Amazing noodles

The restaurant is very cool and has a good few vegan options. I went for the rice noodles and all I can say is that it was full of flavour! One of my favourites I've had in Ireland.

Pros: Tasty food, A few vegan options, Clear menu

Cons: A bit pricy

Nice inside

Inside decorated with wall art and signs hanging from the ceiling. We shared a raw spring roll starter with sweet chilli sauce which was tasty and light. For main I had tofu and vegetable fried rice. It was tasty. A medium/small portion size. Quite simple. Just flavoured with soy sauce and garnished with lime which lifted it a bit. My husband had the equivalent made with rice noodles instead of rice and dried chilli flakes. His dead centre beer was good. It was a wee bit disappointing to see all the descriptions of interesting flavours on the menu but only soy sauce for the vegan dishes. There were two other vegan starters. A tofu dish which sounded lovely with peanuts but we were warned off it as it is cooked in an oil fryer with non vegan items. There was also a vegan soup starter. It seemed expensive for what we got but did the job. If you were hungry you’d need several
Courses/dishes or to fill up on extra rice. I had read in a previous review that there was a vegan menu. I asked for it but nothing came. The main menu is clearly marked with V for vegan but when we ordered the waiter kept saying vegetarian. It’s very central in a quaint street.

Pros: Well marked menu , Tofu, Lovely decor

Cons: Expensive , Unadventurous vegan options

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled to many countries during the past 5 and a half years of being vegan. Kin Khao, in my home town of Athlone, is still one of my favourite restaurants in the world. They have an entire vegan menu. This is great as it means there are lots of options, and you can trust that the food is fully vegan. The vegan yellow curry is honestly the best curry I’ve ever tasted, it’s so so flavoursome.

The staff are also very friendly and helpful. The decor is made to look like the streets of Bangkok, it’s really cool. Excellent location in the centre of Athlone. Kin Khao has received many awards including

They also did a really excellent job of keeping the restaurant open for takeaway during the height of pandemic restrictions. Staff and customer safety is a priority and you feel very safe ordering from them or dining in

Just want to update this - I wrongly said there was an entire vegan menu - what I meant was there were vegan options for starter, main and dessert. Sorry.

However, they now have even more options! Not sure if there’s a whole separate menu but there are lots more options.

I also found out that the cashews on the fresh spring rolls were cooked with non vegan items which was disappointing - I’d be sure to double check that everything is cooked separately when ordering

If you get the sticky rice with coconut cream it’s vegan and so lush
