Awesome place! - Edit
Always love for the all vegan small businesses.
Read moreWe all loved the breakfast we had. Biscuits and gravy were spot on. Pancakes were huge and perfectly cooked. "Breakfast pizza bagel" was well excited and yummy. The burrito bowl was crazy tasty and very well put together. Pastries were spot on.
Service was friendly and helpful (it was our first time here so appreciate the explanations of food and beverages...multiple plant based milk options for coffee drinks!).
The coloring books and crayons for the kiddos really made us feel welcome. The staff is definitely family oriented and takes pride in this place. The true makings of a vegan institution for VA Beach.
If you're vacationing (like we were) definitely make the drive over. If you live down there. Well I would be a regular if I lived closer.
Tip of the cap to the owner and her vision. Keep doing it. You have an amazing place.
Pros: All Vegan!, Everything we had was delicious., Food was prepared with great care and vision

Worth the Trip!! - Edit
I’m vacationing at Virginia Beach and it’s about a 15 minute drive out. However the vibes of the place are so cute and relaxing. The employees are super nice and helpful, even giving out their inputs in the dishes. The whole cafe is vegan and have so many options. And the food and baked goods are even better. The menu is perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Don't believe the hype - Edit
It's a cute place with nice staff and good coffee but we were so disappointed by the food. 😔
Read moreFirst off, I ordered an iced latte but was given an iced coffee. The person working the cash register quickly fixed that though and the iced latte I got was delicious!
Then we ordered and asked for 2 pancakes each since we thought "classic" pancakes meant the usual griddle cakes. Nope, they're the baked kind and were huge. Extra pancakes are no problem but these were not light or fluffy. They were too hard to cut through easily, especially because there are no butter knives, only a fork.
Nothing was warm, my eggs were ice cold. The sausage, tater tots, and biscuits were all dry and hard as rocks.
We were ready to love this place especially since there are so many raving reviews. I didn't even mind the wait(~40 mins) because good vegan food is worth waiting for but I'd say if you're gonna go anyways then just don't get the Juju Breakfast Plate.
Pros: Good coffee , Wonderful staff, All vegan
Cons: The food

Like the coffee, Did you send the food back? Did you at least let them try to fix what you needed fixing in regards to the food?
Read moreelliemoss
No, you walk up and order so there aren't servers coming by asking you how things are so you can't "send it back." I would've had to walk up to the counter and complain about the food, after I'd already bothered her about the coffee. I'm a very nonconfrontational person and I was already past my limit.
Read morePlus we were starving and it was a 40ish minute wait for our food, there were only 3 tables, and they had people waiting. I'm not going to wait that long again or make them cook my food for me again when the kitchen is already behind. My coffee was different because they didn't give me what I'd ordered and it doesn't take nearly as long to make an iced latte. I don't see how they possibly could've fixed the food without making us something completely different and we didn't have time to wait another 40+ minutes and we wanted what we'd ordered!
It just didn't taste good, that's my opinion.
I'm sorry you didn't like my review but I was disappointed and I stand by what I said.

Really sweet cafe and bakery run by caring owner - Edit
I frequented Kahiau’s numerous times while living in Norfolk! The owner is so sweet and really cares about the food and her customers. I pre-ordered some bomb food for a Christmas dinner one year, and I also loved the sweets - and sides offered in the deli case

23 years vegan, some of which was spent in Hawaii where vegans are not considered other worldly. Victoria spent on the islands as well, hence the name and the decor which transports you as you walk in the door. I've been coming to this spot as long as I've lived in the area. She's catered for family functions and holidays, I bring out of town guests here; did take out in pandemic days..., etc. What I like best is the variety and change in menu which is vast enough to please everyone, vegans and non vegans alike.

Slow, dry, underwhelming, unfriendly - Edit
We ordered several items which were dry and underwhelming. The wait was longer than it should have been in an empty restaurant. The service was slow and unfriendly. No thanks.

Not Overly Impressed - Edit
Staff was nice but food was mediocre at best. Ordered the biscuits and gravy which were good but contains some spice that I could not stomach. The Breakfast Burrito bowl was good but very heavy and not a lot of tots at all. The brownie had a weird aftertaste and I got a few sandy-like pieces of something but was a good brownie. The meal was very average.

Tucked away goodness - Edit
FIRST OF ALL this place is cute as hell looks very unassuming from the outside but inside is very cute and rustic! Vicki and her staff are so warm and inviting she had such good advice to give about the area. But the food idk who said it was unimpressive they lied. I'm a picky eater and have sensory issues so textures are hard for me. Biscuits and gravy YUMMY it was lunch time but they weren't busy so I got to still have breakfast homemade raspberry ice tea that wasn't too sweet at all. Scramble was Vicki's own recipe super tasty tots were awesome too. BUT THE SHORTBREAD OMG THE SHORTBREAD!!! Lemon lavender was so tasty I wish I ordered more. Please go and check them out

Great food! - Edit
I tried the waffle sausage egg and cheese sandwich, the everything bagel sausage egg and cheese, and the smores cupcake. The egg and sausage are both made in house and they're both incredibly tasty and great textures. I liked the bagel sandwich more but I think that's just personal preference. The waffle was really good on its own but I just didn't love it as the sandwich. The cupcake was very tasty, as were the tots that come as a side. Customer service was excellent. I wish I lived nearby, this would definitely be a regular spot for me.

All vegan greatness - Edit
Wonderful find! This is a small all-vegan place that offers breakfast and lunch from 9 AM to 3 PM. They additionally serve alcohol and have many pastries for sale, most of which are gluten free. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. I was so happy with the biscuit breakfast sandwich, as all components including the biscuit, “egg” patty, and “sausage” patty were homemade (website says 98% handmade and never frozen). Accompanied this with a boozy espresso drink for a great brunch! Check this place out!

Calling all Pancake lovers - Edit
I love how this was small and intimate place. The two ladies there were super nice and patient with us out of town folks. They suggested the pancake sandwich and might I add it was amazing. It was quick and fresh. Pancake sandwich was two small pancakes, egg(chef made her own vegan recipe) sausage (chef made her own vegan recipe) vegan ham, and cheese. With tater (hash browns) on the side and might I say they were fried so good and crispy.

Felt like home. Very welcoming! - Edit
I have been vegan for about 4-5 months now so I’m still discovering places to eat. This way of life has changed me in so many ways. Anyhow, the place is really small but very inviting, the hospitality was off the chain and I felt like I could sit there and chill all day!!! The owner was by far the best and I felt like I have known her for years. My experience was great and I will be back to try other options!!

Friendly, clean, quick service. Menu should specify "all vegan" - Edit
I would have given 5 stars, but the way that the items on the menu were described, I thought that nothing was going to be suitable for a vegan. I'm glad that we asked for clarification and we were reassured that everything offered was vegan. The manager was very friendly and welcoming. Service and arrival of our order was fast and the food tasted great.

The breakfast burrito was so delicious, especially the queso and sausage. The owner makes her own version of liquid egg, way better than, e.g., Just Egg.

Love me some Kahiau's - Edit
I don't think I've ever walked out the door without spending $50+ on items to bring home. I saw another review that complained about the cake not being sweet enough or having enough flavor... I LOVE her cakes, *specifically* because they are not super sweet... so just keep that in the back of your mind if you're going there for baked goods, your satisfaction level may depend on your personal preferences! Vickie actually did my wedding cake. The rotating daily savory options have always been good too. Her coffee cake and french pizza are for sure my favorite items. I will say some of my omni friends have turned their noses up at the savory foods I've brought them, but my omni husband has enjoyed most items he's tried himself. Everything is made fresh so expect a bit of a wait, especially during peek lunch hours. There are a few tables inside but it's a small cafe, so I never make the assumption that I'll be dining in because there's often just no room to. Have never minded crushing the goods in my car though😉

absolutely delicious - Edit
me and a couple friends decided to have brunch here and were absolutely delighted by how delicious everything was. we got the an iced apple pie latte, an iced pumpkin latte, and an iced cran-raspberry latte which were all Amazing (my favorite was the apple pie bc my sweet tooth). then we got the waffle sandwich with tots, a spinach omelette, and the pumpkin yogurt bowl and Oh My God that sandwich is so good i couldn't help but stuff myself. my friends aren't vegan but one is a pescatarian and was absolutely in love with the yogurt bowl. couldn't even tell the difference if it was real dairy! my other friend is still a carnivore but dislikes eggs and was so surprised at how good the omelette was. we were so full by the end but couldn't help but pick up a coffee cake on the way out. absolutely love this place and am already planning on coming back for more!!

First of all, Vicky is a delight. Absolutely wonderful & so nice. I’m from New York, so this was a very special visit. Oh the options! A completely vegan spot with alcohol? Not something I can find in my hometown. I didn’t pay attention to price because almost everything is house-made. You can’t put a price tag on that. I would move to VA just for Kahiau’s!
