Good breakfast options - Edit
The tofu benedict they put together is great. Uses mochi throughout for great texture and chew factor, and the miso hollandaise is perfect.

Amazing food! Very vegan friendly! - Edit
60% of their main menu is vegan, 100% of their desserts are vegan! The food here is really good. We had the buns with tofu which was really soft and delicious. Also tried their Janken Roll which I highly recommend. Their tonkotsu ramen is legit. Super thick and creamy. Not for you if you’re not a fan of the really thick style tonkotsu broth. Overall, really good. The price is good and the wait staff are so lovely and accommodating. Let them know you found them through happy cow! She said she hadn’t seen happy cow customers in a while :)

Janken has an amazing range of delicious vegan options! We were very impressed. The steamed buns with teriyaki tofu were fantastic and the miso outclassed anything we’d had before. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and would definitely return.

Delicious! - Edit
I've been wanting to go to Janken for months and finally got around to heading over and wasn't disappointed! Clearly marked Vegan items and quite a few of them. I ordered the tofu steamed buns, the soy milk/miso vegetable hot pot and a side of miso soup and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Super lovely staff as well, will definitely be visiting more frequently!

Amazing Food! - Edit
A must visit when in Auckland! The food here is absolutely delicious. The service is fantastic and the staff are very friendly. Almost half of the menu is vegan so there are plenty of options to choose from. I ordered the tofu miso hot pot which had a lightly salted creamy soup filled with fresh vegetables, noodles, tofu and rice cakes. Do save room for dessert, the green tea cake is outstanding!

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Janken is a great choice for vegans and vegetarians as it has many options for those of us who like Japanese food. They even have vegan desserts!
Read moreThere were many veg entree options including miso soup. The steamed buns were the best I have ever had (and I don't normally like steamed buns). They were ultra fresh and I liked the miso shot tucked at the back of the bun which was a nice way to finish the last mouthful.
Lots of choices for the mains too. I had the eggplant main which came with some very tasty fried tofu. This was delicious and I would order this again if I came back. My companion had the creamy nabe hot pot. This was lovely but the taste was unusual for our Western palates. She liked it but said she wouldn't order it again. It came with a little burner and noodles too and looked beautiful. Only one piece of tofu though which she was disappointed about.
All their desserts are vegan and they had a sesame pudding on offer which was not on the menu. We were having dessert later elsewhere so skipped it but they looked worth trying.
The staff were lovely and very helpful. They understand veganism and were happy to change dishes (eg taking mushrooms out for my friend who can't eat them). They also have sugar free options on their menu.
Japanese food is not cheap due to the amount of preparation. Our bill for 1 entree and 2 mains came to $60. That is very reasonable for Japanese food I think.
It can be hard for vegans at Japanese restaurants due to fish stock or flakes being in everything. I have been to Japanese restaurants before and had to leave because they did not have one item on the menu suitable for me. So to go to Janken and have so many options was such a treat. I would recommend it.
Pros: lots of vegan options, helpful staff, vegan desserts!
Cons: not central
