Hidden gem vegan backstreet cafe

Almost gave up trying to find it, but kept seeing signs so knew we were close. It’s around the corner from where Google landed us. It might show as “Free space cafe”. See pics. It’s a cute and cozy home based cafe that also sells various Okinawan jewelry and nicnaks. It’s had a wonderful character and the owner made me feel welcome and glad to be there, great place just for a coffee or drink as well as for food.

The vegan choices included Okinawan Taco Rice (which I had), a vegan sandwich, and a hummus and avocado bagel with vegan egg. I ordered “to go” and was amazed by the American size portion. The Tako Rice was mostly a Japanese white rice base with a very flavorful topping of ground soy protein, tomato, veggies and all encased by lettuce. It was delicious and I was surprised when I soon had finished the whole bowl. I’m personally no fan of fake meat, but this was very tasty and not off-putting.

The owner was the sole server, andy there are signs showing their membership of the Japanese Vegan Society.

Pros: Very cute cafe and welcoming owner, Mostly vegan lunch choices, Portion size was generously filling.

Cons: Slightly hard to find, but well worth it, Owner speaks limited English - but good enough!

Hidden place

Cute cafe, hidden in a very small side street around the pottery village in Yomitan. I got the avocado&hummus toast on sourdough with the daily kabocha soup. Bread was also very nice. I also liked the sides: carrot rape and okara-hijiki salad. Their espresso tonic is amazing. The whole set (toast, soup, drink) was only 1100!
The staff was very nice, I had to wait a bit longer (~40ish minutes), so the guy came out to apologise and gave me a free cinnamon roll!

Pros: Nice vibe, Incredibly friendly staff, Cheap

Cons: Limited parking, hard to find, Waiting can be long
