Warm welcome!

Having travelled across Munich in VERY cold weather our expectations were high and Kopfeck didn't disappoint us. We were warmly welcomed and the waitress offered to explain any menu items or drink choices. The menu had a good selection of items, many with a traditional German twist. Having been to Germay before and surviving on bread and eggs I was thrilled to see a pure vegetarian and vegan place. We both ordered the currywurst plate which was good value and tasted good, if slightly salty. The food was very nicely presented and from what we could see of other diners all of the dishes looked good. The atomosphere was pleasant and clean. Worth a visit.

Pros: Everything is vegetarian or vegan, Good value food for Munich, Menu choices

Cons: outside of city centre

This is what I'm talking about...

Made a rookie mistake going to PrinzMyshkin first, and came here on our second night in Munich. We were so mad we didn't get to come here both nights. First, I don't know why so many people are making a big deal about it being a bar. Lots of restaurants are bars. This one is spacious, not tatty. We had a super cool server, who chatted with us in English.

We shared the CurryWurst, which was good--for CurryWurst. But OK, we had to try it after two weeks in Germany. Also got this huge plate of soy gyro meat, shnitzel and some steak-like thing. I'm not into eating fake meat all the time, but after many days of salads, soy yogurt etc, it was fun to chow down. The plate rocked. And both plates came with the best fries ever. Good beer, good prices. Do not miss it.

Pros: Vegan German stuff, Prices, Staff

Great

Lovely punk rock pub with good pub food. Large servings. Cheap. A few tables outside for sunny days. Staff had excellent English and English menus.

Score!

I am visiting Germany and when I went to spend the day in Munich, a visit to Kopfeck is the ONE thing I had planned. It didn't let me down. The service was fantastic. The guy who helped us read the menu was friendly and helpful... and cute.
I ordered the schnitzel plate and my friend had currywurst. Both dishes were fantastic. I loved the outdoor seating... all the people sitting around us were friendly too. The entire experience was perfect and I know I need to hit up Kopfeck again before I go back to the states. Danke!!

Pros: tasty german food, friendly service, great atmosphere

Evening meal at Kopfecks

This bar which serves food is easy to find and friendly. We had the currywhurts and the soya steak with salad. Both were good value with nice big portions. The menu choice was great, clearly labelling all the vegan choices (lots) and the staff can translate it for you. I would go again and was very impressed.

Pros: great vegan choice, good prices, delightfully friendly staff

Veg*n food with a German flavour

Having seen from their website that they stayed open late, we went along to this place after the opera, still wearing our glad rags.

They very sweetly fixed us up with a couple of (very generous) plates of currywurst and chips, even though we were probably a couple of hours late for the main food service and a decade or three outside their target demographic - and definitely not dressed right!

More than some of the other veggie places we went to in Munich this one has a German-style food on the menu, not just the currywurst but one or two other dishes as well, along with international dishes.

From a rather brief visit I'd say it's more of a pub with food than a restaurant, but none the worse for that. A lot of the food on the menu is vegan, and the prices are very reasonable.

Pros: Friendly and accommodating, Has German dishes, veganised, Cheap

Great food, great vibe

Just a 15 minute walk from the Viktualienmarkt or the Deutsches Museum, this cafe/bar serves amazingly good and uncomplicated vegetarian and vegan food. Fresh salads, burgers, veggie wurst and more in huge portions. Great music as well. Such reasonable prices, too. I got the most expensive thing on the menu and it was only 13 euros.

I went on a Sunday evening and there were reserved signs on most of the tables so the place continues to be popular. Go early in the evening to ensure a table!

Pros: lots of vegan options, great music, cafe bar vibe

Cons: a little out of the way, gets crowded

Vegan friendly and good value

Plenty of vegan options, good value, relaxed atmosphere. I think it was about 7 euro for a filling meal of a delicious burger with pomme frites and salad.

Pros: Vegan friendly, Tasty and good value, nice service and atmosphere

Love this place! Yummy food and relaxed atmosphere

My husband and I have been in Munich for 3 days and this is by far the best meal we have had. We had what I think was the "grill plate" another reviewer mentioned, with 3 different fake meats (I think 2 tofu-based and 1-wheat meat) which came with a large, tasty salad and french fries. We also had the currywurst with fries. These came with 3 sauces- ketchup, tzaziki, and a sweet spicy sauce. We loved everything, even though the currywurst and one of the fake meats were a bit salty.

We also had some beer on tap and a Harvey Wallbanger- both were yummy. The server was friendly and chatted with us a bit in English, and answered all our questions. However, he was the only server/bartender in the whole place, so he could get a little busy. They do serve a Vegan White Russian, but were out of the vegan cream that day (a Monday) so I couldn't get one.

It is a very bar-like atmosphere, but the large tables make it a little more restaurant-like. They play classic rock and have rock and punk posters on the wall. The place is very clean and has a pleasant atmosphere- it isn't an agro vibe at all, but a friendly, low key kind of feel.

We had a great dining experience all around and will definitely be back before we leave Munich. the one big drawback- they appear to open only for dinner (I believe at 5pm) and are closed Sundays. Also, it would be nice to get a side of veggies instead of french fries because when you'r ein Germany you already eat a lot of fried potatoes if you're veg*n.

Pros: food, drinks, atmosphere/service

Cons: only open for dinner, closed Sunday, only french fries for sides

Hi Acidkitty, I enjoyed reading your review. The vegetarian equivalents of famous German dishes sound pretty good to me.

Awesome Bar with great music & rock'n vegan food!

I WISH we had a place as cool as this back in Los Angeles. You can get a Vegan White Russian (but request it in a cup instead of a martini glass!) The Vegan Burger is huge and amazing, its some kind of grain combo that is full of flavor & comes with a nice salad and tons of fries. I think 90% of the menu is vegan, the word is everywhere. Go for the local draft beer, its amazing! They have Vegan Gyros / Chili / Vegan Steak / Soup / Weekly specials, really a fantastic selection. Coolest place for late night eats in Munich by far! I believe the kitchen shuts down at 11 but check their site with Google Translate to be certain of times, you can also see the menu there, too! Friendly English speaking bar tender, too. Just go in and pick a good table and order a beer and peruse the menu and I'm sure you'll be happy with everything!

Pros: music, vegan burger, atmosphere / bar

A Bar with Food

We were pretty excited about this place but arrived at a bar-- cigarette machine at the front door, dark inside, low tables, etc. Could be good food, but we were looking for a restaurant. People seemed nice, but ambience was, well, it's a bar.
Hate to give it a rating, since we didn't try the food, but wish that we had known more about the atmosphere before going.

fantastic vegan food and great atmosphere

I went to Kopfeck for the two days I was in Munich. It was really great food, along with a social, hip atmosphere.

The first time I had an amazing soup (that could have stood on its own), along with the best vegan burger I have ever had (I don't know how they did it). The portions where fairly large, by european standards (I come from Portland, where vegan food portions are pretty huge). I wouldn't suggest ordering two things, if you aren't planning on taking some home.

On the second day, I tried a stir-fry with tofu. Though not as good as my veganburger, it was a perfect companion to the local beer on tap.

If you are ever in Munich, go here.

Pros: easy walk from the metro, social, hip atmosphere, friendly staff

Youthful Undertones

This place was packed on the last Sunday in October 2008, mainly with a young vibrant and friendly crowd. The food was simply superb, I'd say gourmet pub grub, rather like UK gastro pubs. My seitan steak and chips was amazing and the pasta dish my dining partner had was perfect. Washed down with Munich bier, this was a super experience. Don't expect a quiet dining event, be prepared for lots of music, chat and smoke. A very arty and avant garde establishment

Pros: great crowd, super food, beer

Cons: smokey at night

Good vibes and good food

I like this place! I even went during the game between Germany and Turkey so things were hot and noisy and crazy but it was still a good experience. The portions are good for what you pay, too... I couldn't force myself to finish my ratatouille with seitan steak even though it was, and remains, the best vegan food I've tasted in Europe.

Pros: delicious food, good value, menu labels vegan dishes

Great food, drinks and alternative music

This bar offers an all vegetarian menu and most dishes are also available as vegan version or 100% vegan anyway. Great place to have some good food, listen to music and stay for a couple of drinks afterwards. Kopfeck has an alternative feel which is also reflected in the music. Open Mo-Thu + Sun: 11:00 to 01:00am, Fr + Sa: 11:00 bis 03:00am. Call to check food serving times.

Pros: Good selection of food and drinks, Friendly staff, Independent Business
