Either for a coffee and a treat or a nice meal, Kato gateaux is a must in the city of Mechelen!
Read moreThey only serve until 16:00 but I do recommend this nice place. You can enjoy your food or drink inside in two different environments or outside if the weather allows it.

We called into Kato Gâteau for lunch today. It wasn't quite what I expected from other reviews as it was more like a café than a bakery. And despite rumours to the contrary, there were no pies to be found!
Read moreWhat the menu does have is a range of sweet & savoury dishes plus a selection of cakes. We shared the empanadas and the croque deluxe. Both came with a sizeable salad and were pretty tasty. Other options include an avocado bagel, soup, French toast and pancakes.
Pros: 100% vegan, Nice food, Cosy vibe

a large selection of absolutely delicious vegan cakes and pies! the drink are good too and the staff is very friendly. only downside is the limited space to sit and it gets busy quickly (which is only natural since the food is so good)

I just had the broccoli soup and toast and it was delicious. I also ordered a rose iced tea which was more like soda water without a lot of taste. I got something similar in Germany so I think iced tea means something different here in Western Europe for those of you used to getting cold brewed tea when you order iced tea.

Leuk plantaardig lunchzaakje met lekker eten. Zoete aardappel wafels gehad met een topping van o.a. hummus, granaatappelpitjes, avocado en mijn vriend had empanada's met een salade. Beide erg lekker en verrassend vullend (het leek niet zo'n grote portie maar was voldoende). Uniek eten. Lekkere speculoos latte gehad met hazelnootmelk. Mijn vriend had chocomel met havermelk (de chocoladedruppels krijg je er los bij). Ruime keus aan plantaardige melk. Helaas kan er niet van de ontbijtkaart besteld worden in de middag (alleen zondags), ik had graag de pancakes of wentelteefjes gehad.

Personeel was vriendelijk, locatie is midden in het centrum (handig) en dichtbij een parkeergarage.
De ruimte binnen is niet zo groot maar wel mooi aangekleed en er is een terras dat vrij groot is.
Prijzen zijn aan de hoge kant, maar nog wel te doen. Gebak is wel vrij duur. Lunchgerechten rond de €13,50 - €15
Pros: Unieke lekkere gerechten , Vullende gerechten , 4 soorten plantaardige melk
Cons: Prijzen wat aan de hoge kant, Wc op 1e verdieping (trap op), Alleen zondags hele dag ontbijt te bestellen

Had some Danish pastry and tried some pies. The pastry was a bit disappointing I would say. I like it a bit more greasy, these were rather dry. Maybe more healthy I guess, unfortunately I wanted to sin 😌

Heel gezellig plekje met lekkere, all vegan gerechten voor ontbijt, lunch en dessert. Zeker een aanrader! De dessertjes zijn super lekker. Klein nadeel: de portie van de ontbijtsalade vond ik een beetje klein. Maar dat liet dus nog ruimte voor een stukje cheesecake😄
