Food court with few options

Had to request removing meat at the thai places. Ramen place had nothing.

Pros: Some places could do vegan if requested

Cons: Most places no vegan option. , Nothing clearly labelled

No reservations required!

Many people make reservations in Nozawa to find good food... then there are people like me, really last-minute and not prepared for something like that.

Kongo is a steel factory converted into a casual night-market (food court style), where you grab a seat where you can. The ground floor has different food providers along the perimeter, while the centre and upstairs has heaps of seating.

I noticed a few options of veg udon/ramen/noodle dishes, plus fried tofu/mushroom versions of kaarage. I ended up getting the chickpea + tofu rendang; basically a curry on rice, with a small side salad. Was pretty good with lots of tofu chunks, so felt somewhat healthy on the protein side😉

My companion grabbed oden and fried tofu from another shop, the oden came bubbling on a small burner.

It would be nice to have some healthier options but you take what you can get in resort towns!

Quite a lively environment and good for people that can't agree on what to eat =)
Prices were typical of Nozawa, hovering around >¥1000 for a meal. Quite easy to get just a snack and drinks, if that's what you're up for. Also a piano for impromptu jams, if you please.
