Bad employee treatment - Edit
Hopefully they have new owners now but they did not always pay their staff what was due. They just stopped answering messages and wouldn’t pay their employees. They would also fire employees for no reason. When I no longer worked there regularly they asked me to come in to cover Thanksgiving weekend and I was sick.

nice location. Nothing on the menu that you cannot get else where

Nothing invocative or out of the ordinary
was what out of the ordinary was the $49 " meat offering "
why do they think people going to a vegan restaurant want a fake piece of meat ?
they are really missing the whole point and my business
Pros: good location
Cons: prices, who wants all the fake meat in a vegan restauurant, boring common offerings prices

A Vegan Fine Dining Experience: Highlights and Lowlights - Edit
For 100% vegans, this fine dining experience is worth the extra cost. The food is delicious and diverse. However, tonight I tried a dish I wouldn't order again: the filet for $49. While the texture was appealing, the flavor was lacking and became unexciting after a few bites—I truly wanted to love it! Unfortunately, they only had butter as a sauce option. The accompanying mashed potatoes were enjoyable, and I appreciated my mocktail, a fig espresso martini.

Awful food!! - Edit
I don’t know how anyone could give this place a good review, are these all family members?? If you like chewing on eggplant skin and eating charcoal briquettes (smoked mushrooms) then don’t forget your wallet because this place is way… way… overpriced for food I wouldn’t eat for free, I would love a nice vegan restaurant in Sarasota but this ain’t it, get a real chef if you open for business!!!

Fantastic All-Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Celebrated our 58th wedding anniversary at this wonderful restaurant. As vegans, it was delightful to know that we could order anything on the menu! All of our selections were absolutely delicious and even our non-vegan dining partners enjoyed the wonderful food.
Read moreThe downside of so many choices was that we definitely ate too much!!! The Baked Brie appetizer was superb! I had a pasta dish and my husband had the Love Loaf, both spectacular. Of course, we had to finish with dessert and although we wanted the Carrot Cake, our fine waiter had to inform us that it was so popular that they had run out, so we had the chocolate cake which was divine!
Pros: Food, Atmosphere, waitstaff

I have been here for my last two birthdays and all the dishes I have tried have been really amazing and full of flavor. It’s really nice to have a more upscale place to go to for special occasions that’s also fully vegan!

Read moreThe food. Was. Incredible.
I dined here with a 95 year old omnivore who LOVED the food. I LOVED the food too. We both had the creamy carrot soup. Depth of flavor won. We shared a wheel of Brie, and my grandmother, a SERIOUS cheese lover went bananas over it. It was delicious!! Then she had the smoked mushrooms which we both liked. I had the salmon and the flavor and flake of it was oh, so very uncanny. Out of this world, delicious!!! Got the carrot cake to go, and will report back.
Stop reading, eat here.
Pros: Food in general, variety of dishes and beverages, Lovely dining room to dine in. waitstaff staff

Fantastic vegan food and menu - Edit
Wonderfully delicious food with inventive options. The server was delightful despite being on her own to host, serve, and make drinks for the whole restaurant. I’d happily go back and try everything on the menu. I’d love to eat the French onion soup again and the miso eggplant and lemon cake. Yum!!

Everything was good, well presented and a treat. I shared carrot soup, shiitake escargots, Caesar salad, ‘salmon’ on bed of mashed potato. And carrot cake. All good. A bit pricey but a treat nonetheless.

Favorite fine-dining in Florida - Edit
We discovered this restaurant when vacationing in Sarasota about 9 months ago and it was first on our list to return to. After a total of 4 dine-in experiences (and sharing plates) I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu and there isn’t one thing I haven’t loved. The chef is a genius and creates an amazing variety of unique vegan dishes that are plated beautifully. If you are tired of ordering the gratuitous bean burger—the single veggie offering on many restaurants’ menus—you need to experience this 100% vegan restaurant. Some of my favorites: the mushroom “escargot”, “salmon”, lemon pasta, pesto pasta, cheese board, carrot soup, lemon lavender cake and the skillet cookie with vanilla cashew “ice cream”. We will definitely come back whenever we are in the Sarasota area.

Must try - Edit
Without a doubt, the best vegan food in Florida! Coming from Southern California, where the vegan scene is vibrant, I was blown away by the incredible flavors at this restaurant. Their vegan escargot is a must-try, and the lemon lavender cake is simply divine! The plant-based cheeses are outstanding—even my non-vegan friends were impressed. The only thing I’d suggest to elevate the experience is adding some background music, as the ambiance felt a bit too quiet for dining in. Overall, a fantastic spot for vegans and non-vegans alike!

A fantasticly artful and delicious experience - Edit
This is the third time we’ve been here, but the first time we have managed to take photos. We’ve just been too excited to try everything we ordered to remember! Ka Papa is a very European dining experience. Each table is filled with lively conversation and lingers for the evening without being rushed to turn the table over. All of the food is fresh, most is homemade in house and everything we have tried has tasted completely amazing. We’ve had the LOVE Loaf, Pan Roasted Mushrooms, Game Changer Plant Filet, Blueberry-Red wine sorbet, chocolate cake, a couple of the mocktails and the Liquid Gold. The service has always been fabulous as well. Mariam never fails to entertain! All staff are very knowledgeable about the food ingredients, often including their sources. We want to try their Sunday Brunch soon!

Beautiful presentation, nice atmosphere, and unique food selection, but expensive - Edit
My friend and I ordered and shared the creamy carrot soup w potato cream in the center (like mashed potatoes); the poached pear and 'blue cheese' salad; the warm 'brie' with mango chutney and balsamic drizzle; the pan roasted smoked cremini mushrooms with broccoli mash (like mashed potatoes, but with broccoli).
Read moreWe originally ordered the baked sweet potato, but ended up having the brie/chutney dish in its place because they were out of pre-baked sweet potatoes -- which was fine, considering the brie turned out to be delicious. They did offer to bake a potato for us, but indicated it would take 45 minutes to do so.
After we learned of the unavailability of the pre-baked sweet potato, we first subbed with the baked 'feta', but had already returned our menus to the server and had forgotten the 'feta' was served over watermelon... a fruit I simply cannot eat because it makes me deathly ill. It was my fault for not asking to see the menu again, but once the dish arrived and I realized it contained watermelon, I told the server that I wouldn't be able to eat it w/o having a "food poisoning-like reaction" to it. (My digestive system has never been able to properly digest watermelon for some reason.) I told my friend she could have it all to herself, but the server was nice enough to let management know about what happened. Much to my surprise, they offered to take it back, w/o charge... at which point we ordered the brie, as mentioned above. This earned them big points!
The server was very professional, personable, and attentive.
We also had the opportunity to meet who we believe to be the owner, and found her to be super friendly and appreciative of our business.
I also noticed everything (in clear view) appeared to be clean -- to include the lady's restroom.
Although I would expect gourmet food to cost a bit more than processed junk food and basic sandwiches/salads, etc, both my friend and I found the prices a bit steep.
In spite of the high prices, we both enjoyed ourselves very much and plan to return.

One of the best meals I’ve had - Edit
Tried many small plates and had the filet as my entree. Also tried the cast iron cookie and lavender-lemon cake desserts. Dishes were beautiful and the flavors complex. This is a step above places that are leaning on store-bought fake meat products. Service was great, as well

5 Stars All The Way! - Edit
The atmosphere is fresh and casually upscale. The food is absolutely delicious. Their appetizers are out of this world. Try the baked watermelon feta with rosemary and the cheese platter! And oh the desserts, don’t even get me started. My favorite is the sorbet… It is like nothing you have ever tasted before. The owners are so lovely, kind and caring people and it shows in their restaurant. They also have mocktails and an outside seating area. I think this just might be my favorite restaurant anywhere.

Some great apps, - Edit
August 17, 2024 - Two for dinner before the SRT show at 8 pm.
Read moreWe got single crab cake app and the shitake "escargot". These TWO items were fantastic!!!! My wife thinks naming and promoting something as 'cheese' or as escargot/snails that is really mushrooms is - dumb. So having said that she like the mushroom appetizer and we both love shitake and most all of the mushrooms
We ordered a Caesar Salad as this is one of my wife's go to favorite salads at a few Sarasota restaurants with obviously the croutons and the dressing and of course the copious cheese shavings and chunks making the main SAD diet ingredients and hyper palatable dopamine triggering aspect of it so enjoyable?? She wanted to see how a vegan substitute might fair? I had hope a thick shave cashew or parmesan vegan attack and a creamy thick vegan dressing might result, but the dressing was almost void of notice and there was no grated or shaved cheesiness at all. It was not really a contender for a very simple Caesar salad. Just a thin white wetness on the leaves.
For our mains my wife got the Love Loaf in a tomato soup as she tries to stay away from white potatoes because of her Lupus and other stuff. The presentation was fantastic and a host of fresh colors and vegetables was a wonderful site. The Love Loaf itself was just okay with a lot of ingredients and flavors but nothing stand out. The accompanying broccoli in her dish was distractingly sugary/sweet and the carrots almost a candied sugary item We just did not like that.
I got the Pan Roasted 'smoked' mushrooms. This was accompanied by a broccoli mash. The mash was ok. Like the loaf I am sure it has lots of good things in it but it was so processed and mashed it has no distinctive character or variety of flavors or textures? The 'smoke' or the cooking process for this was NOT to my liking. It just tasted like liquid smoke and very artificial and a bad taste in my mouth. The mushrooms were very nice and fresh but overall I would not try this again.
I think this has a lot potential but instead of trying to make substitution foods for snail, meat, barbecue, pizza and cheese eating folks maybe a few awesome whole food plant based minimally processed and prepared and mix entrees?
So with that I wanted to say in closing - this was NOT an inexpensive meal either? we cleared the cash register w/gratuity over $160 for two?
We will probably give it another go, but be very selective and ask a lot of questions before we order.
Pros: great small plate appetizers, Service was aweome, Fresh ingredients
Cons: a bit $$ for what we got., some 'meat loaf' and mash food items we not great, too sugary some broccoli and carrot items
