We came to Izenberg’s because they have a dedicated vegan menu. The three of us ordered the breakfast burrito with home fries (asked them to put the potatoes inside the burritos, which they had never done before, but graciously complied). Big hit. My friends also ordered the buckwheat pancakes with bananas (eaten there), and I got latkes and a Mother Earth wrap to go home. The pancakes were also a big hit. One assumption you can’t make is whether they’d have vegan butter for the pancakes and non-dairy milk for the coffee, but they did (oat milk). Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient. No vegan desserts (can pre-order, though). Talked to the owner, who has vegan daughters and had to figure out what to make for them. I’m guessing that’s why there was such a good selection. If we lived in the area, I’d definitely be back.

Great food and service - Edit

Love that there is a separate vegan menu. We had the breakfast burrito with hash browns, it was great, Franks was at table and it was amazing. We also tried the Buckwheat Pancakes with Bananas and it was wonderful like a Banana Nut Muffin.

Friendly service and dedicated vegan menu - Edit

My visit was on August 29, 2023. Because I’d read that they may no longer have the vegan menu, I called ahead and was assured that they do. When I arrived, I received a printed physical copy of the vegan menu matching the website: so all seems good on that front.

I had a cup of tomato basil soup and the tofu Benedict. The soup was good, but there’s a nearby restaurant with a somewhat better one. However, the tofu benny was excellent. The sauce was a bit clumpy looking, but everything tasted great. The English muffin was nicely crisped under the sauce, and the tomato added a nice touch and really boosted the savory flavor of the tofu scramble and sauce.

Service was super friendly and helpful. Will have to come back and try some of the other vegan options!

Fine for vegetarians; vegans need to be cautious - Edit

I had no issues with my meal but my vegan friend needed to ask questions and the answers didn’t quite add up. Either the owner needs to understand what a vegan is or there needs to be more training for the waitstaff. Which ever it is, vegans need to ask lots of questions prior to ordering.

My companion ordered was supposed to be vegan and, although she could not say for certain it was not, she had suspicions it was not. However, it was an item that butter would be used and the butter brought out was dairy butter. I found that really off putting. She also asked PRIOR TO ORDERING pancakes if they had maple syrup and was told they do. The syrup brought out after her meal came was that sugar garbage fast food pawns off as syrup. Upon pointing that out, the waitress said it was maple syrup and just kind of shrugged things off. Another menu item would have been ordered if she knew this restaurant did not have maple syrup. The only option she had to use was jelly and that also is the sugar crap fast food places pawn off.

I would eat here again. I will support any place that has offerings other than a typical snooze fest salad, baked potato, everywhere else done pasta, and fried gross crap as a vegetarian offering. But anyone who is a vegan needs to be wary. Anyone ordering food that would require maple syrup, bring your own.

Hi there! I’m so sorry your server wasn’t up to par with vegan knowledge. Noted, and will go over this with our staff - so thanks for the input.
We have a vegan menu and everything on it is vegan. I’m very knowledgeable about veganism, as my two daughters are vegan. We have vegan butter available. Clearly, your server needs to be educated.
