Excellent place for omnis, some of the better Ethiopian I've had! - Edit
I live in Oakland California, where there is a fairly large Ethiopian community, and it's well known for a lot of great food options. It's also one of my favorite types of food.
Read moreKokob was delicious - definitely among the better I've had globally. They have clearly labeled vegan options, were very friendly and helpful, and of course, if you have omni people with you great for a group.
Definitely recommended - it's a nice place while still casual. Good cocktails and wine (including Ethiopian ones!)

Helpfull and surprisingly tastefull. - Edit
The servers spoke English and helped us through our first experience with Ethiopian food. They imidiately suggested something, wich wasn't the most expensive option of the menu.
Read moreWe went for the vegetarian option for 2 people that costed 22 euros per person, with the vegetarian samosa's as an appetizer. It was delicious and a lot of food!
We got an enthousiastic explanation of everything. We'll definitly go back, may even go to Brussel just for this food.
Pros: Experienced and enthousiastic servers, A lot of vegetarian and vegan options, Not too expensive

Very tasty but too expensive - Edit
Very cozy place! We were 4 people who ordered the 5 dish-sharing-pancake - A traditional Ethiopian meal. It is a fun and cozy experience, and there was plenty of food! But it is really too bad, that it was so expensive. Around 50 euro in total including beers.

Really nice Restaurant - Edit
Besides one all of the vegetarian dishes are vegan (About seven different dishes). The waitors are very friendly and used to vegan requests. The atmosphere is really nice. The prices for vegan dishes are about 9-10€. It's defenitely worth a visit!

A happy discovery - Edit
Today I visited this restaurant together with my boyfriend, while we didn't make a reservation I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Sunday's. When I entered the waiters were busy making preparations and I found myself an empty seat. Shortly after a waiter came to ask if we made a reservation and after I told him we didn't he said we couldn't sit there in a rather rude way so we got up and he said he would check if they had any free tables. So after standing there awkwardly for about 5 minutes a very friendly waiter came to tell us we could just sit at the same place where we sat down a bit before. After we ordered we got a little glass filled with spicy rice and topped with raisins wich tasted interesting and had a lot of flavour. While waiting for our main dish we saw the waiter was also not the friendliest to the other people who arrived. The main dish was served by the same friendly lady who told us that we could keep our seats. It was very original to eat with the hands and definitely a fun and interesting experience. The food was really good and nothing similar with the restaurants I tried before.

Great experience - Edit
After a long day doing sightseeing in Brussels it was a great experience to enjoy dinner at this restaurant. We reserved a table a day in advance and it was more than necessary! It serves also meat dishes but have a big vegan menu as well. For a couple (one vegan and one none vegan) its was perfect.

Quality ethiopian food - Edit
All the vegetarian courses are also vegan (if you order lentils instead of cheese). The atmosphere is great and the food is excellent. If you are willing to pay about 20 € for a main course, you will not regret going to Kokob.

Nice meal - Edit
I went there with a friend, we ordered the vegan discovery menu. It was a lot of food, we weren't able to finish it actually. It was really good, but I have to say that I expected the flavours to be more.. well.. strong. It was delicious anyway.

awesome experience - Edit
I would give this place 5 stars if I could. True there is meat served here but the staff was very knowledgeable about the vegan options and very friendly. This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and it was amazing. The atmosphere was hip and cozy, and the wine recommended by our server was delicious. If I was staying in Brussels longer I would be tempted to go back asap.
Read moreOne thing to note - we went on a Thursday evening around 6:30 without a reservation. They were able to squeeze us in but I think we got lucky. It's probably best to call ahead to make sure you get a table.

Randomly found, absolutly not dispointey - Edit
Found randonmly, and not diapointed. There is a great choice of vegan meal. The dishes are tasty, spicy but not too much. Every dish is served with white cheese but if you're asking for vegan option you can have lentil salad instead.

Beautiful food and ambience - but watch out for food getting mixed! - Edit
Found this restaurant on Happy Cow, I'm vegan my friend isn't. It was such a lovely restaurant, lovely ambience and a wonderful vegetarian menu options. The menu also stated that all vegetarian dishes were dairy free.
Read moreBeware, that when the food comes out the waiter will serve all the dishes onto one big plate - this include cheese and the meat dishes. I asked for no cheese on my "side" of the plate, which he did, but then picked up my vegan dish and put it next to/touching the cheese! We also managed to ask for the chicken to be on one side of the plate.
As it is tradition to feed the first bite, the waiter dipped some chicken into my vegan option and fed my friend before we could stop him!!
It was a communication issue really, but meant most of my meal was "contaminated". I ordered an extra dish as I couldn't eat most my meal! Again he insisted on "sharing" and dotted most of the lentils across the meat and cheese, but I managed to save enough!
All this said, the food was gorgeous. I had an aubergine dish, spicy potatoes and tomato lentils.
Highly recommend but be aware!!!
Pros: vegetarian options , tasty food, ambience
Cons: contaminated food, lack of "vegan" understanding

discovery menu - Edit
If you don't like the sour taste of the injera (thin pancake), this restaurant is not for you. If, like me, you do, then you'll find it's very nice. Take a discovery menu to get a variety of different dips and toppings. And eating with your hands is such fun :-)

second best ethiopian place? - Edit
The place is lovely, but: avoid going there with non veg people who would order meat, since all the food is put on one big plate... Or try asking your own plate, but then, it's not at all the idea of an ethiopian meal... No, the more I think of it, the best option is to convince your friends to order vegan dishes.

delicious food & coffee, friendly staff - Edit
We had the Addis Ababa menu (starter, 3 meat and 3 veg dish) but asked for it to be vegetarian. They were happy to do that. The waitress was very helpful in explaining the dishes and how to eat the dishes according to Ethiopian customs.
Read moreOur bulgur wheat appetiser was amazing - we never thought bulgur wheat could taste that good! The main meal was fantastic - tasty and very filling. And I can normally eat a huge amount. A special mention for the injera. It is similar to soured breads in south and south east Asia. This is much more springy and tastes just as good!
Dessert was ice cream (passion fruit and mandarin) and my partner had chocolate cake. The ice cream was very well made. The tartness was well balanced. We ended up fighting over the last bit of cake. Moist, light and fluffy with the right amount of sweet and bitterness.
Coffee was stupendously good - and I am particular about my coffee! There was also mocktails that were not too sweet. We haven't come across many establishments in Brussels that offered mocktails - very important when an alcohol lover is teetotal.
Pros: Good quality food & drink, Good atmosphere, Large portions
Cons: Must reserve table as is very busy

Unusual restaurant, with excellent food. - Edit
We loved this restaurant, when we visited in June 2014. There's plenty of choice vegetarians, and vegans. Unfortunately, no vegan deserts except the usual offer of a fruit salad.
Read moreThe food was excellent, and I'd definitely recommend the "Discovery Menu", which is served with a huge sourdough pancake, onto which piles of various dishes are placed. You're also given rolls of pancake, with which to scoop up your next chosen mouthful. Cutlery is provided for the less adventurous.
The Discovery Menu usually has some meat dishes, but they'll do all veggie if you wish. Say if you want vegan, because one of the dishes is rice with cheese: you'll be given a vegan alternative.
The restaurant has a buzzing atmosphere, and it's advisable to book ahead, though we were squeezed in on a Saturday evening even though we hadn't booked.
The menu is printed with English translations, and the staff generally speak good English.
Pros: Excellent food, Unusual style, Excellent atmosphere
Cons: No vegan deserts.

Brussels favourite - Edit
Kokob was a great find - very nice atmosphere, fantastic food and good prices for Brussels standards. All dishes are dairy free and there is no egg in the savory dishes, so vegatarian = vegan. There is a large selection of veg* dishes that can be ordered with injera (ethopian sourdough bread). They come with a side salad (if vegan you can omit the cheese).
Read moreHighly recommended!!
Pros: delicious food, good value, large vegan selection
Cons: NONE
