Groupie Love but the Soul is Missing... - Edit

I went to Jackfruit Cafe to get some good vegan soul food. Being from NYC, I have missed some of the good Vegan restaurants that are around Washington Square park.

A written note was posted next to the doughnuts stating "open at 3:00." Looked at the menu and saw tacos, burritos and a soul bowl.

Where's the soul food? When they did open, they were only selling tacos. It seems like this spot is popular by name only because most of the few customers were eager to talk with the owner and was willing to pay $4 for one very small street taco.

I actually went to Jackfruit Cafe to eat, not be a groupie.

Wasted trip...

Pros: Small portions, Pricey, Vegan

Cons: Disorganized , Poor Service, Pricey

Yummy & Fresh - Edit

First of all Miss Angela is back there working her butt off!! When my husband & I arrived here around 1:30 Sunday afternoon the line was out the door! I knew it was going to be delicious as I smelled the spices & fresh food being prepared.

The atmosphere was not your usual Vegan/Hipster feel but it did feel familiar. I grew up in this neighborhood so I remember all the places that came through this address.

Our food was good & as we waited I looked up some reviews & even spoke when one of the young guys who was assisting her that day.

He said she’s doing this by herself & everyone demanded that she would stay open! Of course she needs to stay open!! Healthier flavorful jam packed options for the community is what we need.

We did wait about 30 minutes for our food but I knew it was fresh & Miss Angela never stopped moving.

My husband & I will continue to support her as long as she stays open!! I pray she finds good folks to help her out too ❤️❤️✌🏾👸🏽🙏🏽

Pros: FRESH & healthy food

Cons: Nada!! Go girl go 👍🏾🙌🏾✌🏾✊🏾

disappointing - Edit

I LOVE jackfruit but couldn’t have any because it’s all spicy. ALL! Everything! No, not everything. The things that aren’t spicy are overly sweet. Maybe that’s what soul food is? This whole experience is a disappointment.

Pros: lovely service by the owner

Cons: very long wait at 2 on a Saturday.

Absolutely terrible experience!!! - Edit

I arrived this morning to order a soul food platter and burrito. The woman told me it would be 30 minutes for some of the items on the soul food platter so I decided to get the tacos instead, because she said the tacos were ready. I also saw the jackfruit and items for the tacos on display a la Chipotle. There were four people waiting for food before me. 15 minutes went by. 30 minutes went by and after about 45 minutes, one person got their food. Closer to an hour later (in total), the three-person group received their food. I was next! The woman brought out the food and gave it to people who came after me. After waiting an hour, my food was given to people who came in after me! I was furious and let her know that was my food, the exact order!! She didn’t offer a apology, made excuses that she was by herself and directed that I be patient after already waiting an hour, an hour without any updates from her! I’m extremely disappointed and will never, ever go back to this place!!

Pros: None

Cons: Extremely long wait, Terrible customer service

cisonit4rl 26 Feb 2018 - I had the same experience and the owner offered nothing but a snarky "we are a very busy restaurant." Only 2 people were there.

First time visit - Edit

The jackfruit cafe is actually inside the donut shop. I was a little concerned because it's a donut shop and a vegan cafe in one. After speaking with the owner and watching as she cooked and prepared my food my worry went away. She was very nice. I was looking forward to trying the Jackfruit Soul Platter but it was only tacos today. I was okay with that cause I would've tried those my next visit. The food was really good and I loved the pinto and I normally hate pinto beans.

Pros: I don't have to try far to get a vegan dish and th, you can get lotto tickets

Cons: small parking lot.

Amazingly healthy, delicious, real food that is thankfully vegan - Edit

Truly humble, this fabulous new addition to West Adams/ Mid City is hiding in an unassuming little donut shop.
I am extraordinarily blessed to live in a neighborhood with close proximity to this gem of an establishment. So many vegan spots seek to emulate meat with unhealthy, highly processed foods that leave me... empty.

Jackfruit Cafe is truly unique. The food is phenomenally delicious, with creative use of spices and flavors, cleverly sneaking loads of fresh fruits and veg into things that are drool inducing.... while being served in traditional and easily recognizable dishes such as "meat"loaf and carnitas-
dishes that are reminiscent of things our mothers and grandmothers would have made (if we are lucky enough to have them.)

And!!!!!!! huge bonus!!!! They have the craziest most extremely delectable smoothies I've ever tasted- from India to Italy to LA, no joke- you can die happy after you've tried the smooth blend of bliss- Im talking the kind of creation that will justify your faith in the goodness of humankind. Ask for the pineapple and jalapeno blend, you can thank me later
There is absolutely nothing else like Jackfruit Cafe, anywhere.
Worth driving the 405 from OC to LA- what more needs to be said!

Pros: Delicious, Healthy, Easy Parking

Cons: There should be like 200 more, in every state
