Gikalo str. 7, Minsk, Belarus

Serves meat, vegan options available. Tibetan restaurant with a manager who speaks English. Vegetarian dishes are on the menu, and manager will point out vegan suitable choices upon request. Note: this place is not very vegetarian, it's just one of the few places around where you can find something. 5 minute walk from Ploshad Yakuba Kolasa metro. Open daily for lunch and late into the evening.

Good food but pricey, stroppy waiter not speaking English - Edit

This place was popular until two years ago, then something triggered decadence. We went on a Friday night, but were alone there with another couple. The place is quite big: there's a dining room for smokers and one for non smokers. The only waitress was stroppy, more interested in her mobile than anything else and answering in Russian to our questions in English, without making any effort to establish an effective communication. The kitchen works well though: food is freshly made and tasty. Prices are not cheap: we had 2 portions of rice, 2 curries, 2 salads, a beer and a coke for 57 rubles, that is 24 euro. In Minsk one can spend half that amount for the same quantity and quality of food.

Pros: Tasty food, separate rooms for smokers and non smo

Cons: Non vegetarian, pricey, unfriendly service

Favourite Restaurant in Minsk - Edit

There really weren't any other veggie options in Minsk so we tried this place out. We like it so much that we went back again, later on.

It really isn't all that far from the city centre-- I'd say it's part of the centre. Just a short walk from the main street (Nyezalyezhnastsi). The address seems to get mis-translated so you might want to try typing in "vulica Hikaly 7" if you're looking it up. It's a street that runs South-East down from the Jakuba Kolasa square/metro.

Anyway, the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The owner stands by the door-- he and the staff are very nice. The food is so well made. We tried the naan, noodles with veg, rice with veg, an Indian curry, mixed vegetables and dumplings. It might take a while to go through the whole menu as there are several sections from different Asian countries.

Good prices. We strongly recommend this place! Would have given it five cows, if possible.

Pros: Excellent selection, Actual vegan options!, Friendly staff/nice decor

Nice Indian food - Edit

The manager is an Indian, from New Delhi. Two pages of Indian vegetarian food on the menu (also in English), though not everything was available, actually. Their naan was fresh. Relatively large restaurant somewhat outside of the city centre, in an industrial setting. Metro is nearby.

Pros: Indian vegetarian food, Nice manager, English spoken

Cons: They also sell meat

Very nice - Edit

I liked it a lot. This place is richly decorated Indian style, music is also Eastern, suitable for meditation. Great choice of foods, a lot of vegan options. The food was great, and I will definitely come again. The only thing, it's not cheap.

Pros: food, decor, music

Cons: price

Jomolungma, Minsk - Edit

Nowhere near 100% veggie but you'll struggle to do better as a vegetarian in Minsk. English menu available. The manager is a very polite (unlike many staff in bars and restaurants in this city) and helpful guy who speaks English and will gladly explain which dishes are veggie, egg free, dairy free etc. Open from lunch and late into the evening 7 days a week.

* Ploshad Yakuba Kalosa metro - there are exits to both sides of the street that is the main street running through Minsk.

* Walk uphill on the main drag from the metro station and immediately take the 1st turning on the right. This is the street that Jomalungma is on.

* If you walk uphill on this street for about 5 minutes you will come to the restaurant located on the left side.

Pros: Very helpful manager, English spoken and on the menu, Open long hours 7 days

Jomolungma - Edit

The manager was really helpful. He speaks English and most of the staff does as well. There wasen't really any vegan options but there is rice and vegetables or noodles to chose from. Not a far walk from the metro but can be difficult to find if you don't have a map.

Pros: friendly

Cons: smokers

Stevie 22 Feb 2013 - Hi again Julio,

As per the dialog we previously had on this subject.

I'm a little confused that your review says that there aren't any vegan options available at Jomolungma. I ate there yesterday and was offered soup to start and a choice of main course dishes. I agree that it would be accurate to say that there aren't that many vegan options but of the places I have been to in Minsk Jomolungma is easily the best if you are a vegan vegetarian.

Keep well as always,
