Traditional food, average - Edit
Came here based on rave reviews. Food was fine but pretty one dimensional. The menu is very clearly labeled and it's a traditional okonomiyaki, so worth a visit if you want to experience this. Colloquially have heard Osaka okonomiyaki is better than Hiroshima.

Best Hiroshima Okonomiyaki - Edit
Would give 5 stars if I could, chef is very friendly and accommodating to requests. Vegan options are great (recommend spicy ramen noodles).

Just OK - Edit
I will never understand some of the rave reviews on HappyCow. My meal wasn't bad, but ultimately wasn't remarkable.

The BEST place in Japan - Edit
Sadly happy cow does not let me giving 5 stars, but I think this place truly deserves them. The food is so good that we came here twice. There is a vegan menu in English with many options - we tried all their mains and they were outstanding. Their vegan egg replacement was delicious. The staff is also so kind.

Amazing - Edit
We ordered the vegan Hiroshima okonomiyaki and the eggplant with ponzu. Both were delicious. We also loved the vibes of the place - small with a lot of character. They have a full vegan menu in English.

Tasty okonomiyaki - Edit
Small izakaya-style place with only a few tables and some crowded counter seating. They have a separate vegan menu with vegan okonomiyaki, the "jirokichi roll" (a sort of rolled okonomiyaki with mock egg), various sides, etc. They have vegan sauce and mayo.
Read moreI came here twice, and I really enjoyed it. There's a comfortable atmosphere, and I liked chatting with the folks next to me at the counter. The okonomiyaki is solid, and the cook seems to have put some thought into how to make it taste good (as opposed to just using the same okonomiyaki recipe but taking out everything that isn't vegan, without replacement). I found the flavour pretty comparable to my first time eating okonomiyaki many years ago, before I was vegan.
Note that the same grill is used for vegan and non-vegan options, so if this is a deal-breaker for you, avoid.
Prices are fair and the staff is friendly. It's quite popular so if you're coming with a group I would strongly recommend making a reservation.

Vegans go here! - Edit
The owner of 10 years decided that with more and more westerners being vegan he needed to have an offering for them and he’s nailed it!!!!!! I normally only go to vegan places but with none in Hiroshima had to try a combo place and wow I am impressed

Not great, it was okay - Edit
It would be my last option to go to out of all the other okonomiyaki options I've been to in hiroshima. It was okay, but I found it not as flavourful as the other restaurants that offer vegetarian/vegan options

SO GOOD!!! - Edit
We got in line at Nagataya which was right by our hotel and it was a 90 minute wait so we called Jirokichi and were able to make a reservation an hour later. I’m so happy we did. They have a whole vegan menu with okonomiyaki, some type of okonomiyaki roll with vegan eggs and cheese, and sides and vegan ice cream. The vegan okonomiyaki was so good and they had vegan mayo. The server and chef (owner maybe?) were so nice. So reasonably priced - 2000 yen each for okonomiyaki and 2 cocktails. Go here for vegan Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki! My partner is not vegan and also thoroughly enjoyed his food.

Flavourful vegan Okonomiyaki - Edit
I picked this place for my vegan Hiroshima Okonomiyaki experience after having compared reviews and having read that many vegan options closer to the Hondori shopping area were bland. I did not regret my decision.
Read moreThe place looks very casual from the outside but the sign is a clear invitation to vegans. It is not too large, providing only four or five tables next to a few bar-style seats right in front of the open kitchen.
The separate vegan menu as photographed by the others was not readily available on my table but I immediately spotted it on a central stand with more menus and condiments.
I opted for the vegan Okonomiyaki, which was prepared freshly and then brought to my table where it was kept warm by the hot plate. The chef, who was running the shop alone at that weekday lunchtime I popped in, also brought a small bowl of vegan mayo. It looked homemade and he made sure I understood that it did not contain egg or other unwanted ingredients.
The Okonomiyaki was not too large, just the right size for how filling it was considering the udon and oil it contained. The cabbage ranged between meltingly tender and crispy. The udon were of a pleasant texture, too, and ideally glazed by the Okonomiyaki sauce. The spring onions on top gave it an additional flavour kick. When adding the mayo, I even had a slight hint of the egg taste that would usually form a core part of an Okonomiyaki. Although I have never seen Kala Namak salt anywhere in Japan so far, the mayo tasted as if the chef might have added some of it.
Great experience that was well worth the short walk from the shopping area. Go there before it gets more popular and crowded!
Pros: Separate vegan menu , Chef very friendly
Cons: Accessibility on 2nd floor w/out elevator limited

Excellent vegan options and dining experience!! - Edit
Laid back and cosy okonomiyaki restaurant with excellent vegan options. Full of flavour and don’t feel like your missing out despite several ingredients being omitted from traditional okonomiyaki. Only wish I was staying in Hiroshima longer to try more - would give 5 stars if possible ☺️

Vegan Okonomiyaki ♥️ - Edit
My partner and I really wanted to try okonomiyaki and were so glad we found this place! It’s tucked away up some stairs, and once you’re in it’s a little cosy place. We asked for 2 vegan okonomiyaki and the chef made us the freshest most delicious meal! It’s kept warm on a hot plate on tour table so every bite is nice and hot. He also assured us that the sauce and Mayo he brought us was vegan and contained no egg. Delicious! Super reasonable price too.
