great cozy spot

Entirely vegan and unpretentious. I've eaten entirely too much here 3 days in a row. Lots of different entree options. Buffett style.

Pros: entirely vegan no need to worry

Converted me to veganism

I was already having vegan thoughts long before coming here, but this fantastic buffet made me realise that I could make the switch and not lose anything! Always a wonderful range of meals and a few surprises too.

Shout out for the beetroot and coconut soup

Pros: You will eat 3 courses and then go back for more!, Tasty beer selection

Great food for everyone

I love the food, it's always different and there's so much to choose from. I always over-eat there. Golden tip: skip the soup, then you have more room for the food.

The desserts are not really for me there: there's a lot of (dried) fruit and strange flavours. But I guess that's a personal opinion .

Also a great place to go with non-vegetarians, children, groups,...

Pros: Varied and tasty food, All-you-can-eat, Great place to take non-vegetarians or children

Cons: The toilets are outside (very cold in winter)

Great find

Full all you can eat vegan buffet at modest price in a relaxed atmosphere. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was crowded, it had a homely neighborhood feel with families. Buffet had soup, hot options, salads, desert option and fruit.

amazing food and tons of it

They provided more than enough. The lemon and coconut cake were great. Looking forward to the chocolate cake and we will be eating there again tomorrow.

Good food

Glad they’re open on Sundays, when many other eateries are closed. (They’re closed Saturdays and Mondays.) Cash only! When I arrived about noon on Sunday (they open at 11:45 a.m.) all the tables were reserved, but they seated me at one. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet, which usually isn’t a good deal for me who can’t eat a lot in one sitting. I ate enough for me but was surprised at the rather high cost. I had a bottle of witbier, which I think was €3.50, a bowl of soup, a plate of warm food, a small plate of salad and slice of cake, and the bill was €20.50 (CAD 32). I figured that would cover a tip, so didn’t leave one (you bus your own table). (Belgium is not a cheap place to eat.) All of the food was good. All the hot food was orange/beige the day I was there: really good carrot chips, carrot/green bean stew (okay, there was green in this dish), white rice, rice and squash, a chickpea dish, mini spring rolls and potatoes au gratin. Salad bar included sauerkraut, pickles, olives, a nice salad dressing and a tasty tapenade-like spread.

Pros: tasty, home-cooked food

Cons: accepts cash only

nice variety

Cosy restaurant and diverse customers. Very lovely to see vegan food being so widely appreciated.
The food itself was delicious and had a great variety of cold, warm and sweet dishes. The price is ok, but you should go hungry as it does not pay off to have just one and a half plate plus a desert for what you are paying. If you can eat more it's totally worth it!
Will love to come by again!

Pros: hot and cold foods, great desert , fruits available

Vegan all you can eat (incl. the pricetag)

We enjoyed the all you can eat buffet. When you are not used to eat much, the price you pay for the buffet will be experienced as expensive and you might behave like me to try to get as much as possible out of it and eat to much.

What I ate, was new, delicious and was changing during the evening. Not a very healthy offer (a lot of fat), but nice.

Asking for water from the tap, was also not done. I could only get it when ordering something else to drink. So I (overpaid) the water and didn't experience the interactions with the staff as pleasing. That might be circumstantial.

The restaurant was in my experience 'a nice to been there, but not to return again'.

Pros: Nice, all vegan, food

Cons: not so cheap, not so healthy

good when you're very hungry

Cozy atmosphere and (for Belgium) reasonably priced vegan buffet - we paid 17€. The food was nice and there were fruits and vegan cake for desert. However most dishes were rather greasy

Cons: greasy, there wasn't one really 'super tasty' dish (the fo

Great vegan restaurant

One of my favorite restaurants in Gent! The buffet is completely vegan and is always different (there is no fixed menu). Soup, fruit and dessert are included in the price. A lot of the drinks are bio. In the weekends, it's often quite busy so make sure you make a reservation of come early.

Lovely vegan restaurant.

It's a nice location in the centre of Leuven, nice staff and good food.

It is a buffet (soup, main cold, main hot and desserts), all you can eat for a flat rate price and it's all vegan.

So it's great to taste little portions of all these options and just savor.

It is also ideal for non-vegans to get a good tasting experience and being seduced.

They also have nice tasty juices and of course nice choices of desserts, now attention, to leave some room for that during your experience, otherwise you might not get to the dessert anymore. You can always order to take with you as well.

Great experience and really a recommendation for dinner in Gent.

Pros: Great vegan food, Lovely staff, Nice location

Cons: None

Not very friendly service

I read about the buffet and saw the hours listed until 2:30pm, I walked in at 2:09pm and was told that it was too late to eat! Very disappointed.

Superb

After being slightly disappointed at Le Botaniste in the city centre, I was eager to try this place.

It's not entirely clear how it works when you get there, since everything is in Dutch, but the staff are happy to explain. However we did notice that the place filled up really fast after the 6pm evening opening, so the serving staff can get a little overwhelmed.

If you're not getting takeaway, you pay €16 for an all you can eat buffet. This includes hot dishes, salad selections, soup, and dessert. You order drinks separately from the wait staff.

Once you have a table, grab your plate and fill it at the buffet. There is a Dutch menu card describing the buffet options, but honestly, you can't really go wrong with anything. It was all amazing, and there is the temptation to get absolutely stuffed with the selection. It may be a good idea to choose a small but varied plate first, then go back and get more of your preference.

Pros: Absolutely delicious, Value for money, Nice decor

Cons: Check opening times, may need to reserve table

Best place in town

This is my favorite place to eat in Ghent. There is always a wide variety of dishes, warm and cold. It has a great price for what you get. Plus if you take away it is a huge portion for almost half the price you pay compared to if you eat there.

Pros: Delicious, Cosy, Plenty of choice

Cons: May need reservation, oily and spiced food

Amazing

I finally went and boy am i glad i did. I found a new favorite restaurant in Ghent, every city should have an all vegan buffet. The food was SO GOOD they had this chickpea curry that was just delicious, also the best veganaise i've ever tasted. And the deserts ? make sure to bring cash tho, no cards accepted.

Pros: Great value, Perfect for bringing non-vegans, Super tasty

Cons: Cash only

Vegan buffet is amazing

Last time I visited Komkommertijd I was just as amazed as the first time. I usually have trouble with portions because I find the best restaurants tend to serve for taste rather than 'having eaten' a good amount. Komkommertijd takes away these worries and gets you the best of two worlds. For the children who don't like to eat their vegetables, there's was a steady stream of loempia's coming in. For those who dared venture into the unknown, everyone was content. This is a good way to get introduced to a variety of unknown dishes as you can take as little as you like.
Highly recommended, suitable for big groups if you plan ahead.

Pros: Buffet, great variety, suitable for groups

Great food and ambiance!

I loved this place! The food is very good, healthy and jummy! I couldn't stop getting more and more food. Until I felt like a cow. I could eat here every day if I would live in gent. I also like the ambiance. It's very cozy with a big chimney and nice background music. You have to come here with an empty stomach. Highly recommended.

Pros: Jummy food

Cons: None!

Popular place, you'd better reserve (and bring cash)!

Visited in October 2016.

As mentioned in other reviews, Komkommertijd is a buffet restaurant, which means that you can fill your plates again and again. By the way, drinks are not included in the buffet.

In peak times they may be a time limit for each party (1 hour or so); however, it's more than enough for you to get stuffed with yummy vegan food.
Thus, I'd recommend you to reserve a table just to be sure.
Oh, and also bring cash, as they don't seem to accept credit cards.

The dishes were a mix of indian curries, salads, soups, deep fried vegetables and grains, so there was a good variety I must say. I noticed that as some dishes finished, new ones would arrive.

Some of the dishes were a bit spicy for my taste; but it was still enjoyable.
One thing they could improve would be the offer of desserts. On the day we visited they had some coconut pound cake which was ok, but they could've had something else.

In summary, it's a great value (€16!), so if you are in Ghent, I'd recommend you to try it.

Very good!!

We were there two years ago (I opened a happycow account just now). It was very good. Lovely place, and the food was not what you usually find in a restaurant, but rather healthy and very tasty food, in a buffet style.

I ate two very well filled plates of awesome food, and only regretted it because I could't try the amazing looking desserts.
