Excellent service and food! Staff knowledgable - a must visit! - Edit
I visited Kingtiger with two others and we were greeted promptly and taken to a table immediately without a prior booking. The waitress was great and knew what dishes were vegan or could be made vegan. She told me that if there was something else on the menu I wanted she would ask the chef to make it vegan (if I couldn’t choose from the selections she provided). I ordered the green curry (mild) and it was fantastic! The dish had great flavour and was full of veggies. I definitely recommend dining here if you’re in Franz Josef. I want to go back for more!

The best place in Franz Jospeh for vegan & gluten free food. - Edit
They have a few vegetarian and a few gluten free dishes on the menu- curry, dal, pad thai. I wasn’t fancying any of the above and asked if they could make a vegan Tom yum with some extra tofu and whether they could make garlic & pepper vegetables gluten free . The waitress said it shouldn’t be a problem but needed to double check with the chef- came back few minutes later and confirmed all can be made vegan & gluten free for me.

Pros: Few vegetarian options, Few gluten free options , Happy to customize the dishes
Cons: No separate vegan menu, No separate gluten free menu

Awesome curry - Edit
The server confirmed that our options were vegan. We had the spring rolls, green curry, and massaman curry. It would be great if they have tofu as an option instead of just veggies. But the veggies were plentiful and delish. The curry had a deep flavor. They also had Singha. Nice filling meal after our helihike.

Yum - Edit
I asked what the vegan options were. They also have all vegetarian options marked on the menu. They were happy to accommodate and make my tom yum vegan and it was lovely!

Delicious - Edit
Had the China Town fried tofu - so good! Then the green curry which was also amazing, however they told me it wasn’t spicy (the mild one) but it was pretty spicy so I couldn’t finish it.

Good vegan options - Edit
We had the green curry and the pad thai, both delicious! The portions are quite big and it's really tasty. The staff is friendly and the service is good. Only con is that nothing is advertise as vegan on the menu so you have to go and ask.. or ask your waiter/waitress who might not know and will have to go himself and ask. This happened to us and the waiter just quickly read to us the list of dishes without telling us what they were which was confusing. It would really be awesome if they could print a vegan menu as they obviously are able to veganize a lot of their dishes!

good but confused - Edit
i had the green curry (which was one of the best curries i have had so far!) and my bf the other choice next to the pad thai (sorry i forgot the name). it tasted very good as well but on the receipt it said "chicken ..." while mine was clearly labelled vege curry. when i saw that it was too late to ask so we are kind of confused because the texture reminded me of chicken. but we clearly mentioned we are vegan amd the cook knew that so except for the unlikely case of him thinking chicken isn't meat it must have been really good seitan or something... hopefully ;)

So Good! - Edit
I highly recommend this restaurant. In addition to a variety of Asian dishes, they have Indian that is absolutely delicious. Plus, all mains are served with basmati rice, so there's no extra charge for it.
Read moreAlthough vegan dishes aren't specifically listed on the menu, talk to the owner and he will walk you through it. We had Red Lentil Dal and Vegetable Jalfrezi, both gluten-free, nut-free vegan.
I seriously wished I had two stomachs, just so I could keep eating. Some of the best Indian we've had in New Zealand.
Pros: Friendly owner and staff, Fun ambiance, Delicious food
