Karma waters - Edit

Keen to try here on our travels in Vietnam but really disappointed
Should have eaten local Vietnamese foods rather than their curries, which were bland with no flavour at all.
Sadly will not go back there as we had already eaten fabulous other vegan foods in Hoi An
It is hard to write a negative review, as I am a chef, but I felt it was necessary

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Food lacking flavour / spice , Expensive for what we had

Good food but... - Edit

I must agree with a previous reviewer that mentioned “questionable hygiene”. That being said the food I tried was always good.

Great food & good range - Edit

After having sampled dishes in India & Cambodia recently this was our first in Vietnam. We were not disappointed. This all vegan restaurant offers tasty food at reasonable prices. Also the staff are campaigners for animal rights, as evidenced by their noticeboard! The food was excellent, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Pros: Quality menu

Delicious! - Edit

Karma Waters is mega cute! The food is super yummy - we had the pho, spring rolls, shredded tofu banh mi and cold rolls. All delicious! The staff are cute and it has a really homey vibe. Lots of vegan stuff about the place and they are very environmentally conscious. They also do ethically responsible tours and cooking classes, which had I known, I’d of gotten around! A must visit! It is a little pricey in compared to other local places, but on par if not cheaper than the touristy restaurants that are about.

Great Options, Questionable Hygiene - Edit

They have a fantastic menu that includes everything from local food, raw vegan salads, Indian food and western options. Reasonable prices and portion sizes. But for me the dishes were just OK. Also, it is a very basic set up with limited space. I should mention that I saw a small animal run across the floor. As much as I love all animals I don't want to see rodents in the kitchen I am eating at. It really put me off going back.

Pros: All vegan

Hår i maten - Edit

Good hot dog - Edit

I enjoyed the banh mi hot dog a lot (40k). However this place wasn't what o expected. I thought it would be a fancy cafe but it was actually a very small local place, with one table filled with staff or family members having their dinner. We felt a little like we were imposing when we tried to order. They didn't speak much English but the menu did have an English translation.
I liked the ethos of the place, they have posters about how they help to feed people with financial struggles.
I was a bit unsure why the food was so expensive for what it was though.. restaurant prices for a street food style place.
If you want a hot dog though, it's worth going.

Pros: Good hot dog banh mi, Good ethos

Cons: Expensive , Small and not cosy, Hard to communicate

delicious vegan vietnamese - Edit

We have eaten here a couple of times, and some of the dishes are exquisite! All of the Vietnamese style dishes we have ordered have been excellent, like the turmeric rice, papaya salad and summer rolls. the drinks are good too, a great ethos and they fund local charity too.

Ok if you’re craving a good veggie dog! - Edit

This place is nice, a little expensive by Vietnam standards.

I had the hotdog which was really tasty
My boyfriend had the veggie burger which was more bread than burger and a little dry

The homemade potato fries are really good

The salad portions are really big

Pros: tasty hotdogs

Cons: rat by the outdoor seating area

Singapore. noodles - tasteless and noodles so clumped together had to get a knife and fork.

Burger - OH said it was tasteless too and all he could taste was the peanut sauce on it.

Very expensive and had to wait ages.

Very tasty vegan food - Edit

Nice to find a pure vegan restaurant that actually understands veganism as there is so much confusion between veganism and vegetarianism in Vietnam. However, we think this restaurant is a little overpriced considering it is a pretty basic setting. And that is why we are not giving it 5 stars. Also, it is directly opposite a shop which has a number of birds in cages hanging outside which is not a pleasant view if you are sitting in front of the restaurant and you are vegan. Aside from these issues, the food is tasty and we especially recommend the Bahn mi.

Ok - Edit

Food is good and good options, but little bit too oily i think and they use some spice that made us little allergic.
This place needs renovation! We like the fact that they care about the environment, they have deposit on takeaway :)
Really good curry here!

Cons: Needs redecoration

came back 4 times!! - Edit

We stayed in Hoi An for a week and are here 4 times. ALL VEGAN! Food takes a little while because it's made fresh. We enjoyed several of the fruit smoothies (they don't use any added sugar). Got the crispy lemongrass tofu a few times as it was so yummy. I also got the vege Indian curry each time for my 1.5 year old who loved it with the roti. We also tried the tofu roll, hot dog, fried rice, turmeric rice and a noodle dish. Everything was amazing !!!! Lovely ladies work there too. Very friendly

Pros: clean and nice sitting area

Cons: food takes a while to make...but it's so fresh!

Overhyped. Good clean food but nothing to get excited about. - Edit

Should've have gotten so excited about the food but couldn't help but read all the amazing reviews about all the dishes.

The food turned out to be good. But just a standard good. It was nice but definitely not as mind blowing as everyone had gone on about.

Mango smoothie was also nice. They blended a mango and added nothing else so it was a mango puree.

Nice meal, nothing more.

The best smoothie I've had in Vietnam! *Update* - Edit

* Update to my previous review as this info needs to be shared!*
After being away from Vietnam for a few months I returned to Karma Waters last night for a refreshing healthy drink and a snack. The ginger, orange and cucumber juice was just what I needed to help heal the cold virus I've got at the moment. It's so refreshing to have a juice without heaps of sugar added and much healthier too. However, the snack was what I'm on here to rave about! I chose the crunchy tofu with lemongrass. It came out resembling fried chicken (breadcrumb coated shredded tofu on a lemongrass stick) and it's taste and texture was close to it too - Holy Cow it was good! I didn't know it was possible to make tofu so chicken-like! Definitely a good option for those craving compassionate junk food :) The description and picture on the menu don't do it justice - it's so much more than just crunchy tofu! If you'e craving a vegan version of KFC, this is the place to get it!

Previous Review:
I finally got round to visiting the Hoi An branch of Karma Waters the other day and was glad that I did. As has already been mentioned by many other reviewers, this place isn't as cheap as your average Chay place, but it is a step up in terms of food quality, hygiene, atmosphere and service.
I ordered a Pineapple smoothie (35,000) and a Curry Roti (50,000) and was impressed with both. In fact, the smoothie was the best I've had in Vietnam! Usually when I ask for a smoothie with no milk/yoghurt/dairy it ends up being watery and too sugary. However Karma Water's 100% vegan version had a lovely creamy consistency (which wasn't due to coconut milk - I did ask!) and naturally sweet. The roti was on the small side, but perfectly adequate for a light lunch and was packed with flavour.
Eating here is dining for a cause too - in addition to actively promoting veganism and offering eco-friendly tours, they also use profits to help the needy.

Pros: 100% vegan, Dining for a cause, Healthy food

Fully vegan menu - Edit

We came here 3 times during our stay in Hoi An and enjoyed it every time. The owner is very sparing with words, but she makes some delicious food (the preparation takes a little while as the food is very fresh). The pho was great and flavorful, and their juices are yummy and not diluted with ice cubes nor mixed with sugar. Their fresh ginger tea is amazing for when you have a cold, it's very strong! We also had the turmeric rice which was delicious (and pretty much the same dish as the vegetarian "chicken" rice at another place) and the banana pancakes which were gooey and sweet and came with a lovely sauce that I'm guessing was made of maple syrup and ginger or something like that. The meals are a little more on the pricey side compared to some other local places, but I'm happy to support a fully vegan place anytime! Especially since they also offer cheap plastic bottle refills!!

Pros: Delicious healthy meals , Eco friendly

Best in Hoi An - Edit

We love Karma Waters. It has become our local. Love the spicy Vietnamese salad especially. Delicious food.
They do a bit of the 'faux' meat, & some dishes could do with more greens, but when you find the dishes & combinations that work for you it is great. Lovely staff. It was such a pleasure to find this restaurant. Highly recommend it. Best Vietnamese food we've had. So glad it is here.

AMAZING - Edit

Great food! I went here 2 times with my partner and would have gone more if it was cheaper. The food was amazing! While there we tried the veggie dog and burger as well as the spring rolls and vegetable noodles. The portions were a good size especially the spring rolls! The noodles were by far the best meal. We had them twice they were so good!
