Vegan Oasis

Seemingly in the middle of Eastern Nowhere on the Ring Road of Iceland, is the rather lavish (for the time) house of famed Icelandic author Gunnar Gunnarsson. Along with a museum dedicated to him, and some small, 16th century, monastery ruins, a mother and daughter team have turned part of the house into a delightful 'cafe', with unbelievable food, including a bounty of vegan options (a VERY significant rarity in general outside of Reykjavik). Served buffet style, an even bigger surprise were several scrumptious desserts (can you say amazing chocolate cake and vegan whipped cream?). If you're on the Ring Road, or traveling from Reykjavik east, don't miss this place.
