Evenings only for good vegan options. - Edit
This place is very much a classic Balkan restaurant specialising in dead meat and fish but it has the remarkable quality of having a vegan friendly chef in the evenings. Go there during the day and you will get side portion options, better than nothing but not worth making the trip across town for.

Lovely, simple food. Grill veg is a bit too oily for my taste but seasonal salad, country potatoes and polenta with veg are great! The waiter is vegetarian and is very friendly and knows what vegan food is. If you are very hungry, definitely get a side of potatoes and a salad.

The waiter was vegetarian himself and could confirm that the dishes we took were 100% vegan. Very kind guy with nice conversation about veganism!

Filling and away from the crowds - Edit
There are four vegan entrees like other reviews state. I was confused at first because only two of them had a V next to them, but the owner assured us they had no butter or milk or egg, chicken stock, etc. Got the veggies and polenta and the penne. The veggie stew with the polenta was good, but I highly recommend a side of fries to throw in there, not the healthiest but it was great. Owner was very nice.

Few Vegan Choices But Salty - Edit
The penne arrabiata was decent. I enjoyed the spiciness in particular, but the food as a whole was too salty. Otherwise the service was good, and I was happy to have an option in the relative vegan-desert of Zadar.

Delicious vegan and vegetarian meals - Edit
We went here for early 5pm dinner on the last day of our holiday, after finding it listed on the Happy Cow website.
Read moreThere is a separate vegan and vegetarian section on the menu, which had I think, 4 choices (all vegan), which is good compared to most places we found in Croatia which had no vegan options.
The 11 year old had tomato soup, which he said was delicious. The 9 year old had penne arabiata, which he enjoyed and did taste lovely. I had polenta with a ratatouille type dish with it, with a great taste and mediterranean vegetables. My partner had roasted vegetables with a side of wedges. Everything was so tasty and well presented. The kids finished off with chocolate pancakes (not vegan), which were huge!
The interior is lovely, with nicely set out tables, old photos of Zadar on the wall, and it is an old building with nice stonework and wooden beams. Waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable about the food and great service. There is a nice eating area outside as well. Food was very reasonably priced at 333 Kuna for a meal for 4, including sides of salad and wedges, 2 desserts, 2 beers and 2 soft drinks. Veggie meals are only 65 kuna each.
We would definitely go here again.

Grateful for the vegan options! - Edit
As stated in another review, this restaurant offered a pasta, polenta, vegetables, and risotto, all labeled vegan. After striking out with many of the other listed restaurants and stores (closed for the off-season, I suppose,) we had great service here, and the food was delicious. Thanks!

Yummy arrabiata! - Edit
We've had very few vegan options since arriving in Croatia and were thrilled to find somewhere who understood what vegan meant and also had delicious food! The staff were friendly and the food delicious! Also, really child friendly - they suggested that they bring the kids food first, this is always appreciated when you've got starving grumpy kids 😃. Thank you Konoba Bonaca 😘

Vegan food and the nicest staff - Edit
Went here with my 15 friends (all non-vegan except me) after a swimming competition in Zadar. The staff was super friendly and extremely efficient in accommodating us, despite other large parties having reserved tables at the restaurant. The staff was really nice and service minded (not always a given I have found here in Croatia), fully aware of what vegan means and explained what could be made vegan on the menu. Had the vegan pasta, great tasting - had been even better with some vegan protein though... By far the best meal I have had in Croatia during this stay, so far.

This place deserves 5 stars. Way more food and options than we could eat in one meal, and all of it delicious. Head waiter said he used to work cruise line with this restaurant’s owner and they were fully aware of all special diets and committed to a set-up where they could easily accommodate. Very friendly staff. We had all the vegan options, including rice and potatoes. We also tried the Croatian wine. Picked that over the Cab and Merlot because, we’ll, we’re in Croatia. It’s okay, and glad we tried it, but wouldn’t buy it normally.

Nice place - Edit
Not the best looking restaurant, but the staff was very friendly and nice. We had a nice chit-chat, and the atmosphere was really good. They have several vegan & vegetarian options, I've ordered vegan risotto and it was very good, and the portion was generous. The food maybe isn't the most creative in the world, but they know what vegan/vetegarian means, and this is a big +! :) I recommend this place to everyone who is coming to Zadar, because the only vegan restaurant work's only during the summer months, and I think that in Bonaca you will have a proper meal and good service.

The veggie risotto and the grilled veggies (zucchini, egg plant ,paprika and tomatoes) were great in taste but by itself a bit boring. When you order both and mix the dishes it makes a very nice meal. The bread is very tasty as well and the staff really friendly.

Knowledgeable owner + great food - Edit
When we sat down at Konoba Bonaca, we really didn't know what to expect. We went there solely based on Happy Cow reviews, and we were actually pleasantly surprised. The owner was indeed knowledgeable about vegan food, and immediately suggested two dishes, the pasta and the risotto, plus salad and garden potatoes. The ambiance was really nice, with wooden benches and tables, and flowers in abundance. And the food really was great! The pasta was kind of spicy (really spicy actually) but with great taste. Everything else was satisfying and delicious, albeit simple.

four vegan options! - Edit
Zadar is certainly lacking in vegan food options but this little spot about 5 minutes walk from the Sea Organ/Greetings to the sun is great. Four options: risotto, spaghetti, grilled vegetables and one other. The food was tasty and the free bread was delicious. Above all, the service was fantastic. The owner/server was attentive and very helpful. He knew what vegan was and was super lovely. We definitely recommend this place.
