Serves meat, vegan options available. Comedor serving inexpensive typical Guatemalan/Central American breakfast and lunch. Has a vegan plate and most items can easily be veganized. Offers pupusas, sandwiches and burritos. Usually serves a daily special and staff is open to special wishes - just ask. Also sells different local food products. The comedor is part of an NGO working to combat malnutrition and poverty in Guatemala and profits from the comedor are used to support this type of work. The Konojel Community Center also hosts regular fundraising events that are advertised in the comedor. NOTE: Reported July 2022 to serve meat. Open Mon-Sat 10:00am-4:00pm. Closed Sun.

Great concept, giving back to the community - Edit
Konojel has dishes of the day that come with a small side salad and a drink for 45 gtq. It's nice to support the restaurant supporting the community. The food is straight forward, filling, nourishing. All dishes of the day are de facto veg but with the option to add meat.

I really enjoyed eating here. It is extremely good value - best priced in the area I think. The vegan set-meal is fairly basic rice, beans, tortillas, salad, and drink (lightly sugared) and costs 20Q ($2.50). I had the set menu and that was very good - some kind of curry thing with your rice, beans etc...and that was 30Q ($3.50). It is a community centre so has a nice ethos about it. It is simple but good food and I would recommend.

Lots of veggie places in San Marcos are filled with 'rich hippies'. Konojel is different. It has a local vibe, the kitchen is completely open so you can chat with the local ladies working there, the food is simple, delicious and cheap, no frills.
