Serves meat, vegan options available. Sushi bar and robata. Upscale restaurant serving sushi, Japanese appetisers, yakitori skewers. Very accommodating to vegans with some vegan options clearly marked. Some options suitable for vegans aren't marked but the staff can help point these out. Find vegan maki including a vegan maki platter, edamame, cauliflower katsu, teriyaki tofu, yasai roll (veg spring roll), tempura veg. Also has a vegan tasting menu. Will also swap out the soy sauce to a fully vegan, gluten-free tamari instead. Open Mon-Thu 17:30-22:00, Fri-Sat 17:30-23:00, Sun 17:30-22:00.

Delicious, fresh Japanese in Plymouth - Edit
I went to Kuku on my own while away for work. There were lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians, the menu clearly labelled (at least with vegetarian dishes). I went for the cauliflower katsu (side portion, which was very generous), a side of rice and the spicy mushroom maki. It was all so good and delivered with friendly service. The house raspberry kombucha topped off a great meal.

So good!! - Edit
Great sushi, tastes like maki should! Inventive flavours and beautifully presented. We had the vegan platter, spicy mushroom roll and katsu cauliflower - all fantastic! Kuku kulada very nice also if you're partial to piñacolada.

Vegan options - delicious - Edit
Spicy mushroom maki was beyond tasty! I could have eaten that 3 times over. Then the tofu terriaki, mmmm! Very sweet (maybe overly for me), the tofu was silken, which isn't my favourite, but would 10000% go again - their vegan menu (sharer) looked amazing too! Will be going back again soon!

Excellent - Edit
Great tasting vegan options, for both rolls and "mains". Many of the vegetarian options can be vegan if you ask, and they'll bring you vegan soy sauce

A bit on the pricey side but all in, I'd say it's worth it
Would give 5 stars but that is reserved for exclusively vegan restaurants
Pros: Good range of vegan options, Great decor
Cons: Hot inside in summer!

Vegans well catered for in buzzy sushi and Robata restaurant - Edit
Have been here a few times now and loved it every time. Not wishing to put a downer on Plymouth but I was surprised at how upmarket this restaurant was when visiting for the first time. But it's classy without being stuffy. Children are certainly welcome and I've seen lots of families here as well as couples on dates.
Read moreThere are vegan options clearly marked on the menu but some that isn't – it's worth asking the staff to point out what else is ok to order.
Our usual order now is the vegan maki platter followed by teriyaki tofu with tempura veg and cauliflower katsu. The cauliflower katsu is amazing – it's fried to perfection and the curry sauce that comes with it is the best Japanese curry sauce I've ever had.
The service is really friendly while still being professional. I liked that they noticed when we ordered the vegan options and then swapped out the enriched soy sauce on the table for a vegan-friendly tamari sauce instead.
Good selection of sake. Be aware that the price of the meal goes up substantially if you order sake and cocktails, but they are very good quality.
Pros: Excellent, attentive service, Some vegan options clearly marked, Excellent standard of cooking
Cons: No non-dairy milk for coffee, Limited selection of vegan dessert, Some vegan options not clearly marked
