Too much hype? - Edit
The place is fine but I think the 5 star reviews and hype are a little overrated. We ate at several places that were superior in Lisbon. The night we were there, the servers forgot a wine order for a table on one side and they forgot the sauce for my dish until I requested a second time. They are one of the only vegan restaurants that asks for an additional tip above the bill. Oh, and the place is very noisy. It was Ok but , by far, not the best in town.

Dear Scott,
Read moreThank you for your feedback.
We are sorry to hear that your experience at Kong didn’t live up to your expectations. The staff has been informed and we will try to do a better job next time.
Regarding your comments about tips, we would like to clarify that our policy is to never ask for tips let alone pressure in any way our clients to leave tips. We do have an option on our TPAs if someone wants to tip. One of the reasons we introduced this option is that some clients wanted to leave a tip when paying with card but were unsure whether this money would go to the bussiness or to staff. In this way we feel it’s more clear.
We are sorry that you felt pressured to tip as this is definitely not the intention. We would like to ask you if you felt that because there was that option or because the staff pressured you in any other way. This feedback would be important for us to improve future customer experience.
Thank you.

Tasty and beautiful - Edit
I ate the croquettes and the salmon. The croquettes are expensive for their quantity but they are tasty. The salmon plate was beautiful and delicious, the tofu really tasted a bit like sea, and the spinach and blue sauce were really good. The service was fast (i came at lunch around 2 tho) and the restaurant is spacious. I'd come back!

Delicious and beautifully presented food - Edit
All the dishes were a flavor bomb. The tofu 'salmon' dish is beautifully presented, as is the pistachio dessert topped with gold leaf. That dessert was very, very small and arguably overpriced for what it was, but so good!

Absolutely delicious - Edit
Gorgeous restaurant. I had the Bitoque, the “cod” with cream, and the Mediterranean “salmon.” Out of those, I would say the one you can’t miss is the Mediterranean. It’s beautiful. If you can go with multiple people and share plates, that would be ideal!

Best vegan restaurant in Lisbon !! - Edit
You must visit Kongs if you’re visiting Lisbon .., the food is absolutely stunning !! There is such a good selection , but the vegan steak and fried egg is by all means a must try !! Great ambience, friendly staff, great location , good price ! We went on a Sunday (they’re open on Sundays despite description currently saying otherwise)…

Bland, bland, bland - Edit
We had the cod in cream sauce, the salmon, the meatballs, and the soup. The soup tasted like watery gravy, no real flavor to speak of. The cod had a comforting texture but also no flavor, just soft tofu and boiled potatoes. It came with an inexplicably dry, undressed salad of which about half was raw shredded onion. The salmon, finally, had some acidity in its sesame seed crust, but the potato pavé it came with was dry and bland despite the shreds of cheese baked on top. It also had a bright blue sauce which was visually striking but tasted, again, like nothing. The meatballs were pretty good, and their mayonnaise sauce did have some lemon juice.

Excellent traditional Portuguese food - Edit
What a pleasure to find a vegan restaurant offering some traditional cuisine!
Read moreI couldn't have anything but the "bacalhau com natas" and it was just delicious!
I highly recommend tasting the "croquetes" as a starter. If I wasn't sure the place wasn't fully vegan I would have thought they'd served me a starter with meat haha. The taste was really amazing and similar to the traditional one with alheira.
The dessert was a must as well.

Loss of quality - Edit
I've been coming to this restaurant since it was located at Rua do Crucifixo. It was exciting back then to have dishes like "fish" with rice bean, although the old place was small. Lately I've noticed the restaurant rebrand itself as a "avant-garde" experience, with soup poured into the plate, something like "Salt Bae". The portions are smaller, but the price has not decreased. On my last visit I had the cod with cream ("Bacalhau com natas"). I can tell you it tasted nothing like the Portuguese dish that I remember from my omnivore days. It's a pitty that the restaurant has suffered from touristification and gentifrication.

SHRINKFLATION WARNING - Edit
🚨⚠️ SHRINKFLATION WARNING!! 🚨⚠️
Read moreThis place is engaging in the practice of both INCREASING PRICE, while REDUCING PORTIONS. Look at the photo and the URLs to compare! Price per piece used to be 1.63€ with the large croquettes, and is now 1.96€ for the tiny ones.
A couple years ago the croquettes were 4.90€. Now they are 5.90€ and noticeably smaller. I used to visit this place quite frequently in the past, even at the old location, but I don't live in Portugal anymore. I was absolutely surprised when I went recently and ordered the croquettes - they were MORE EXPENSIVE and SO MUCH SMALLER. I asked the waitress about it, and I was assured the price had decreased accordingly, which WOULD be fair.
However, when I looked at the reviews and saw the former menu price (HAD lower price and WERE bigger portions) I was shocked. I told the waitress that I was disappointed by the lie and the change and she turned her back on me without a word. I was flabbergasted - not only is this place engaging in shrinkflation, but the lie and rudeness if asked about it was the cherry on top.
This unfriendly practice made me visit this place for the last time - used to visit a lot but they don’t deserve it anymore.

Dear Guilherme,
Read moreWe would like to thank you for your feedback. It led us to speak with the team to reinforce our values: our guests’ experience is our main focus, and our goal is that everyone who visits us leaves the restaurant happier than when they arrived.
We understand your frustration and apologize for not having handled the situation in the best possible way, nor for having offered a solution at the time of the incident, as is our usual standard.
Our portion sizes and prices are reviewed and adjusted periodically, with several objectives in mind: minimizing waste; ensuring that a complete meal (starter, main course, and dessert) is enough to satisfy someone with a good appetite; offering competitive prices (usually lower) compared to the competition; and maintaining a sustainable business.
If we notice that a dish receives unanimously positive feedback but people consistently leave part of it uneaten (which then goes to waste), we adjust the portion size downward. Likewise, if we receive repeated feedback that a portion is too small, we adjust it upward.
In the specific case of the croquettes, one of the following scenarios was frequent: 1) guests who ordered the croquettes did not eat the full portion in order to keep their appetite for the rest of the meal; 2) guests ate the full portion but were then unable to finish the main course and were too full to try a dessert. For this reason, we decided to reduce the portion size. In other cases, such as the soup, the petit gâteau, the cheesecake, and all scoops of ice cream, the portion size were recently increased, using the same criteria.

A vegan fine dining experience - Edit
Excellent service from the get-go - this place is run with high expectations from their staff to deliver excellent service and food - and at such an affordable price! The menu is incredibly inventive, food served is of such a high quality. We had the cheeseboard to start and WOW we have never tasted vegan cheese like it! Charlie had the seitan ribs for main which were full of flavour and the perfect texture / Chelsey had the seitan steak and egg (egg was another WOW moment!). Dessert was a top favourite for Chelsey who had the pistachio gateau - and we’ll be dreaming of that for years to come!! A MUST-VISIT for vegans in Lisbon (one of the reasons we booked our trip!!)
