Grilled wombok convert

Really enjoyed the Adobo Chic-Kanu and plan to return to try the other hot dishes. Agree with the other review that more hot menu items would be good, BUT they clearly make the ones they do have perfectly.

Excellent Food, Disappointing Service

They messed up my order and delivered only one bowl, when I ordered two.

I appreciate that mistakes happen, however, I placed the order at 12:30, it took until 14:00 before the first bowl was delivered, and after I complained to Shrewsbury Eats (delivery provider), it took until roughly 15:30 for my second bowl to arrive, because Shrewsbury Eats were unable to get in touch with the restaurant.

That's 3 hours total, which is far too long. We ended up having to change lunch plans. I do Appreciate that apology from George, but an apology is bare minimum after such a huge delay.

Food is excellent, but service in my experience was not great. I feel that 3 stars is a fair middle ground.

Pros: Excellent food, Bursting with flavour, Amazing presentation

Cons: Botched order, Slow delivery, Disappointing service

I am incredibly sorry for that order experience, it sounds very frustrating and we totally understand your annoyance.

Just to explain what happened that day. We were having some technical issues with our Shrewsbury eats printing machine, where orders are not translating on the screen to what they print on the ticket. However we have a new system where we look directly at the screen as apposed to the printed out tickets as they are not reliable orders.

Thank you so much for flagging your concern as we do really appreciate the help in being the best we can be!

Loads of flavours - recommended

This place offers a unique range of food, described as 'Pacific Fusion'. We tried the Adobo Chic-Kanu and one of their Poké bowls, the Ipu Hulu Hulu. Both dishes were superb, and offered a complex taste sensation. We accompanied our meals with some great cocktails and I can certainly recommend the Jungle VIP.

We were too full for a dessert but couldn't help but notice a number of people trying the Bubble Waffle and Ice Cream. I vowed to try it next time. It looked fabulous.
The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. If you're visiting Shrewsbury you need to visit this unique restaurant.

Tasty & healthy!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Mexican recommendation, and I didn’t feel guilty one bit afterwards! The cheesecake looking (not cheesecake but I’ve forgotten the name) was divine also!

Sensational and unique(?)

I haven't come across anywhere offering food like this in seven years of being a vegan... Well worth a return trip to Shrewsbury to eat again.

Brilliant place

What a fabulous cafe! Super location, vibrantly decorated with wonderful staff and fabulous food. The menu is extensive and very unique. Definitely no burgers here, just good food. My husband had a poke bowl while I had the bubble waffles. Delicious. The miso caramel was genius. Loved the mocktails too. My only disappointment is I live in Ireland so Shrewsbury is a once a year visit. I'm already counting down the days to my next visit.

Really unique vegan place!

This place is awesome, a restaurant with really vibrant decor and vibes. The food is amazing, great unique dishes you probably won't find anywhere else.
We got a load of small plates to share which was a perfect way to sample a bit of everything.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful too.

All vegan restaurant

I had a poke bowl - it was very tasty and filling. My companions were disappointed there weren't more hot dishes available as it was a cold day when we visited. I have now had two of their desserts that look like cheesecake and they have a strange aftertaste which I think is probably down to the gelatine used - a pity since they look delicious.

Pros: All vegan, Varied dishes, Friendly staff

Cons: Limited number of hot meals, Desserts look good but disappointing

You need to make a trip to Shewsbury to visit this phenomenal restaurant!

With some fine dining connections behind me, I was of the view that there should not be too many flavours in any one dish, to avoid them competing and overwhelming the taste sensations of the diner. That idea is well and truly laid to rest here. Everything on the plate is bursting with myriad flavours and somehow, it works beautifully.

How this place is gluten and nut free, I do not know. I do know that I have never been able to make TVP taste so incredible.

Not sure what else to say, other than I feel like my life was missing something amazing and I will be forever sad that I don't live closer.

Go visit asap. You won't regret it.

Taste sensation

Very welcoming staff, happy to recommend options based on preferences rather than what they are pushing. I tried a phoenix bowl. So many complimentary flavours in one bowl, every mouthful was different. Good textures too. I would happily recommend and look forward to another visit.

Something different and delicious

We travelled from Stafford (30 miles) to try out this place after spotting them on Instagram. I wasn’t disappointed. Bright vibes from the minute you walking, with fab service and an open kitchen. It was exciting to have a menu where I didn’t know what most of the things were. They know this, though, so bring out a sample of their PIPIKAULA to try and I was sold. It’s a Hawaiian dish usually beef! You can see the chef has a passion for plant-based food and that comes across and everything from the way it’s served to the taste and texture.! my partner had a waffle, Mexican style, which, if you’re not a fan of sweet things be warned, don’t put all the Maple dressing on! He was gutted, he sabotaged his own meal by accident! I had the pipikaula on my original poké bowl with EDAMAME BEANS, PICKLED CARROTS, PINEAPPLE, CUCUMBER, RED CABBAGE, SAMPHIRE, TAKUAN. Garnished with: PICKLED GINGER, SPRING ONION, CHILLI & SESAME SEEDS and opted for FOR COCONUT BLACK RICE INSTEAD OF SUSHI RICE. My partner had Fried Mochiko Chic-Kanu & bubble waffle with maple syrup, Mexican style (spicer) which was also epic.
For an early lunch, we had blood orange and cherry blossom teas, but my goodness the cocktail menu looked amazing too, lots of rum!
We’ll be back with our foodie vegan toddler soon or open another in Staffordshire please! A portion of the service charge goes to Shropshire wildlife trust as well!

Pros: Fully plant based kitchen , Gluten and nut free , Decent prices

Amazing....get the bubble waffles!

Loved everything about this place. The food was amazing, fresh and full of flavour, with interesting ingredients and beautifully presented. The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable about the dishes.
The bubble waffles with ice cream are the best dessert I've tried

Incredible Food & Service.

Loved all the food which was so original and really flavourful - especially the turnip cake with Sesame Mushrooms (sorry I can’t remember the proper name) which was on the specials board. Plenty of Staff who are all really lovely, very friendly and were happy to explain anything we didn’t recognise. They even donate 25% of their tips to Shropshire Wildlife Trust! Will definitely be returning very soon.

Pros: All vegan and loads of choice, Unique food with loads of flavour, Lovely friendly staff

Oh my lord, I've been waiting for this place my whole life. Positively the best vegan food I've had since a random vegan place we found in France in 2019. If you're vegan, veggie, omni or a full on carnivore this place is 100% worth a try. The tastiest of tasty foods. My new favourite restaurant

Can’t fault this place! Everything from the welcome, the decor, the food, drinks and staff were perfect. The food is super fresh, tasty and also feels healthy too. The owners and the other staff are the most friendly and welcoming people. The mocktails were incredible too, not just the usual too-sweet fruit juice concoctions. Can’t wait to go back!

Omg amazing

Kanu poke where have you been all my life?
Visited today and can't wait to go back (booking table for Thursday!)
Food was amazing, super healthy but still tastes amazing. Staff are so lovely can see how proud they are of this place and they should be. I can't rate this place highly enough. Wish I could give 6 stars

I have been to Kanu Poki a few times now and have been impressed every time by the amazing quality of the food, the cocktails as well as the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Shrewsbury has gained a 5 star restaurant.👍🌶🍍🍉

Colourful food and environment

Non vegan (don’t hate me ) coming In to any restaurant with friends who are level 7 vegans can be quite daunting but Kanu poke and the whole team were incredible, having an open kitchen was so fun to see, everyone worked fantastic with each other the chief came over and explained the menu absolutely beautifully so much passion in what he’s serving,

And all the servers going upstairs and downstairs were so lovely and energetic it was a delight to see, and so helpful throughout with cocktails, mocktails and helping us decided on choice of komboocha
With little tasters (pineapple and jalapeño )

And the food……. Just wow! The texture!!!!!! How was it not meat?!!! The Cow Kanu skewers everything was just exquisite the adobo? With Mango salsa was divine!!!

Thank you for a beautiful meal and experience definitely come again!

Unique, quirky and delicious

Had an amazing time at Kanu Poke! This is a very unique restaurant with such warm colourful vibes and incredible fusion food that is delicious and surprising. A great place to take your friends and family for a meal, to impress your date with a tasty cocktail, or to grab a delicious poke bowl on your lunch break. They are also ahead of the game for being environmentally friendly so an extra plus. Can't recommend enough for vegans and non-vegans alike. Kid friendly too

Wonderful food and octopus!!

Amazing and inventive vegan food, the space and the plates are full of flavour and colour. Would definitely recommend this place! Also really delicious cocktails and kombucha.

Deliciousness

I went up to visit some family and decided to try Kanu Poke.

I don’t usually write reviews but everything I tried was so delicious, the flavours were intense and balanced, and also very interesting. As a vegan I love to find different places, and for sure Kanu Poke is unique. I went with non-vegans who also absolutely loved it! And apparently they’re also gluten and nut free!

I very much recommend the waffles with ice cream and the delicious cocktails too, yum!

The place was also colourful and fun (check out the octopus!), the staff was very nice and we felt very well taken care of.

Can’t wait to go back up to Shrewsbury to try the rest of the menu.

Pros: Delicious food, Unique, Love the funky decor

Visually stunning delicious restaurant

Really tasty food and an amazing space full of colours and great music too. I had tofu satay, which is cleverly made with sunflower seeds so nut free. For pudding I had a bubble waffle with cherry blossom tea infused ice cream and a caramel sauce. It was all delicious! Good value, oh and excellent cocktails and a selection of locally made kombucha. I had pineapple and jalapeno which was very good.

A very pleasant evening

There are a lot of options for food in Shrewsbury and Kanu Poke is a fine addition. For starters I had the tofu sate, which was very delicious and I highly recommend it. I treated myself for the waffle with green tea ice cream for dessert which was very good. I would highly recommend anyone to go here!
