Not great

The food wasn’t great and quite pricey. There’s only one lady working there so I had to wait 1 hour for the food as she got distracted talking to other customers. She is lovely though

Cons: Expensive, Not best quality food, Long waiting time

Tricky to write a review

This is tricky as all the previous reviewers adored the food and restaurant. I do agree it is wonderful to see a proudly vegan cafe in a small hinterland town like Nambour. And the host is super friendly and kind and gives you massive portions and free dishes.

I love Thai food in particular and am very familiar with it so I am not sure what happened the night we went but both my dining companion and I found the food to be pretty bad. Most of the food was cold or lukewarm which made it unpleasant to eat. Some of the sauces had not nice tastes. They tasted like they had come directly from a bottle or packet, and not a good quality brand. One dish had a hard stalk of lemongrass so big hidden in the sauce, that when I unknowingly ate it, it got lodged in my throat. That was awful to experience and was very scary.

The host is very generous and the portions were massive. But it was all way more than what two people could possibly eat so we felt bad for the waste. We couldn't take any leftovers away due to travelling and to be honest, we did not want to eat it again.

I feel bad writing this review because the host was so lovely and generous and i always want to give vegan places 5 stars. I really hope it was just an off night. So I am giving it 3 stars despite the food because I think there should be some stars for being proudly vegan and for being a nice host.

Pros: lovely host, proudly vegan

Cons: watch out for the lemongrass stalks, food not to our taste

Such beautiful food

Had seriously beautiful nourishing food made with love from the lovely people at JR Vegan Thai Restaurant. Had freshly handmade curry puffs that were so delicate and delicious. The wonton soup was the best I’ve ever had, such a flavourful red curry and fried rice. These guys know how to cook! And such lovely people. What a treasure to find!!

Pros: Food was incredible , People were absolutely lovely

Amazing Honey Chicken!!

Cute little place and the owner/chef is so sweet! We got honey chicken, sweet n’ sour, and the papaya salad. It was unanimous between myself, my wife, and her mom that the honey chicken was the best! My wife had the sweet and sour. She enjoyed it but it was a little too hot for her. Her mom had the salad and said it was very refreshing. Worth a go and great to support a small plant based business.

Hidden gem in Nambour!

Cute little vegan Thai joint run by a lovely lady. Went two nights in a row and it was all delicious! If you miss sweet and sour pork and honey chicken and other classic Thai dishes, this place will satisfy that craving. The biggest thing to be aware of however is that this is a one woman show, one lady is doing it all, so wait times will be significantly longer than what you’re used to. Order well in advance and give her plenty of time! It will be worth the wait! Fully vegan places on the sunny coast are getting far too rare, so it’s important to get out and support the ones that are here😄

Nice food, generous portions, slow service.

I went to JR vegan on a Thursday evening for dinner, we ordered four mains and an entree. The entree took about 25 minutes to arrive at our table and the first of the main meals took around 45 minutes. By the time the last main meal arrived it was about an hour since we ordered and by that time we had to get it take away as we had a flight to catch. The restaurant wasn't busy, we were the only customers in there apart from a couple of take away orders while we were waiting, so I'm not sure why the food was so slow.
Having said that, when the food finally arrived it tasted great, the curries are very flavoursome and the serving sizes are really generous. I was really full by the time we eventually finished eating.
The restaurant looked like it's currently undergoing some renovations and on one table there was a paint tin and some brushes. Probably would have been better to put this stuff away before opening the restaurant for customers.
When I went to pay the staff were unable to accept a card payment and asked me to transfer money to their bank account, but we ended up just paying cash.
I would eat here again, but not if I was in a rush.
Hopefully as the business goes on they can sort out some of their service issues as there aren't many vegan restaurants on the Sunshine Coast and I would like to see this business do well.

Pros: Tasty food , Big portions , Decent prices

Cons: Slow service , Paint can sitting on a table

Great find in Nambour

Curry Puffs: Excellent. Light and not oily
Pad See Ew: Very nice with lots of fresh vegetables and plenty of tofu.
Coconut Rice: Astonishingly good. Best ever!
We were just dropping off someone at Nambour train station and I looked on Happy Cow. A great find! Generous servings and fresh. I would've liked a bit of heat, but the flavours compensated. Everything was delicious however, and the staff were lovely.
