From a Carnivore

The food is the focus. If I lived closer, I'd dine here multiple times a week and I'm a meat eater 😎

Pros: Tons of vegan options , Menu labeling vegan vs vegetarian , Inexpensive

Go-to restaurant for delicious food at low prices

A lot of options to choose from (only a few dishes are not vegan) and the prices are super reasonable! Quality is great and service is good. Can get busy as it is a very popular place, so would advise to book in advance! Been there on several occasions and will definitely visit again :)

Pros: Lots of options to choose from, Very cheap and tasty

Fab South Indian in North London

We went for a late dinner and nabbed the last table. The menu is extensive and almost all vegan, and the door is delicious and very reasonable. We over ordered by at least one dish, and including corkage for four beers spent just £30 plus service. It’s clearly a popular local restaurant with a lively atmosphere and friendly service. We’ll be back for sure :)
*BYOB and cash only, cash point only a few doors down

Pros: Almost all vegan, Inexpensive, Friendly

The best food around

Not a typical British curry house. Much more authentic Indian food and interesting ingredients. Majority of dishes are vegan and those that aren’t are labelled ‘non-vegan’. Recommended dishes: sarson de saag (mustard greens); the aubergine and okra curries; aloo vada; Bombay aloo; samosas; cauliflower pakora. Be aware it is cash only

Pros: Value for money , Lots of vegan options, BYOB, sit in, and takeaway

Local authentic food

We were visiting family in London from the US and wanted good Indian or Pakistani food that was vegan. We were told to come here as most everything could be veganized and that it was the "best curry in London". It lived up to the hype and was well worth the trip. It's a humble local that is also BYOB, but the food was absolutely delicious and everything we ordered was cooked vegan. This restaurant is highly recommended, but worth noting that it is cash only.

Best cheap Indian around

I've been coming here for years, and I'm always impressed by how cheap it is for such great vegetarian Indian cooking! It's been even better since they've clearly marked their menu with which dishes are NOT vegan (i.e. the majority are)! BYOB from the off-licence across the road (more of an alcohol emporium) is the cherry on the cake.

Love it

Great food and pretty cheap. Staff are friendly and everything is clearly marked if it’s vegan (most things are).

Hit and miss but cheap. Can serve dairy without warning

The food is quite good, but can be very oily and is sometimes a bit hit or miss.

You have to specific that you so not want dairy with quite a lot of dishes, even ones that are labelled as dairy free. For example they cook the Masala Dosa in ghee and serve it with a dairy yoghurt dip. This is labelled on the menu as dairy free. When I first went here I queried the dip and whether it was yoghurt (they said yes) and they asked if I was vegan, and proceeding to remake my dosa. Oops!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Oily and can serve you dairy without warning!

Incredible

Have been on many occasions to the sister restaurant which I understand has now burned down(?), Jai Shri Krishna. Jai Krishna though retains the same excellent pricing, friendly service and genuinely outstanding food.

For friends who are not Indian - try the dhokra and the patra, which are rarely served elsewhere.

All the food is really well flavoured, and it's never been a disappointment. I'd recommend you order maybe 2-3 things in total per person (inc sides, breads, rice) and share, depending on how hungry you are. Portions are pretty generous.

Pay in cash only and byob as I'm sure others have mentioned.

Pros: Cheap, Incredibly well spiced/flavoured, Excellent range including dhokra/patra

Cons: Cash only payment (but nearby cash point)

GOOD CHEAP AND FRIENDLY

I was so excited to come here - the food is so good and it feels so homely. The menu clearly marks non-vegan items and is so extensive for such a little place! I felt spoilt for choice and really struggled to make a decision - luckily they serve a thali (your choice of either poori or chapati) so I didn't have to pick. The curries were gentle, fragrant, and comforting - I also got poori and they were honestly the perfect texture. I was dining with a non-vegan friend so gave them my yogurt and burfi, but it would have been even nicer to have a fully vegan plate😄I probably could have requested but I was honestly too distracted savouring the menu. Definitely coming back next time I'm in London, so pleased to have eaten so well for under £10!!!!

Pros: Huge selection , Relaxed atmosphere

Cons: Steps to toilet

Nice food

I went for lunch here with a colleague and we were the only ones there. Took a bit of hanging around at the desk for the staff to notice us. As per the Turnpike Lane restaurant we have to write our own order, but that's useful for ensuring everything is as you want it. The food is nice - maybe a bit oily but very good value for money. The service is a little bit surly, but I can live with that!

Pros: Quite cheap, Decent portions

Cons: Not the most atmospheric restaurant

Among the best Indian food I've ever had!

I can't describe how happy I am when I can read and choose from the whole menu. The food at Jai Krishna is seriously among *the* best Indian food I've ever had, at least in Europe - and their restaurant wall features an interesting trinity of portraits: Jesus, Krishna, Corbyn. I approve. :)

Pros: Awesome tasting food!, reasonable prices, intimate atmosphere

Delicious South Indian food

I usually go to Jai Shri on Turnpike Lane, but this one is great too - pokier and noisier, with younger staff (I like the family vibe of the Turnpike Lane branch), but equally as good value with a huge food selection, most of which is vegan.

Highlights are the jeera aloo, kidney bean rice, thali, masala dosa, and chana masala. The poori are delicious too.

Pros: Price, Menu, Taste

Cons: Noise, Room

Restaurant is good, but don't try to order via phone

I think the food at this place is really good. It is a vegetarian restaurant that caters for vegans. Prices are very fair.
The only downside here is that if you try and order via phone in the evenings you never get a positive reply. I once was even hung up upon. If you want to eat here, just go to the restaurant and sit down.

Pros: Good food, Big vegan selection, No meat

Cons: Rude on the phone

legendary North London authentic Indian

This place has been around for an eternity and it's reputation around here is well known. Original and unusual Indian dishes with hardly a Korma in sight. Just lots of proper food made with love and reverence. They don't serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own which can be bought from the amazing offy over the road-Jack's, which has a huge selection of exotic beers.

Great, no frills restaurant, outstanding food

Been going here several times after friends introduced me to this little gem near Finsbury Park a few years ago. The food is outstanding, items that I haven't seen anywhere else before. As long as you don't mind food cooked in or with oil. Best thing is to order a variety of dishes and share with your friends. The plates are inexpensive and since things come out as they are ready, it's a good way to eat. The restaurant doesn't have a license to sell alcohol but you can bring your own (not that unusual in London). There are a few shops close by. It can get busy so you might want to book ahead.

Pros: Fantastic food, Great value, No frills

Cons: No frills (table cloth, matching plates), Can get crammed & noisy

Authentic Indian Experience!

I've been to Jai Krishna on several occasions now And most recently, following a trip to India which made me realise how authentic the experience and food is.

All food is vegetarian and lots vegan. I recommend the thali, it's plentiful and you can request no yoghurt and sweet.

Pros: Great menu choices, BYO, Authentic cuisine (thali, dosas etc.)

Cons: slow service when busy

Still the best veggie Indian place in London

Been going here for years and it still does the best Indian food I've found in London (yes that includes Rasa in Stokey and the Drummond St buffets!). Like the cheap style, pity there's no vegan sweets.

Pros: excellent food, good value, nice vibe

Cons: No vegan puddings, Can be noisy
