This place IS AMAZING! - Edit
Incredible Vegan Izakaiya! No other place like it
Read moreFood is absolutely amazing. A lot of Chinese and Japanese flavours. Couldn't believe it was Vegan. The soy karage was super chicken-like.
A little small however, very satisfied. 👌👌👌10/10.
Pros: Amazing vegan options that you rarely find., Closest vegan chicken like vegan food I've tried
Cons: Quite small. Might have to share table with others

Not amazing - Edit
If there were better options around, I’d recommend them. They obviously don’t know how to run a restaurant. Could look so much better... and taste better.
Read moreFried chicken or karage was good. Dumplings were unworldly not good. Much better options in Tokyo. If looking for dumplings, don’t go here.
Price is fair, but I don’t know how they’re going to last very long with the price, taste, and atmosphere. Get it while you can...
Pros: Price, Location
Cons: Atmosphere inside the restaurant , Taste

Go for the karaage - Edit
English below👇
Izakaya Masaka is an ALL-VEGAN izakaya (Japanese-style bar) that in the new Shibuya PARCO building. We had heard from a fellow activist that the karaage is the best ever, so we were excited to try it.
Before 4:00 pm, it seems you can only order the gyoza or karaage teishoku (meal set), so we got one of each. The teishoku comes with rice, soup, and a veggie side dish.
The gyoza was just so-so. Nothing special about the taste, and kind of thin. But the karaage truly was something special. Crunchy on the outside, deceptively chicken-like on the inside, with a faint taste of ginger. YUM!
So the food was good, albeit a little pricey, but I must admit I wasn’t a fan of the ambience. I know they’re going for an old-timey Japanese look here, but the bright lights, talk radio as background music, and stark walls didn’t make for the most relaxing atmosphere. Your mileage may vary.
Pros: Great karaage
Cons: Atmosphere is kinda lacking

Delicious food, we had the gyoza and the spicy karage. The soy meat was so juicy and flavorful. The restaurant is in the basement of the shopping complex.

Absolutely loved it! - Edit
Cool, quirky place in basement floor - was some sort of draw queen game show next door when we were here. Tried the cucumber, soy miso mince, gyoza and fried chicken. It was all delicious. Plus the shochu jasmine tea drink was amazing! Go here!

Great Szechuan karaage - Edit
Went for dinner, and course 4 dishes:
Read morePass on the gyoza - 650 for 6 and neither filling nor tasty (even with extra sauces and seasonings).
Soy mayo karaage was a bit heavy and wet, but still quite good.
Szechuan karaage was dry and crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Very nice flavour.
Basil sorbet was minty and refreshing - recommend this one too contrast the oil of the fried soy meat.

Fried 'chicken'! - Edit
Really good kara-age, with several sauces to pick from. Took some non-veg friends here and they were all very surprised by how tasty it was. Gyoza was also great.
Read moreThe rest of the food was average.
Pros: Individual items quite cheap
Cons: They add up quickly

Amazing - Edit
We just had a plate of the fried soy with the teriyaki sauce and it was incredible! A bit confusing at first because it seemed like you could only order the set with rice and sides but in the end we managed to just order the soy which comes on a plate with some cabbage. It was absolutely delicious!

Best deep-fried soy I’ve ever had - Edit
My wife and I went to Masaka for a late lunch today and we both had the combo set (karaage and gyoza, here’s with black vinegar sauce and mine with spicy Sichuan sauce). I’ve had soy chunks at several other places, and it’s often small and a little on the dry side. This was hands down the best I’ve ever had, quite thick and juicy. The spicy sauce was very very good, spicy but not so much that it took over the flavour. My wife’s with black vinegar sauce was a little too sweet and I didn’t enjoy it this much. The gyoza was average, not the best, not the worst. The sets came with a very flavourful curried soup, some picked veggies and rice.
Read moreAll in all, it’s great to know this place is right in the city centre if I find myself hungry on the au home.
Pros: Karaage was chunky and juicy, Spicy sauce was excellent , Soup was very flavourful
Cons: Gyoza was average, The black vinegar sauce was too sweet

Happy to see a vegan izakaya - Edit
The vegan karage/fried chicken was really good and the set was pretty affordable. The sauce used was a little heavy, but overall I really enjoyed it. Soup included with the meal set had a strong curry flavor. Good, but surprising when expecting something like miso.
Read moreThis place uses a lot of plant/soy meat, so if you don’t like meat substitutes keep that in mind.
The other foods we ordered were also good, but quite simple and definitely are suited as little bites to eat while drinking. “White pasta” was quite oily but still had a good flavor. “Red pasta” also tasted nice but didn’t look very appetizing.
Overall a nice experience, reasonable prices for what you get, and it’s nice to see vegan food expand into other restaurant types. Definitely worth a try!
Pros: Really good fried “chicken”, All vegan , Overall good flavor
Cons: Limited seating space , Relies heavily on meat substitutes

Tiny cozy traditional atmosphere.. - Edit
Simple service, easy to order for lunch ( - 16h), tiny place, lovely cozy atmosphere. The texture of fried chicken is like so real that I almost can’t eat but the taste is great. Little bit pricy for me. I’d love to come back at Izakaya time.

Loved every mouthful, fluffy rice, beautiful gyoza, and wonderful soup. Reasonably priced and filled me up. Only in Tokyo for a few days but already thinking about going again. In the bottom floor of the Parco building. English menu available and understood that I had a bit allergy. Thank you!

Yay vegan izakaya - Edit
They have their own vegan plates, their own hashi, japanese and english menus, red cups, fast service, and I really liked their gyoza and the cucumber dish. The karaage, potato fish, and menma were also good. And they had one beer choice, a big glass bottle of Sapporo. The jasmine tea was good too.
