simple vegan Ethiopian food - Edit
this is a regular stop for me on my Berkeley restaurant circuit. The owner, Shattai, is super nice, and the food is consistent. I especially like the red lentils.

Fresh and tasty - Edit
I drove 35 miles to Berkeley to try this restaurant. Ordered the large plate with a sambusa side. The food came with a generous serving of injera and is likely the best Ethiopian food that I've ever had.

Best Ethiopian food! - Edit
Try the carrots and string beans! I told a friend that this was the best Ethiopian restaurant I've ever tried and she said she felt the same way.

Great food - Edit
The food was really great, better than other Ethiopian food I have tried before. However, the ambiance is lacking, with fluorescent lighting, and no server, just the cook, going back and forth taking care of everything, so that means the service could be slow.

Cons: ambiance lacking, slow service, not great neighborhood

Amazing place - Edit
Cozy little eatout. Courteous host and fresh food. The lentil curry and the spicy mushroom were mind-blowing. Kids loved the Injera. The host gave us refills for Injera. For a family of 2 adults and 2 kids under 8, a large plate, 2 sambusas and spicy mushroom were enough. We will definitely come back.

Big love for Kaffa - Edit
This is the perfect Ethiopian eatery. The lady who runs its, I ALWAYS forget her name, even though I ask her every time, is absolutely lovely, such a sweetheart, and got so excited when I first told her I was vegan. Once, I went four times within a week, I love it that much. The medium portion size is perfect for me ( I eat a lot) and your lovely hostess always makes sure you never run out of injera. I would do anything to be back in Berkeley again just for a plate of her food!

first time - Edit
This was my first time trying Ethiopian cuisine and I'm so glad I decided to go to this spot. Not only was the food amazing, like others have said it's run by one lady who is extremely nice and it really does feel like she is cooking dinner just for you. I got the large platter which comes with medium spicy red lentils, yellow split peas, gommen kale, mixed veggies and of course teff injera. Will definitely be coming back again soon.

Super good food and friendly owners - Edit
My fiancé and I stopped by right before they opened up for dinner, and the owner noticed us outside and opened a little early just to seat us! We got a really nice dinner for two outside of their usual hours, and had a really great time. The food was absolutely delicious (seriously, try the red lentils), and the lady running it was absolutely hilarious. We traded jokes for a bit before heading out -- absolutely one of my best dining.m experiences. 5/5, will return.

Unique flavors - Edit
We've eaten at many Ethiopian restaurants and this one was a bit different in the flavor profile, with a mix of spicy and mild dishes. We really enjoyed the meal and the injera may be the best we've ever had.

Delicious, simple and great value - Edit
Kaffa is delicious, well-made Ethiopian food in a really friendly environment. Went for dinner on the way home from work and was greeted warmly and seated immediately. We ordered the large plate ($12) that included four different items including spicy red lentils, sautéed kale and onions, and mixed stewed vegetables and we added on one each of the day's samosas ($2 each). The samosas had a perfectly flaky exterior and well-seasoned fillings and the red lentils were so good we said we'd ask for a whole plate of them on our next visit.

Small place, great food, friendly service! - Edit
Food is good and well-proportioned. The dishes are personal, you share the injera only, which worked well for my wife and I (I'm horrible at sharing).

Overall, a great meal in a casual setting! We'll make sure we'll go there again!
