Mediocre food, will rip you off - Edit

The staff is rude, the food is mediocre, and prices are inconsistent/made up. I know there aren't many vegetarian options on the island, but don't go to this one!

We went here three nights in a row and it kept getting worse:

Night 1 we ordered a rice plate and filled it with mock meats and vegetables from the table (we thought it was a buffet) and at the end of our meal we were charged 45k which we thought was kinda pricey for Vietnam but reasonable because we got a lot of food!

Night 2 when we ordered our rice and were starving so filled it with the same amount of mock meats and vegetables, but this time they didn't bring us soup, and at the end of the meal they told us 65k each. Someone else in the restaurant explained it's not a buffet, but they instead evaluate 'how much you eat' and charge whatever they like. They then continued to charge her 60k despite her getting less than half the amount of food that we got. We were irritated on her behalf, but she said she had been paying 20-30k before but had forgotten to show them how much she had gotten before eating this time (another thing we didn't know to do).

Night 3: we felt we had really learned our lesson and went in confidently ready to put less on our plate, and show them before eating. We got the rice and put just a few slices of mock meat, 1 spring roll, and some vegetables (much less food than the other two nights). We then asked how much before we started eating. The youngish man said '40k' and the older woman started screaming at him in Vietnamese while pointing to us and our plates. He then said '50k' and pointed to each individual slice of meat saying '10k each'. 10k for each tiny piece of mock meat??

We were outraged by the complete pricing inconsistency and targeting of tourists. On top of this, the food is not amazing, it is just one of the only vegetarian options on the island. It is salty mock meats and rice. Despite the fact that 'we can afford it' it was really about the principle and rudeness they showed us after coming multiple times.

Tip: You can get a plate of Com Chay (vegetarian rice) that is just as good, one street over for 25k.

Pros: vegan

Cons: rude, inconsistent pricing, salty mock meats

as a vegan in Vietnam, finding a vegetarian restaurant can be hard. I looked on happycow and discovered this one, which sounded great! When we got there we discovered it was buffet style: you choose rice or soup, and if you choose rice, you go up and make your own dish. Price is based on amount of food-- and it is ARBITRARY. We went 3 nights in a row, and the first night ate about a pound of food for 40K VND. The second night they gave us more of a hard time and charged 65K for a bit less food. We tried to argue but they were obstinate and we learned our lesson: ask how much the plate costs before eating it and before you sit down.

Night 3: we walk in and get a minuscule amount of food. One or two pieces of mock meat and a couple veggies and a spring roll. At abnormal vegetarian restauarant this would be 20-25K. They said 40, and I was shocked. Then, to make things worse, a woman (who is presumably the owner) came over with the guy who appraised our meal and started YELLING in Vietnamese. They then stated that it would cost 50K for the same plate because each piece of mock meat apparently costs 10K.

TLDR: they judged us based on the color of our skin and tried to upcharge us for LESS food after we'd eaten there THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW. Absolutely atrocious customer service. If you're in a bind, buy some Oreos, cause these people are AWFUL.

Pros: It's vegan

Cons: Asshole employees, Racist, Inconsistent

Best in Phu Quoc - Edit

All vegans/vegetarians staying in Phu Quoc should eat here every day. I did, and stuffed myself.

Not much English spoken, but:

1) Go to the back
2) Declare your intent to eat rice or noodles
3) If noodles you will get a big bowl of tasty noodle soup
4) If rice you will get a plate of rice to top with all the buffet options, plus a small bowl of peppery soup.
5) Pay 30-50k dong.
6) Repeat

Pros: Quality + quantity

Cons: None

Super tasty options & satisfying buffet - Edit

We loved this place and even ate here for breakfast, takeaway lunch and dinner during the same day! It's not the cleanest and the price is a bit inconsistent (between 30.000 and 50.000 dong), but cheap eitherway. One of the staff was really nice and told us about his vegan journey which was really interesting to hear from a local.

Pros: Different vegan options throughout the day. You ch

Cons: Not the cleanest, as its's street food style, so d

Interesting but not very nice - Edit

Different kinds of tofu and mock meats with rice and some cooked vegetables. Some meats were quite tasty, but the buffet as a whole was oily and not very fresh at all. Some people will probably like it, but it was our least satisfying meal in Vietnam so far. 40,000 dong per person.

Pros: Many new (and quite convincing!) mock meats

Cons: Nothing fresh, Food had probably been standing a while

Lovely little buffet - Edit

Just had a take away box which I filled myself, and there were a few other items than in other com chay restaurants, liked stuffed tomatos (looked like white cheese inside).
And especially the mock chicken was the best I ever had so far.

Best vegan restaurant on Phu Quoc - Edit

Small vegan buffet restaurant with delicious different vegetables, soups and mock meat dishes. Nearly no English spoken, but as it is buffet this is no problem. We had dinner there 4 times and tried all meals from soups to rice dishes. Inexpensive place, soup is cheaper than rice dishes (around 30.000 and 40.000 Dong per person)
Just follow the small street of Buddys Ice cream and you will find it on the second corner. Open all day.

Good stuff - Edit

The food was great, but I have no idea what I was eating, as I don't speak Vietnamese and the staff don't speak English. 25,000 VND! (The 5,000 VND leaf wraps filled with rice [?] weren't very good though.) The portion wasn't huge, but perhaps I was allowed to take more? I felt a bit clueless.

Pros: Spicy, Price, Friendly staff (at least I think they were ...)

Cons: No English, No proper toilet, No alcohol

Great - Edit

Big and delicious buffet. The cakes are really good, they also offer boxes with different kinds of vegan cookies (35000VND) but they are rather dry and sweet. To every meal they serve free green tea plus a soup, we can truly recommend this place.
Closed on two days a month but we couldn't find out which ones. A waiter told us on the 2nd and 15th (on the Vietnamese calendar) and we found it closed on a 31th.

Pros: Many choices, tasty, cheap

The staff speaks very little English but was very friendly and proud vegans, making sure we understood that everything was pure vegan. We are very happy and it was extremely cheap.5/5!

Try the mushrooms - Edit

This place is a hidden gem and the food here is great. I recommend that you try the unique Tram Mushrooms which are only found on the island. I also liked the tet desert.

Please note that some of the dishes are made with fish sauce, so you need to ask them. Fish sauce is basically liquified anchovies and salt.

All this info was found at this helpful website: http://www.phuquocislandguide.com

Pros: Have the rare mushrooms, service, variety of dishes

Cons: Use fish sauce in some dishes, Too much soy, too much salt

Simple and delicious - Edit

The chicken is the best thing here, come early. About 5 pm there will be not so much food anymore. They do not have salad, just lots of fake meat, soup and rice. Try it :)

Pros: Interesting fake meat, Friendly Staff, Non-smoker

Cons: Lots of fat, not really healthy, No fresh stuff like salad or fruits, No food in the evening anymore :(

hidden treasure - Edit

Fantastic buffet eatery that doesn't look much, but great mock meat selection and interesting veggies. Friendly owner and staff and great for a lunch rest stop with the locals in town.

Pros: good selection, vegan, feel like a local

Cons: a few flies around

Very tasty options - Edit

Some very creative stuff on offer.

ok, so they only have 8-10 hot plates to choose from each day, but there are some good choices. it's mostly veggie protein, tofu and a few veggies, with plenty of chilli.

Set price for a plate of rice with as much of the veggie stuff piled on as you can fit. Price is USD 1.50 per plate, so it's a real bargain.

They have free pandanus falvour cold drinking water.

Pros: Very tasty, Very cheap

Cons: No English spoken, Not the cleanest looking place

Pros: cheap, tasty, authentic
