Read moreJourney is a small cafe with outdoor seating and amazing food! We had the flatbread pizza and a falafel along with a very fresh salad. Then as if that wasn’t enough the sweet job that Sam started is a totally vegan ice cream shop! Amazing!

Okay we returned! Just had the Mac nut Mac and cheese! Got it to go and thought we would share. Wish we got two orders! Also tried the kombucha float! So delicious!

We've loved everything we've eaten here, and we've pretty well tried the whole menu by now. The macadamia nut soft serve and doughnuts at Sweet Journey, the sister location right next door, is a great way to end your meal.

We loved our dinner here! It was fun to try some new dishes/flavors we hadn’t had before. Both of our entrees (smoky mushroom doria and sweet & smoky pocket) were very, very good. We also had the flatbread as a side and that was simple but satisfying. We also loved sitting outside and watching the animals and people as we ate. Bonus- vegan soft serve ice cream is right next door!

We ordered takeout and enjoyed our meal on the beach. Everything on the menu looked fantastic, and we were very pleased with our choices -- a falafel collard wrap and pizza. The staff were very friendly, and it was a pleasure to find this vegan oasis amidst an otherwise seafood oriented town!

Was excited after reading the reviews on how great this place was. A good portion of the menu was marked off and unavailable. The food was good and tasted very fresh but it was pretty expensive and we were still hungry afterwards - good thing they have the best soft serve ever next door!

Went here in March 2021 and would recommend. Small place but trendy and cute. Not sure if it’s just a limited menu because of Covid, but we had the pita pockets a rice dish and both were delicious. Kind of weird that they serve hummus as a side dish for $4 but it doesn’t come with bread or anything to dip it with, so you have to get a separate order of flatbread for $3. Not a big deal, just strange (and the portion was tiny).

Best vegan cafe in Kona - Edit
Journey Cafe is an amazing find in Kona for any tourist, but especially for any vegetarians/vegans in the area. They have a couple different wraps which are all amazing, my favorite is the sweet and smoky. They also have a couple casseroles and some refreshing juices. All the menu items are a great price and I come by every time I’m in Kona. Highly recommend this cafe.

Loved everything we tried! Breakfast wrap with tofu scramble, açaí bowl, falafel shawarma wrap, avocado naan bread, vitamin C smoothie were all yummy but the Alfredo pasta was by far our favorite. You will NOT want to share the Alfredo! We ate here 3 times but easily could’ve gone back more. Breakfast is served all day. Whole food, plant based deliciousness made by the nicest people.

Best breakfast, lunch, and smoothies on the island! - Edit
We spent a week on Big Island and only visited one restaurant twice - this one! The food is out of this world. First time, I had the acai bowl with cinnamon coffee - both perfect. Second time, I had the falafel wrap and it was genuinely the best lunch I've had in ages. Thanks for such excellent food, guys!

Thankful to have the option of plant based, healthy food in the middle of touristy downtown Kona. Yummers to everything we had (sushi special, falafel wrap, and the fajita tacos). Friendly staff (scored a free pizza sample), and they clearly are passionate about healthy eating.

Read moreUpdate: I went back for the breakfast wrap/burrito. It was good but not how it was described on the menu? It had way too many peppers but was still good. It was described as something totally different and I don’t think there was any sausage in it so that was a big let down.
The Mac and cheese was also really good. I still highly recommend this restaurant.
The tacos were also not as good the second time. Not consistent.

Wow, the food is amazing and the staff is amazing too! We got the tacos, mac n cheeze and the açaí bowl the first day then went back today for breakfast ordering a Hawaiian smoothie bowl, French toast, and the breakfast wrap. Everything has so much flavor and it’s super filling and healthy. The people that work here are so accommodating and they even have some really great books to read while enjoying the food. Highly recommend.

We ordered the mac and cheese and the alfredo pasta and they were nearly identical in taste and presentation. They were both good, but seemed more like they should have been one menu item, so we definitely should have ordered a sandwich instead of the second pasta. The real disappointment was the cheesecake, which was super expensive, frozen solid.

Great food and great service. I had vegan, gluten free Mac and cheese. It was the creamiest and best I’ve ever had. We also had fajita tacos, vegan and gluten free. They were fabulous. Portions were huge!

Delicious healthy food made with TLC! The sweet potato pancakes were THE best pancakes I’ve ever had! Breakfast burrito was equally amazing. Mini falafel schwarma soo good! Everything is delicious! So grateful for this place and Sam the owner is sweet and authentic!
