Not so sure about this place

I can only speak to what I ordered, I'm sure they have some nice dishes. But the mock meat used for the butter chicken was pretty inedible. It was unlike any mock meat I've tried. If you are picky about this, maybe try a different dish. The sauce itself was nice though.

Pros: Vegan options clearly shown , Decent number of options

Cons: Weirdest mock meat ever

delicious mistake

I was actually planning to go to Huong Viet for lunch today but I accidentally walked in here, lured by the delicious smells. I’m glad I did.

I chose the lamb biryani from the vegan menu. Other reviewers have mentioned the strange texture of the mock meats but I didn’t notice this. The “lamb” they use seems to be one of the vegan “mutton” products you can buy in many Asian grocery stores. Yes, it’s stringy but I’m used to it. I noticed that the mock chicken dishes are cheaper and guessed they might use cheaper, dehydrated “soy chunks” in these dishes.

The biryani landed on my table as a mountain of rice, plenty of chunks of mock, tasty biryani spices and chopped coriander - no veggies but still very tasty. I’d definitely return to try some of their curries, entrees, and breads. Would be a great place to share a meal with some veggie curries as well as mock meat dishes.

Amazing

This is by far the best Indian food I have ever eaten. My favourites are the vegan lamb saag and the vegan butter chicken, but they have lots of great options. My partner and me drive from the other side of Melbourne to get dinner here. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a great (vegan) meal

Pros: Great food, Great prices, Extensive vegan menu

Tasty Vegan Indian food!

Delicious Vegan Butter Chicken, Vegan Korma, Yellow Lentil Dahl, Aloo Paratha and Pea Pulao.
Nice staff and atmosphere. Footscray doesn't have many places for vegan dinner and this is a good one to meet friends and it serves alcohol. Open Monday when many places are shut.

Pros: Vegan naan!!, Alcohol , Good place to meet friends for dinner

Cons: Their wine isn't vegan

Extensive menu, strange mock meats

Dropped in here for a lunch takeaway, and though I appreciate the vegan options close to my workplace, the current menu is not really built for it. With rice and or naan, and a main, you're looking at over $20 takeaway, which is really sit-in prices and not suitable for a business lunchtime crowd.
The butter chicken I ordered was tasty, but as others have commented, the mock 'chicken' they used felt and tasted like a sandwich-grade sliced salami, or luncheon meat - not even close to chicken and frankly, the dish would have been far better without it entirely.
I will work my way through the other options here to find something I can regularly enjoy, but I think I'll be avoiding all the mock meats section, which is a shame as this represents a substantial portion of their vegan menu.

Pros: Nice interior, Large vegan menu

Cons: Mock meats detract from the dishes, No specific lunch menu for takeaway, Limited understanding of modern AUS veganism

Delicious food and lovely staff!

The food was delicious and my husband and child both agreed! I was super happy to find a great vegan butter chicken. The owners are vegetarian (I dialect lifelong and for religious reasons) and have a lot of respect for vegans, so you can be assured that everything is very strictly vegan if labelled so. We will definitely be back and hope to make it a regular event.

Pros: a whole vegan menu on top of the typical vegetaria

Cons: a slightly long wait, but I did ask for a menu var

Enjoy those favs

Plenty of mock meat on the separate vegan menu. We ordered via Menulog so I can't comment on the venue or service.

Ordered a mock chicken and saag dish which was OK. The chicken was unconvincing, which I am OK with but would probably order saag aloo for next time. It was mildly spiced. The other dish was Navrata Korma, requested vegan. That was really nice. The garlic naan was lovely. Great to have another Indian option in this region that caters for vegans.

Cons: Serves meat
