Delicious food, very attentive staff - Edit

I love the food. There is loads of choice so a great place to go with friends and share (my omni friends were happy to eat veggie as it was so yummy!).

The staff were very aware of vegetarianism, veganism and oriental diets and the English menu was very clear too.

If I could give five stars I would.

Pros: Lots of choice , Delicious food , Great staff

Vegan menu at Taiwanese Restaurant in Chinatown - Edit

Copy 好記園 or “Japan, 〒231-0023 Kanagawa-ken, Yokohama-shi, Naka-ku, Yamashitachō, 106” into googlemaps. Or search Kokien in tripadvisor and copy the local name into googlemaps. I’ve added a picture of the storefront to the photos.

They have a lot of vegan options in a separate section at the back of the menu. They have veg and tofu dishes, fake meat dishes, noodle soups, fried rice, fried noodles and dim sum. They understand the concept of vegan because they checked if it was OK to put egg in my fried rice.

We shared the mapo tofu and fried mushroom with veg. Both were good but the sauce the mushrooms were in was a bit sweet and the mapo tofu wasn’t that spicy. The ‘XO’ fried rice was quite satisfying but I wasn’t keen on the fake shrimps. Overall food was good but i’d try one of the noodle soups next time.

A worth-the-visit place. - Edit

food is very tasty especially their fried rice dishes, also you gotta tell them to not use egg if you're vegan. would definitely come back here

Fantastic food with LOTS of vegan options - Edit

No visit to Chinatown is complete without a meal at Kokien. They have a huge selection of vegan options, and the food is reasonable and delicious. Super friendly staff, too. Try the XO fried rice and the soup with dumplings in
it. English spoken.

Just one caveat-- my husband saw the cook leave the restroom and return to the kitchen without washing his hands. Maybe he washed them in the kitchen...? Still, I wish I hadn't heard that...

Pros: Staff are so warm and friendly, Fantastic food with lots of options

Good number of choices available - Edit

I had the dried bean curd, spicy Taiwanese noodles and gyoza. The dried bean curd was excellent. I liked the soup base of the spicy Taiwanese noodles but the noodles themselves were just okay, not bad. The gyoza was okay but I'd like to try the vegan egg rolls next time.

They have a very large amount of choices compared to most other vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Japan so I'd like to go back to try more things.

The kitchen was semi-open so that made me feel confident about the cleanliness of the place.

Edit: I went back and had the cucumbers, spring rolls and mochi daikon. Everything was excellent! Definitely spring rolls over gyoza at this place.

The prices are really reasonable too.

Best meal in Yokohama - possibly Japan so far - Edit

This restaurant really impressed me, especially as we had just come from walking out of Peking Hanten (other Happy Cow suggestion) as it was so overpriced and service was very cold. Anyway, we arrived just as it opened for the evening and the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly (also immediately identified us as vegetarians haha)

Food was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in Japan and I’ve been here for four months! There are a huge selection of vegetarian/vegan dishes at the back of the menu, felt like I was missing out by only sharing a couple with my boyfriend! We had the spicy tofu and spicy noodles, neither of which were too hot and both of which I highly recommend. Gyoza also yummy.

Definitely recommend if you’re in Yokohama!

Pros: Wide variety of dishes, Attentive service, Delicious and not too expensive
