What a lovely day! - Edit
We didn't really know what to expect of the day, as these things can often be hit or miss, but this was definitely a hit!
Read moreAfter an easy train journey from Sendai, we were met outside the produce center by our interpreter, Sally. After meeting Sato-san, the manager, we were driven to a local shiitake mushroom farm where we learnt about shiitake and how they're grown, and were able to pick our own mushrooms. We were then driven back to the produce center for the cooking lesson. Everyone was so attentive about what we could/couldn't eat as vegans and made sure our food didn't contain dashi or other animal products. We then all sat down around a delicious bowl of hot soup and a cup of genmaicha, before heading out to look at the migratory birds on the local pond. We finished the day with a spot of shopping at the produce center itself.
They run different classes and workshops depending on the season too.
Pros: Getting to meet and spend time with local people, The warm, warm, warm welcome we received , Easy commute from Sendai on the train
Cons: Absolutely none!
