sushis one might have eaten when they were omnivore.
Read moreDon't get me wrong, the food was quite good. But keep expectations in check when visiting. The fact that none of the staff speaks Japanese and that no Japanese at all appears in the menu (I asked, they don't have another one) says it all. It's a well known fact that Japanese nationals love to eat their cultural food when abroad. So if a place selling so called 'Japanese' food does not cater for Japanese people, it's not a good sign.
The restaurant in nice and cosy though, and the food is beautifully presented.
I won't go again, but I'm glad I did.
Pros: Beautiful and mostly tasty food, Nice interior
Cons: Not going to satisfy Japanese food cravings, A bit on the expensive side

Excellent sushi and noodles in a fantastic atmosphere - Edit
How awesome is it to find a Japanese sushi restaurant that’s 100% vegan right down to the mayo? The food itself is excellent, the atmosphere is a perfect upscale modern casual, and the staff is wonderful - shout out to Rashid who was incredibly polite and friendly. Sushi Kitchen must be strict in who they hire, because I had the same experience with the staff at the George Town branch who were also genuinely friendly and caring and proud of the restaurant. If only every restaurant was staffed with people this pleasant! While the sushi is of course great, I highly recommend trying the udon noodles. They’re a good thick udon with just the right amount of chew and texture that makes them hearty in exactly the way good udon should be, and the veggies and sauce are great as well.

Value for money - Edit
Huge menu, so much to choose from. I took the mushroom tempura, a mix platter of sushirolls and a wrap. For dessert a chocolate cake with green tea cream. Everything was delicious, I got enough to eat and with a lemongrass-ginger infusion it came to 56 ringgit only. The service was exquisite, the place looked luxurious, the feeling and mood was relaxed with nice and chill background music. I loved it, perhaps the best restaurant of all the ones I tried in Malaysia over a month and a half, and I will definitely visit again next time I'm in KL!

It looks amazing, it taste ok. - Edit
The menu is amazingly large. All vegan. Not too expensive (not cheap either). The atmosphere is great. Classy and romantic but still casual. On the other side the main waiter was a little pushy when it came to order. Did not feel that nice. A lot of things were missing on the menu. Just letting us order what we want would be nice instead of pushing for something we don't want. About the food itself. The sushi were good not amazing but good. The sweet potatoes noodles were tasteless and a bit disappointing but good portion. Dessert was very good! Tea was good and big. I will still give it another try next time I am in town. It is overall good.

Great place, tasty meals. - Edit
Smell of roasted sesame seeds was a central theme of the aromas. We had some very tasty vegan sushi and Black God & Organic Spirulina noodle soups. Nutmeg drink and oatmylk coffee were good but veeery sweet 😅. Trying the tempeh next time.

Amazing food and great staff! - Edit
Very romantic feel (even for one), amazing food, and great staff! I ordered potato wedges and bachelor plate (chefs choice of variety of 6 sushi) and they suggested I order another item, which I did and then brought me two pieces of the final item I was interested in but hadn't offered (for free)! Would highly recommend.

Progressive vegan restaurant - Edit
Exquisite range of Japanese inspired vegan cuisine.
Read moreIt's evident that they make great efforts to find the balance between reconciling what is not traditionally a vegan friendly cuisine with a new fully plant based hybrid.
All the sushi, maki, temaki options are excellent, with a special mention to the vegan soyanaise.
The service is professional and attentive, and though it's true that there's often a tendency in many parts of South-east Asia to address customers in a gender specific way (i.e. Sir, even Sirs!), I don't believe it to be overbearing but rather a habit that perhaps people are slow to let go of).
Hoping to return soon to sample more of the goods on offer.
Fair pricing considering the efforts to innovative.
Pros: Innovative, Fully vegan

Delicious Sushi! - Edit
Very nice decor in the interior. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Read moreMy favourite roll was the Golden Age roll (lots of mango on top!) and the Wakame was probably the best I've ever had. The ingredients in everything were so fresh!
A bit pricy by KL standards but I thought it was still pretty reasonable.

Classy place, average food - Edit
The place feels quite upmarket. The menu looks exciting, but unfortunately the flavours were not great.
Read moreThe miso soup was really bland, i doubt they used any stock, they probably just mixed some miso with hot water & wakame.
I had the wedges recommend to me by the waiter. They came smothered in sweet mayonnaise, with barely, if any, salt. It was so sickly sweet i couldn't finish it. Most of the sushi also had this sweet mayonnaise all over it. If you don't like savoury food, and think everything should be sweet, then you will love the dessert wedges & sushi, however it made me feel sick.
I came back the next day and ordered a spaghetti dish... It was nothing like the menu described, and was lacking just about every listed ingredient, apart from the spaghetti.
After trying four different items, and finding them all severely lacking, i dont understand what everyone else sees in this place. Maybe they're blinded by the decor.
Pros: Classy place, lots of options
Cons: Bland, overly sweet

Best sushi ever - Edit
This is the best vegan sushi I’d ever eaten. We had ordered several rolls, and our favorite was the global warming roll (fried). We also ordered edamame fried rice, seaweed fried rice, fried udon, sweet potato noodles, blueberry chocolate cake and potato wedges. All 4 of us agreed that everything was incredibly good except for the sweet potato noodles (flavorless minus a vague sweet potato taste).
Read moreWe were asked about the food, and I told the waiter that the only dish that wasn’t very good was the sweet potato noodles. He asked why, I told him that it lacked flavor/herbs/spices. He asked me if I’d ever had sweet potato noodles before. I said yes. He then proceeded to tell me why I was wrong about not liking the dish.
Pros: Best sushi ever (global warming roll!), Such a good deal for all you can order , Service fast and attentive
Cons: Portions small except for noodle soup, Condescending staff with sexist undertones

Great tasting sushi - Edit
Tasty sushi, yummy noodles, great dessert - the tea came out at the end of our meal (I think they forgot it) and when they brought it out it was scalding hot so I had to spit it back into the cup. :-$ The portion sizes were quite small, but I suppose Japanese food is dainty and delicate. The flavours were fantastic, and we highly recommend the potato wedges! We wanted to order the tempeh but unfortunately they had sold out of it - bummer! But we chose three potato wedges instead so that made up for it.😄Service was friendly and approachable. All in all, a good experience.
Read morePros: Lots of delicious options, Reasonably priced
Cons: Extremely hot tea that came out late
