favorite in Hanoi - Edit
I've explored many vegan places in Hanoi. This place remains my favorite. The cheesecake won me over. I still dream of it...

Nice food - Edit
Great ambience and interesting menu. I had the stew with red rice. Nice but a little salty. Friendly place. Would recommend it. Note they stop serving food 1 hr before closing time. Few people came just after and were turned away.

Good food.. - Edit
Very helpful staff and great ambiance with a varanda:) Food was very good! We liked specially the gnocchi and deserts. The ginger tea came weak in ginger, the pesto pizza was totally different from what you think about pesto.. it was sweet! Despite this we recommend it!

Good friendly food - Edit
We have been here twice today. We had the pesto pizza (not really what I was expecting but still nice - not really a western style pizza) and energy booster smoothie which was amazing and tonight had veggie curry which was good. The burger has to be the best dish though! A bit more expensive than other vegan restaurants we have tried in Vietnam but we thought it was worth it :-) the cafe is also quiet which is nice to not have so much noise.

Had the pesto pizza and the gnocchi, and it was very good! The atmosphere was nice but the staff was a little inattentive. Would absolutely go there again though!

Fantastic food! - Edit
My boyfriend, who is non-vegetarian, and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had a platter which included falafel type balls, delicious dark brown nutty flavoured bread, salad, Vietnamese rice paper rolls with tofu and the loveliest dipping sauces (3 of them, one being guacamole). We also shared the pizza which was cheese free (obviously), and packed with caramelised onion, brinjal and mushrooms. Super tasty food! We also had lovely soy milk cappuccinos which were nice. Nice seating area and fantastic service with a smile.
Read morePros: many options , delicious flavours and varieties , soy milk and chai lattes well priced
Cons: a little too much sugar in the caramelised onions

Bad coffee and average food - Edit
Ordered a soy cappuccino which was nothing like a cappuccino, super watery and horrible, especially for 45k! However, the iced coffee we got was quite good. Also had the vegan omelete which is tofu scramble with bread and salad. The scramble was very bland, the tomatoes in the salad were almost rotting, but the bread was good. Probably wouldn't go back, the other stuff on the menu might be better...

Vegan haven in Hanoi - Edit
Came here on my first night in Hanoi, and was so lovely to walk into a 100% vegan place.
Read moreMy dad (who is an omni) had the sweet potato and chickpea burger and loved it. I has the mushroom and tofu clay pot, which was really lovely, awesome mushroomy flavour.
The juice with turmeric was nice, slightly too strong of a turmeric flavour for me personally, and it was served warm (just a heads up).
And if you can't find it, look up for the signs, and then look for the group of men sitting in the entry way (they happily move for you to walk past).
Lovely decor here. Overall more expensive than other options in Hanoi but still cheaper than what you'd pay in western countries!

Wierd place - Edit
Ordered the "bean-me-up", however, no black beans were present at the dish. When I asked, I was told they ran out of beans and replaced with sunflower seeds without asking me 😐 Waiter did not know English, so I just kept the dish which turned out to be a small salad. Very expensive for what you get.. smoothie was ok. Burger was good but small.

Amazing Gnocchi, Cute spot! - Edit
Here right now, on the second level of a building and when it’s warm you could sit on the balcony and watch the people on the street while you eat. Inside I cute too, very chill. Free wifi.
Read moreHad a masala chai, incredibly delicious Gnocchi and the banana peanut butter ‘cheesecake’.
Everything was amazing, besides the cake, it tasted good but was still frozen.

Really tried but really dissapointed - Edit
Got here three times within 10 days because of the raving reviews. Either I got really unlucky every time or it’s really just not to my taste...
Read moreBurgers ok, fries coldish and lacking crunch
Lasagna ok’ish, but too sweet to my taste and lacking texture
Lentil stew/clay pot ok-good
Pesto pizza was barely eatable, no taste of pesto but rather sweet soy sauce.
On the side: masala chai and the juices are really tasty.
Pros: great tea and juices, good desserts
Cons: too expensive for the quality it offers, needs some fine-tuning

Not much the get excited about - Edit
Got really excited when I read the reviews from this place and also when we got there - it's a really cute place. We went for dinner and had the mushroom tofu burger and spinach pasta. The burger patty just tasted eggy and was really bland, and was more like a mini-burger with five cold potato chips. The pasta lacked flavour (and salt) and was just oily. The waiter also seemed to forget many people's drink orders, including ours. Because of this experience I would not recommend this place. If you do decide to come here I would try a smoothie or maybe a dessert.

This place is the cutest, and the food is bloody excellent! Plus the severs are also very cute! We ordered the Energy Buster smoothie - dear lord it is the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. We also got the braised tofu hot pot 🤤 and the spinach pasta. Both amazing, and whilst we were on a winning streak we got the banana peanut butter cheese cake, and it was also tops. A definite must visit! You can sit on their cute balcony and eat delicious food as the streets of Hanoi pass by.

One of My Hanoi Favorites - Edit
Jalus is one of my favorite restaurants in Hanoi. It serves great food, has a great little seating area with some outdoor balcony seating, and is centrally located.
Read moreThe vegan omelette was fantastic with a gummy texture I've never seen replicated anywhere else. It was hands down my favorite of the dishes I tried. The braised tofu and mushroom in clay pot was also pretty fantastic with great flavors and a phenomenal tofu. The bean me up bowl was the only dish I was a bit disappointed with, despite some recommendations in other reviews. The menu specifically points out the benefits of amaranth but the final dish includes maybe 2 tablespoons of it. I also found the portion of beans to be quite minimal compared to the other dishes, mostly containing spinach and basil which was fresh, but kind of boring as the major part of this dish. The only seasoning was a balsamic vinegar-type reduction which didn't quite fit the palate I was looking for- full disclosure that I am generally not crazy about sweet-tasting entrees. I wish the dressing had been a tahini or something different.
The juice I had; containing ginger, turmeric, pineapple, and other fruits, was incredible. I'm sure I'll be back to try some other meals soon!

Tastes like home - Edit
I really like this place! The people who work there are super friendly and the food is just delicious, for me it tastes like home! I had the vegan Omelette, which is actually more like scrambled eggs, but non the less really yummy and the bread that comes with it is great! It is healthy but very flavourful! Highly recommend! It is definitely a place where you can eat every day without feeling bad about it :)

Food and service were not very good - Edit
I ordered the potato curry and my girlfriend the pesto pizza, and we ordered the spring rolls on the side. They said many entrees and ingredients (i.e., the vermicelli in the spring rolls) were missing in the kitchen.
Read moreThe spring rolls arrived first and were good, but they were missing the vermicelli. Then my curry arrived and I had the time to completely finish my meal before the pizza came a good 20 minutes later. The curry was okay but not exceptional - my girlfriend ate some of it while waiting for her pizza. We asked the staff what was going on with the pizza and they said they were sorry about the delay so they offered us a free juice, which was nice of them! We had the time to receive our juice and drink it all before the pizza finally came... and it unfortunately did not taste good, we could not finish it. We told the staff and they offered to take off the pizza from the bill and said they were sorry.
Overall not so good experience in Hanoi!
Pros: The pineapple juice was very good
Cons: They were missing many ingredients on the menu, Difference of 20 minutes between the two meals , The pesto pizza did not taste good

Delicious - we'll be back! - Edit
My girlfriend and I ate at Jalus twice. The first time we had the gnocchi and a potato curry. The gnocchi was especially delicious - such wonderful flavours and one I am sure to order again at some point! The curry was rather sweet for our taste, but still very hearty and yum. The next time we got one of the platters, it was good value for the amount of food we got. The dips were especially nice. And spring rolls were delicious! There's a nice drinks selection and the waiter is very friendly and smiley.

Fantastic Vegan Restaurant and Cafe! - Edit
Love this place so much we came back twice! The mushroom clay pot is delicious and the energy buster smoothie is sooo yum! The staff are super friendly and the menu is very clear. It is more expensive than the local street food but that is so understandable and I would happily pay their prices for the food and drinks. Downside is that there are mainly western style meal options as opposed to Vietnamese, but we didn’t mind this as we have eaten plenty of Vietnamese! There is also a small balcony overlooking the street which is nice for a drink!

Jalus caters more western style, with some Vietnamese dishes starfruit salad, banh chuoi, banh xeo. There are other places that caters Vietnamese style Loving Huts.
