Desperate Times - Edit

I have gone here many times. The vegan options are all pretty much the same, they have mostly the same ingredients. It's not really delicious and they mostly serve meat. The staff is hit or miss. I've had some really good and some really bad. It's a lot cheaper than Morning Glory and there is an outdoor cafe with heat lamps. This is a good place for brunch with your meaty friends (once in a while) or subsistence dining.

Pros: Year-round outdoor cafe, cheap

Cons: Mediocre food, Poor vegan selection

Service - Edit

Took 65 minutes to get our food after being told 25. Pretty much no vegan options, and I bet the vegan options are still cooked on the same grill as all the meat crap. You can usually tell from the cleanliness of the place and what the cooks look like and well....you get the idea.

But when you take 65 minutes to get out vegetarian food you will never see my repeat business, so the rest of it doesn't really matter.

Pros: Decent art on the walls

Cons: Service, Service, Service

Everybody must get Keystoned - Edit

Great food! It's nice having a place I can eat with my pro murder friends =) They claim to cook every order in seperate frying pans to avoid cross contamination. Good prices! Their homemade herb bread is amazing and their homefries are really good when they're fresh. Many vegan/veg options, my fave are the vegan powerhouse with the tempeh mix and peanut sauce, the vegan biscuits & gravy, and the vegan french toast (way better than the reg), and their vegan choc cookies. Great prices, locally owned by a nice guy, awesome shaded patio with music in the evenings.
I do have a few cons though: they seem to be very understaffed at certain times of the day with long waits for your food, they've given me real butter instead of soy with my toast & french toast many times (the cooks seem apathetic and over worked), they seem to mess up my food about 1 in 4 times but are always quick to fix the prob or comp the meal. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Pros: affordable, tasty, atmosphere

Cons: understaffed, not always fresh/hot, serves meat and dairy

Only go there for the food - Edit

It's well known throughout Eugene that Keystone Cafe has terrible wait service..don't go there for that. I have never gone for anything but breakfast and our staple is always the vegan powerhouse with homefries/nutritional yeast gravy/spinach/mushrooms and it never disappoints. I have had the biscuits and mushroom gravy which is excellent and occasionally have the greek scramble which is also very good. They have outdoor seating which is nice in the summertime but sitting inside is comfortable as well.
All in all it's a good breakfast but just be prepared to get your own coffee/water/silverware and then relax.

Pros: Good Food, Inexpensive, Atmosphere

Only if money is an object... - Edit

Keystone's food is decent and inexpensive, but the service is generally iffy, especially considering that coffee and water are self-service; would it kill you to come back to the table and ask how things are? I have also twice found hair in my food. Unless you're tight on money or you have a group that includes both veggies and non-veggies who want meat, try Morning Glory. If you do go, the powerhouse and the vegan french toast are both solid options.

Pros: Inexpensive, Location

Cons: Service

Yummy potatoes and tofu scramble - Edit

I had the Vegan Tofu Scramble - grilled tofu, green peppers, onions, with nutritional yeast gravy and Keystone bread, $6.95. The tofu had a great taste especially mixed with the light gravy. The bread was also very good. I substituted a Vegan Keystone Breakfast Patty for the rice but that wasn't a good idea. The patty was ruined by spiciness. It starts off tasting good and then the good taste is overtaken but burning fire mouth. Not too into that for breakfast/brunch. My girlfriend got the "Lumpy" (vegetarian) - half order of homefries, tofu, onions, cheese and yogurt, $5.25. Her homefries were simply fantastic. The yogurt not so much but she had the good sense to order it on the side.

The restaurant was busy but not crazy. Our server was nice but only came to the table once then disappeared.

Pros: Potatoes, Keystone bread

Cons: Spicy patty, service

Terrible - Edit

The food was just not good. The taters my lady got were cooked next to someone's bacon. The food I got was limp and flavorless. Probably a hot spot in the old days, but nowadays it was just kind of gross. Waitstaff was non-existent as well. Save it and try either Brails or MG.

Pros: coffee

Cons: food, waitstaff, unsettling

buiscuts & gravy, period - Edit

i've tried about half a dozen things from their vegan menu, and the vegan buiscuts & gravy (mushroom or 'sausage' option) are the reason i come back. flaky buiscuts, savory gravy-yes. the rest of the items; spinach enchiladas-soggy and bland, tofu scramble-bland and boring, homefries-bland and dry, vegan cinnamon roll-bland, hard, dry. the b&g though, yumm.

Pros: buiscuts & gravy, prices, vegan options

Cons: bland, uninspired, noisy

Good Breakfast - Edit

I recently visited my friends in Eugene and we went here for breakfast one morning. First I was happy because they serve Yerba Mate tea which is my personal fave and they had a good variety of vegan options. I would recommend herbivores visit this place for breakfast.

Cons: cash only
