Such tasty food!

A really lovely place with lovely vegan food- serving a mixture of Vietnamese and European! The omelette was amazing with very generous portions whilst the clay pots were also delicious and very flavourful. The chocolate drinks were also v tasty along with the chocolate fridge cake!! A must go in Hanoi!

Glad we visited

We came in for a late lunch (having found so many of the other v places in Hanoi closed) Place not overly busy, 3 other customer already eating. We were greeted quickly & given the menu, in English. Ordered a smoothie, an espresso banana smoothie, veggie gnocchi & veggie curry. The drinks were delivered quickly & came with a bamboo straw. The mains came soon after, piping hot & in warm dishes. Both mains had plenty of flavour, and although the curry wasn’t spicy it was very tasty. Glad we gave this place a chance as we enjoyed the meal we had. It’s not the cheapest in Hanoi, but great location near the lake

Food is bad

We ate here a few times trying multiple dishes and all of them were not good. The burgers were dry and bland and so were the roasted sweet potato’s. Some of the stews were a bit better taste wise but were served cold or ridiculously salty. I couldn’t recommend this place to anyone for food. Drinks were much better. It’s a shame because it really wouldn’t be difficult to make the dishes taste amazing.

Pros: Everything is vegan, Love the balcony seating area, They do delivery on grab

Cons: Food is really quite bad

Yummy food

Really enjoyed our food, the setting is lovely however service was pretty slow. And compared to local prices it's pretty expensive

Wild mixture

The restaurant is very comfortable but the food we had was very mixed. The salad and bowl were quiet good (but nothing special) the lasagna was really bad (I don't know why it was called lasagna) it was basically sauce with sauce and mash and tasted too sweet. The service was all right. But it is not as expensive as 3 dollar signs.

Not great.

Had to go through to the kitchen to get anybody to seat or serve us.
Food was bland and generally fairly poor.

Pros: nice to sit out on the balcony, lots of vegan choices

Cons: food not first rate

Okay food

They have some really interesting things on the menu... Though while the food we tried was good it was not as amazing as we had hoped... The lasagna was way too sweet for my liking.

Don't come if you have high blood pressure...

or like tasty food for that matter.
I was looking forward, but got hugely disappointed. Amongst four people we had 5 dishes, all were either over salty to a degree that it give you hypertension, or so sweet it gives you diabetes...
Too harsh? Don't say you haven't been warned.

Pros: Staff seems friendly

Stylish restaurant with tasty and creative dishes

We enjoyed a silent and refreshing lunch break in the stylish and calm restaurant. The menu offers a broad choice of vegan dishes.

Pros: Various vegan dishes with a creative touch, Modern wooden interieur, Silent, free WiFi, and power sockets

Food with a view

You can sit outside and watch the busy street beneath you. Very extensive menu, friendly people. Loved the ‘scrambled eggs’ and cake!

Awesome place, a lot of dishes! The tofu scramble is a bit too raw, but good

A resort of quiteness and health in the middle of the ancient quarter!

Amazing vegan food and drinks, most of the waitress are deaf and the profit goes to social enterprises. Go there and enjoy!

Good chai, decent food

Up on the second floor, went for breakfast. Vegan omlette and mango pancakes both very good, but the best thing was the chai.

Loved the curry!

I had the spicy potato curry and it was easily my favourite thing I’ve eaten in Vietnam so far😄it’s fun to sit at the balcony and people watch, it wasn’t very busy when I went in but maybe that’s because it’s only Tuesday. Will definitely go back and try some of their other dishes. I did have the baked sweet potato as a side and wasn’t a fan, I think it’s mostly my fault as I didn’t realise it would be different to the sweet potato I’m used to from home but this one was much harder and not as sweet, the sauce that came with it was really tasty though😄I spent 195k for two drinks, curry and sweet potato, pricier than most local Vietnamese food but that’s too be expensive I was quite happy with the price

Pros: All vegan , Delicious curry !, Not too expensive

Average

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the food here, it’s just very average. We had the lentil stew and chickpea burger. The lentil stew was fine and came with what looks like rye bread, but unfortunately it tastes exactly like white bread only with a few seeds thrown in. The chickpea burger was small and dry, but ok with the sauce. It said it came with sweet potatoes but it’s actually a different root vegetable that tastes like a mix between parsnip and white potatoes.

Had the chocolate cake for dessert which was tasty, but a little dry (a warning to anyone with nut allergies is that it comes with flaked almonds on top which is not mentioned on the menu!!)

Priced just under 400k for all of the above as well as 2 smoothies, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Plenty of veggie & vegan options!

Stopped off here for a chai latte & a small snack coconut ball which was tasty.
Loved sitting out on the balcony a few storeys up looking over Hanoi - although it was a little noisy!
Friends of mine tried the gnocchi & some cheesecake & said it was delicious!

Cons: Quite pricey

From a tofu scramble snob

I find that tofu scramble is one thing that restaurants always completely screw up. They never make it better than I can make it at home. This is not the case for Jalus. Their vegan omelet(just tofu scramble) with bread and salad is stellar. Best I’ve had in any restaurant anywhere.

I also like their little blended shakes.

They lose a star because I’ve had to leave 3 out of the 6 times I’ve gone there. Once because they were closed during posted hours, once because they were completely out of food. Once because they ran out of the vegan omelet(one hour after they opened). Haven’t ordered anything else.

Oh, the omelet is also the cheapest actual meal on the menu, which makes it a bonus that it’s so delicious.

Pros: All vegan, Perfect vegan omelet(scramble), Near old quarter

Cons: Run out of food often, Slow service

Pros: Nettes Ambiente, Nettes, ruhiges Personal

Cons: Qualität der Gerichte ist für den Preis nicht okay

Didn’t live up to expectations

After reading reviews of Jalus I was excited to try the food but unfortunately my experience didn’t live up to the expectations.

The restaurant is easy enough to find. It’s up a set of stairs down an alleyway but it well signposted. When I got up there, there were no staff in the restaurant as the kitchen is across the other side of the stairs. Someone soon came in and showed me to a table.

I ordered mango juice, water and the quiche. The quiche wasn’t available so I chose the BBQ sweet potato burger. They forgot to bring me the water and the baked sweet potato which came with the sweet potato burger was dry and hard.

When I finished my meal, I waited over 20 minutes of the staff clearing other tables and disappearing for a long time, until I had to ask for the menu to order desert. They brought the menu over but still didn’t clear my plate.

I wanted the carrot cake but unfortunately they didn’t have that, or the cheese cake. So I went for one of the only two options; the chocolate cake. Still they didn’t clear my plate until they brought out the chocolate cake (and finally water after reminding them). Sadly the cake was tasteless :-(

Pros: Vegan only menu, Lots of options for food and drink, Cool decor

Cons: Poor service, Food quality not great

Vegan pancakes

The mango pancakes are very good. Taste slightly different than pancakes at home, but I was happy to find that. I ate there a few times. The other dishes were either too salty or just good.

I recommend avoiding the toilet though. It smells so bad and there is no soap. Kind of concerns me that they are probably cooking with dirty hands

Pros: Pancakes

Cons: Toilet is disgusting

We came here twice

Both times we ate here the food was pretty good. There was the same guy who seems to work mostly on his own with the customers, he's very nice and speaks good English.
We had the lasagne - I wouldn't have called it lasagne as it didn't even taste like there was pasta in it and the sauce was way different but what ever it was, it was really tasty haha. And also the hot pot with rice- also very good, nice to have brown rice for a change.
The other time we had the omlet. I've seen comments about it not being nice but we both really liked It! Good size and flavourful, also really liked the bread on the side.
Only thing I didn't like was the sweet potato, super dry and hard to eat.

Pros: Friendly English speaking staff, Fair price for portion and western food

Cons: Sweet potato was a let down

Vegan old town

Located in the heart of the old town the location for this restaurant is good. The food was nice but just felt like something was missing. The spicy curry was very sweet and the vegan omelette was just mashed tofu which albeit was nice but not an omelette. The vibe of the place is nice but the staff area is through a separate area so found it hard to get staff attention unless they were bringing food in to someone else. The staff speak English which is great. It wouldn't be my favourite place but I would go back if in that area.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Staff speak English

Cons: Hard to get staff attention

Great base

I went here many times during my 4 days in Hanoi. The food is reasonably priced with large portion sizes, some dishes better than others. The potato curry was 10/10 as is the hot chocolate, however the lasagna was a little odd but still filling, maybe a 7/10. Hot chocolate was beautiful but not very creamy and the mango pancakes were yummy and filling 9/10.

The ambience is calm and the place smells nice, a quiet little sanctuary from the busy streets. The toilet is a little dirty but still usable.

Pros: Entirely vegan, Reasonabl prices and portion sizes, Clean and eco friendly place

Cons: Some menu items a bit hit and miss
