Attitude - Edit
Wasn’t good enough for all the attitude they served! Bad hospitality and the portions were small. It tasted okay but not to the level they act like their food tastes lol. Still happy to go since there aren’t many fully vegan restaurants in Kuala Lumpur and one of them already gave us food poisoning the night before.

Subpar food with a hefty price - Edit
Tempura was very bland, but the fried mushrooms and spongy tofu were decent. The jjajang rice was good but didn’t taste anything like jjajang it tasted like mushroom rice. The sushi’s I tried weren’t anything special other than the climate maki but they’re really small. It’s just not worth it for the price point at all because the food isn’t fantastic it’s honestly below average.

Great vegan Japanese food - Edit
Loved the food and vibe here, pretty pricey as others have said but have been craving vegan Japanese for a while now. Enjoyed the sushi platter option so we didn't have to choose individual options. Staff were lovely.

Not worth the price - Edit
I was really excited to try this place as I saw it was previously Supe sushi and I loved the Supe sushi in Georgetown.
Read moreThe menu looked very similar but unfortunately it wasn’t as nice. The sushi was great but the mushroom Jajangmyeon was a bit odd. (Admittedly I’d never had it before though so maybe it was what it was meant to taste like and I just didn’t like it…)
Overall I’d say it was nice but not worth the more expensive price.

Good, but comparatively pricy - Edit
I went all in when I visited and ordered many different kinds of sushi (didn’t take a picture of all). Taste was good but pieces were way smaller and prices quite a bit higher than in other places in the city. Was a good option to try once (especially for the non-standard vegan options), but would only go there again on a special occasion.

Incredible Japanese restaurant - Edit
I highly recommend visiting Kusa, they serve amazing food.
Read moreI came a couple of times and always tried different things. The Kusa Ramen was my favourite Ramen, there are 5 different levels of spicyness, don't go too high even if you usually like spicy food. It packs quite a punch, but the friendly waiters will help you find the correct level.
The amount of soup and Ramen is quite a lot, the other dishes are on the smaller end.
I also highly recommend the All in One mix of different Sushi / Maki.
Also, the spongy tofu / tempura / Kusa Tempeh with any of the different fried rices and salads are absolutely incredible as well.
Be prepared to pay a little bit more, especially if you "Create your own menu" with fried rice and the different small platters.(compared to restaurants in KL, interenationally speaking this is an absolute steal.)
But it's definitely well worth it.
The only dish that wasn't 100% to my personal liking was the Jjajiang Ramen.
The drinks, especially Kaffel and Kombucha are also great.
If you come in a bigger group, or even just as a couple on a weekend, be prepared to maybe wait for a little bit. It gets quite crowded at the peak times.
Even when it's fully packed, they serve everything quite quickly.
Pros: amazing japanese food, Unique and well balanced flavours, diverse menu

Got to love Japanese Vegan - Edit
Smart, modern looking venue, and the menu is like a picture book. Food was very nice, enjoying strawberry sushi, allin1 10 piece sushi set, edamame fried rice , and creme Brulee cheese cake. We had a late lunch, so not hungry enough for more from the delicious menu.

Veganes clean eating vom feinsten - Edit

Gorgeous Food - Edit
The presentation was immaculate! It was so pretty, it was a shame to eat it. The place is at walking distance from the Petronas. Took me just under 20 minutes. The restaurant looks posh but inside it is all friendly abd the waitresses were nice. The food was really good. I'd definitely recommend it!

Super yummy - Edit
Everything I had was super yummy, I regret I couldn’t go more.

Vegan sushi fun! - Edit
Exciting to see vegan sushi! Everything was great, but I kept thinking that the maki and hand rolls would be even more delicious with the addition of avocado. Not sure why this is not included in their sushi. We also got the fried tempeh and spicy ramen which were both tasty.

I love Japanese food and it's even better when you find a fully vegan one. There is a similar resturant (think it's part of a group), in George Town which was lovely too.

Food that excites the soul: Best vegan sushi in Malaysia - Edit
Kusa — and Sushi Kitchen, the more casually styled version of Kusa in Kota Damansara and Georgetown, Penang — are still the best vegan sushi and overall vegan Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. There just aren't enough options in Malaysia, sadly!
Read moreThat said, Kusa stands tall on its own with its tasty yet affordable menu and its refined atmosphere and service. The menu items are remarkably creative, homey, and health-conscious. It's food that excites yet nourishes the body and soul.
My favourites are the noodle soups (the Red Sea or now called Kusa Ramen is a must-try; the miso-based broths are reliable go-to's) and the mango sushi. The 7 Spices maki is another great staple.
Pros: Tasty and creative, yet healthy, Affordable, big portions; great value for money, Pleasant, refined atmosphere and service
Cons: Not the most flexible or predictable opening hours, Not really gourmet cooking as design suggests

Great food… - Edit
I was so looking forward to visiting on my 30th Birthday after seeing all the reviews (so maybe I had set my expectations too high). The food was great, the edamame rice was so flavourful and Inari Nigiri is my favourite food and that was great too.
Read moreThey forgot one of our dishes which is fine because mistakes happen but I feel like it snowballed slightly from there. We mentioned that we were waiting for some noodles and were told there was no record of us ordering it which made me feel like it was my fault until the person who took our order came over and apologised and said he didn’t put the order through.
There was no dessert left which was ok because after the delay with the missing food we were ready to leave as we had other plans that evening that we had to get to. After paying, before we even had time to put the credit card away, we were told that they had other customers waiting so they needed our table. They were polite and I understand that it was starting to get busy but we would have left half an hour ago if they hadn’t forgotten some of our food and we also had places to be. We couldn’t have been faster.
Would give it 5 stars if we’d had a better experience but honestly when I think about the restaurant I just get sad because it was a bad end to my birthday.

Interesting fusion dishes - Edit
We were excited to go through their beautifully presented menu with many inventive dishes having a Japanese theme. We ordered sushi, some noodles and some other dishes. It was chaotic when we arrived because the restaurant was full to capacity which we took as a good sign.
Read moreStaff were friendly and helpful but so busy they forgot some of the things we ordered, so we were still waiting for and reordering dishes by the time we had finished everything else. Writing down orders would improve service.
The dishes were generally well presented and enjoyable if somewhat bland, I particularly enjoyed their global warming sushi. Overall the sushi dishes I tried were all well prepared except for the cucumber which was poorly wrapped, but there’s definite something to surprise and suit all tastes.
The kitsune udon soup was delicious, whereas the spicy udon bowl was uninspiring. Potato wedges were disappointing, the portion small and covered in mayonnaise which ought to be served in a separate dish. Many of our dishes seemed to be decorated with the mayonnaise which seemed a bit repetitive and not fun for those who don’t like added dressings. The mayonnaise was in any case bland.
The mushroom tempura was excellent, one of the best tempuras I’ve had. We tried a couple of deserts, the portions were appropriately modest and not overly sweet so made a nice addition to the end of the meal, but they were not very flavoursome. The tiramisu is really delicious.
The restaurant has a fairly cosy and relaxing atmosphere so is great for a quiet evening meal. Some of the dishes may delight and others can be uninspiring, so it’s well worth ordering a variety of options. You might have to visit a few times to find the best dishes.
