The best stinky tofu!

First of all I have to say that I am unsure if I visited the right outlet. I went to Smelly Boss Now Steamed Tofu. I couldn't find a stinky tofu eatery at the address mentioned on HappyCow and this outlet is also mentioned in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide (based on another review). I tried steamed stinky tofu (the hot option) with some glass noodles and winter melon ice tea. The hot option this time was really hot! So if you don't really like spicy food make sure to order it with less peppers (this is possible). The stinky tofu was super tasty. The best one I tried in Taiwan so far. The Thai basil really worked well with it. Was also really filling. I have to say I did not care for the glass noodles, I have had much better. No need to order it. Just the steamed stinky tofu will suffice. Make sure to visit this place!

Amazing steamed stinky tofu!

I totally mistook another place for this spot but the steamed stinky tofu is fantastic, very flavorful. Some of the best I’ve had after 4 weeks in Taiwan. Other dishes all look great too.

Stinky tofu might be an acquired taste but...

Nanjichang nightmarket is Taipei's foodie heaven and has remained blessedly fully local in character and committed to food, glorious food and only food. There are actually a few vegetarian places here that boast of specialty steamed stinky tofu, but Jia Chou Dang is a favourite because of the other items on the menu. Apart from the variety of noodles, the little dishes of appetizers are all created with care -- the cooked celery salad with a generous sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds can certainly convert any celery hater -- and the nutty rice, topped with salty mustard greens and chopped cashew is wonderfully satisfying despite the moderate serving size.
As to the steamed stinky tofu, it is flavoured with shiitake, endamame and Thai basil and comes in your chosen level of heat (from chilli). It does not demand that you think of it as a particularly nasty type of cheese, just a great source of savoury, tasty vegan protein!
