Fully loaded deep dish - Edit
Ordered: Fully Loaded Deep Dish
Read moreBeen missing deep dish and been wanting to try Kitchen 17 and finally had the experience. I ordered delivery and was worried that it wouldn’t be as good or it would arrive cold, but it arrived hot and fresh. The giardinara in it gives it nice bite to the flavor and the cheese and sauce are perfect. The crust is crispy and doughy at the same time and goes great dipping afterward in the extra sauce on my plate. Highly recommend for deep dish lovers, will be getting this again in the future.
Pros: Declicious Deep Dish

Who knew Veg Deep Dish - Edit
First Vegan deep dish I've had and I'm happy I've found it. Been crazing that deep deep ever since going vegan and I'll be returning again. Also some awesome artichoke dip to boot. My only critique is I longed for some stretchy more chewy cheese but you can only go so far with vegan cheese sometimes.

Super tasty - Edit
Everything was flavorful and tasted great. The deep dish wasn't as deep as we were expecting and there didn't seem to be a lot of veggies for a "plant eater" pizza but we didn't mind because it tasted so good.

Just What I Needed - Edit
After taking my wife to eat authentic Chicago deep dish pizza (she’s not vegan), it was my turn. After thorough research, and recommendations from local Happy Cow’ers, I selected Kitchen 17. I ordered the traditional pizza deep dish and a mega cookie mud pie. The pizza was absolutely delicious! Everything about it was magical. I could drink the tomato sauce. I haven’t eaten the dessert yet but I have no doubts it will be delicious. Be sure to check this place out if you’re in the mood for pizza.

Vegan Junk Food - Edit
One of our go-to places for pizza. Greasy and tasty! The cheese is tasty, but a little runnier than dairy cheese.
Read moreWould not want to eat here all the time, but definitely a good spot when you want some Vegan Chicago Pizza. My flexitarian parents loved it.
My favorite is actually their pan pizza.
Pros: Tasty, Vegan Pizza!
Cons: Greasy, Runny Cheese

Overall great food - Edit
Very small but cozy restaurant. You can grab a menu and seat yourself. We ordered the chicken sandwich, Philly cheesesteak, the traditional deep dish with spinach added, and a slice of Oreo cake for dessert.
Read moreChicken sandwich - delicious and the flavors complimented each other very well. The chicken seitan appeared to be made in-house because the shape is irregular. The seitan was very crispy, thick, and seasoned well.
Philly cheesesteak - it was nonsensically good. After finishing it, my husband literally looked up and wondered why the restaurant was not full. The bread was toasted but not crumbly, which made it pleasant to eat without pieces falling apart. Eating it from end to end was a delicious balance of flavor, even the parts without the ranch and mozzarella mixture. It perfectly leads you in and out of the center of the sandwich. It was so good that we ordered another to go.
Traditional deep dish with spinach - it is only a slight step down from the Giordano’s deep dish. The cheese needed to be a bit thicker so that the other ingredients don’t overpower it so much when it should be the highlight of the pizza. As leftovers, it held up great.
Oreo cake - it was good, but it was extremely sweet, more so than non vegan cake that we have tried.
Sides - the fries were not regular bar fries. They are crispy, high quality fries that taste delicious. Also, the buffalo sauce seemed made in house and tasted better than others we have tried.
We are excited to return for more Philly cheesesteak and to try more options.

Amazing food - Edit
Small restaurant, ok service but who cares when they make such amazing food. Just be glad they exist.
Read moreDeep dish pizza is so good, the chilli bowl was the best I've ever had (loved how salty it was) the artichoke dip was good, a little runny and I wished the pita bread was more toasted.
I'll miss this place, a must re-visit for me when I'm back in Chicago.
Cons: Very small, about 5 tables., Hard to find parking (obviously)

Just okay - Edit
Cute spot with fun options but the food could have tasted better. My table had the gyro, fries, side of ranch, artichoke dip, and Mac and cheese pizza.
Read moreThe flavor of the gyro was good. The rest of the food was saltier and greasier than I had hoped.

Interesting options - Edit
The pizza here sure has interesting options and I love to see the variety, however I just don’t think I’m a big fan of deep dish. Haha. The Mac and cheese was good, I just wanted.. less toppings. Same with the plant lovers, good! Just hard to eat.. great portions though! One pizza is probably enough for two (if you can settle on just one, we couldn’t! Haha)

Good food and friendly staff - Edit
This restaurant reminds me of every leftie college co-housing situation I've ever seen - there's an eclectic, chaotic organization to everything but it kind of works.
Read moreThis restaurant is open later than others (e.g., Chicago Diner) and offers a nice array of food. I enjoyed my chicken platter and slice of peaches and cream cake. The staff were nice.
COVID Note: There is outdoor seating but only 3 tables when I went. Indoor dining is also available.
Pros: Variety of food, Nice staff, Fast service

Yum! - Edit
First, the fries are amazing. I had them delivered and they were still crispy and tasted delicious cold. The gyro was one of the best I have had. The chicken sandwich had great flavor and texture. Probably best fresh. The Mac and cheese wasn’t my favorite but still edible. Also, the peach cake was mind blowing. It was like eating a peach custard pie on top of cake.

We got the 5 Pack and a gluten-free plant eaters. All were delicious. The sauce, cheese, toppings and crust were all very tasty. Great work, Kitchen 17 Staff! tummy ache - Edit
this place is cute and hip, but the pizza I had sat like a rock. I only came here once on a date about two years ago, but haven’t been back due to the pizza I had. this is definitely a vegan junk food place, so if you’re into grease, you’d like it here. they have board games you can play while you wait for your food which I thought was a cute touch, but now seems kinda gross due to covid. up to you though!

Chicago's Best - Edit
After eating at most of Chicago's vegan places, I feel like I have a good enough feel for this cities vegan food to be able to confidently declare Kitchen 17 the best vegan place in Chicago. They have the best vegan pizza in the city, and even do vegan deep dish. I only wish they had more topping options (specifically mushrooms.) Their burgers are even better. I'd have to say that they have the best vegan burgers in the city. The staff is great too, and they've hosted some really cool events (Fat Tuesday pizza buffet.)
Read moreBut, the real lifeblood of Kitchen 17 is the cakes and desserts. I swear the baker puts crack in their cakes because they are too good. I have ordered several full cakes from here and they've all been spectacular. One of them I brought to my grandmothers 75th birthday party so I'd have cake to eat too, and the rest of my extended (and very non-vegan) family all said that it was possibly the best cake they'd ever had. And they aren't even that heavy. I literally ate the remaining half of the 12" cake the next morning and didn't feel sick or put out at all. I would highly recommend getting a full cake for an event, or just for yourself.
Pros: Good Pizza, Great Burgers, The best cakes you'll ever have
Cons: Wish they had more pizza topping options

Best vegan Chicago pizza. Try everything else with caution. - Edit
After being really disappointed with the House of Za and their flavorless pizza I tried kitchen 17 even though it’s far from me. It was amazing. Tons of flavor. Everything house of za was missing. My carnivore friends loved it too. When I go to a new vegan place I usually order multiple dishes. I tried the chili, fries, spinach artichoke dip and a peach cake of some sort. The cake was soggy and without distinct flavor and everything was so oily it was soaking through the containers and bags. The only other tasty thing was the chilli. The fries were seasoned well.
