Absolutely delicious 😍 - Edit
We called in with no booking on an early Thursday evening and got a cosy table for two. I opted for the Laksa and my (non vegan) dining partner had the Kundan Kurry. Both dishes looked amazing and my Laksa was absolutley delicious. My friend loved her dish and was amazed at the flavoursome vegan food. 6 out of the 8 main dishes were vegan, the other two are vegan adaptable.

Great vegan food in Belfast - Edit
When I asked around for vegan options in Belfast, this was the most recommended. I really enjoyed my visit. The quality of the dishes on the menu is high and the food was very flavourful. I ordered three small plates which was very filling.

The Book of Jumon - Edit
A hugely popular place where booking is highly advisable. Saturday night in Belfast centre is quite an experience and the bustling restaurant was no exception. After a couple of half’s of Asahi at the bar we were seated and embarked on a South East Asian culinary journey starting with a spicy glazed tofu and cucumber dish followed by a Laksa and a butter cashew curry. Both were gently spiced and fragrant. The unexpectedly thick curry in the Laksa was dominant throughout and quite overwhelming but really enjoyable. Quite pricey at £77 including service for a starter, 2 mains, 2 beers and 2 medium glasses of wine.

Wish I could rate higher - Edit
As the title suggests I really wanted to like this place, but the pad Thai was simply bad. My friend had a non-vegan item, and a cocktail and liked it, but it was one of the worst pad Thais I’ve ever had (sour and spicy, not sweet or peanuty at all). I was talking to locals after and they said the pad Thai was the only bad dish on the menu, and sadly that was my experience.

Popular veggie place - Edit
Popular restaurant, arty decor, it was quite noisy. Most of the food was either vegan or could be made vegan. We had a selection of small plates including broccoli, dumplings, fried rice, tofu, green beans - all very tasty. There was one vegan desserts - a brownie with ice cream and raspberries.

Really enjoyed our food here. Unusual menu. Couldn’t choose between everything

There’s a choice of small plates @£9 which would suit a starter between 2. The mains @£17 were plentiful too.
The Laksa was lovely.
Excellent service

Very quick, tasty food. - Edit
Speedy delivery, must have pots of the stuff on the go, variation vegetables a little short in supply (I had one tiny wee button mushroom and one pak choi leaf). Their credit card machine added £6 to the bill for whatever reason, which felt a little scammy and for which they lose one star.

A lovely ambience in this fusion restaurant - difficult to choose what to have! Opted for dan dan noodles with tofu and mushroom which was delicious but very hot - standout was the fried broccoli starter with kimchi and miso mayo.

Cool vibes, good menu - Edit
Cool restaurant in Belfast city centre with an Asian themed menu. All dishes are vegan save for two which contain eggs and milk respectively but which are described as vegan adaptable. Nice service. Really enjoyed my starter - I had the KFB broccoli - which was delicious and my friend ordered the hummus which was a giant portion and tasted really good. Our mains were again generous portions but not as good as the starters. Not bad by any means but the flavour balance was a little off. Overall would still recommend for easy, stress free eating.

Very detailed dishes - Edit
Really detailed dishes. Reminds me a bit of fine dining with lots of tiny, tasty, colourful components. We had a small plate each as a starter and a large plate each as a main. I had the nori starter. It was like hot sushi. Really unusual and tasty. My jackfruit curry was tasty and more filling than I expected. The jackfruit was in with the rice and then the sauce was served on the side. Lovely to get tofu as well as jackfruit. The pickled lychees were a lovely contrast. Lots of vegan options to try. We found the acoustics noisy and hard to chat. I remember this previously but thought a Monday night would be quiet but it was nearly full. Great to see so many people enjoying meat free meals!
Read moreUpdate - 27/1/25 - still noisy but this time it was the music as it wasn’t as busy. There was a January sale with a few pounds off for two courses. So we had a starter each, a main each and a low alcohol beer each. It was £60 including the obligatory 10% service charge. It was tasty and beautifully presented. We both had gado gado salad starter which was delicious- one tofu cube, two sweet potato croquettes served with a well flavoured bean sprout, edamame and rocket salad. Our mains looked amazing but they were very spicy and lost all the
Subtle flavours. I had a katsu curry and he had a ‘cashew butter’ vegan dish. Both came with brown rice. There is a second branch now in east Belfast in a converted container.

Good food but poor value for money - Edit
Jumon is all vegetarian, Asian fusion. It’s a hipster type setting which had a lovely lively vibe and the staff were very helpful. The food was nice, I just felt that for the price there was very little substance to it. My dish was mainly noodles with a lot of sauce and a tiny bit of veg. My partners dish similarly was mainly rice with 4 cubes of tofu and a little bit of veg. The dessert was lovely though as were the starters but again these were very expensive for what they were

This place is amazing, the food was outstanding. We hadn't had much luck finding good vegan food until we came here! The portion sizes are good and it wasn't expensive.

Date Vibe + Delicious Spicy Food - Edit
Complex drinks, spicy fare, exquisite dessert. I almost passed on a drink, but glad I ordered one. The non alcoholic mixed drinks were a hit too. Tons of spice to them.
Read moreBe aware that they use V for vegan and VA for vegan adaptable, but not well. For example, the ramen said V but had egg. When I asked they said it can be made vegan by omitting the egg.
Overall great food, but quite spicy, including the Gadogado salad.
Also, while the restaurant says they close at 10, kitchen closes about an hour earlier.

Too expensive for what you get. - Edit
If you’re vegetarian or vegan, it’s likely you’ve had to learn to cook and it’s likely you’ve become a good cook. Maybe it’s because I can cook good veggie food that I found Jumon’s fare uninspiring. I had a curry, which consisted of brown rice, four cubes of tofu, a peanut sauce, a bread-like tuile and a garnish of thinly-sliced red peppers. It was nicely presented and tasted OK but wasn’t worth the extortionate £17 they charged. It’s effectively Asian street food at overly-inflated prices. The restaurant’s ambiance is nice but the food is far too expensive for what you get. To be fair, it’s not just Jumon that does this. It’s become the norm in expensive Belfast, where we’re now paying London prices to eat out.

It took me ages to choose what I wanted because everything sounded amazing, but I eventually went for the laksa and was not disappointed. It’s on the pricier side at £17 a dish, but definitely worth it!

Fantastic Food - Edit
This was our second visit to Jumon while in Belfast & it was equally as good as our previous visit.
Read moreThis time, I ordered the Jiaozi & Chaat me up, both "small". My partner ordered the Pad Thai which was "big". He had a kombucha & I tried the APA to accompany our mains. Again we were blown away by the flavours. The food was AMAZING. The depth of flavours in each dish was wonderful. If I lived in Belfast this place would be a regular haunt.
This time we decided to try a dessert. The dark moon was the only vegan option, chocolate moose, brownies & raspberry ice cream. The 'ice cream' was in fact a sorbet and had a high amount of ice crystals in it but that said, it was a great dessert.
