Having consulted numerous sources and noting the accolades this health-conscious chain has amassed, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. As it transpires, not a lot, it would seem.
Read morePerhaps I’ve completely missed something magical that this place offers to warrant such an ardent following, though I find it highly unlikely. I earnestly gave it the best opportunity to shine by ordering near enough all that I could lay my hands on, but the outcome was more mediocre than meteoric.
In the interest of fairness, I will say that it wasn’t terrible, just overall disappointing. The first bone of contention was the portion sizes – I know that this is a macro-focused menu, but it’s not hard to extol the nutritious merits of your dishes when the servings are more micro.
My second gripe was with the inconsistency in flavours. Some items did excel; the lentil soup in particular impressed, and the cauliflower fried rice and Asian salad weren’t too far behind. The summer rolls certainly had potential, but they essentially disintegrated as I picked them up, which was obviously less than ideal. However, from there, everything was rather one-note and lacked proficient seasoning. The worst offender had to be the chilli bowl; it seriously underwhelmed and gave next to nothing in terms of spice or heat.
When summarising the meal as a whole, ‘passable’ is the phrase that springs most readily to mind. Could I be tempted to give them another try? Perhaps. Though there are a string of other options that would take preference.
