Cracking - Edit
Really great vegan Japanese restaurant that serves a lot of small dishes, all delicious. Best to go with some friends to try many different dishes. All flavors are very defined and balanced.

Authentic Japanese taste - Edit
Authentic Japanese taste, but entirely vegan. Small venue, small menu but neither will disappoint you. My mum and I had the udon and the bento. Delicious and reasonably priced.

Lovely food - Edit
Book ahead for a table. Very nice bento boxes. Would advise to get sushi and no warm dish as those are a bit underwhelming. Cosy atmosphere. Nice staff.

Just ok, expected more - Edit
Japanese food is always exciting to eat, so me and my gf wanted to check out this all vegan Japanese restaurant. The menu looked exciting, and the restaurant has this native Japanese wibe.
Read moreI was not actually aware that this was a tapas restaurant, so I found it nice to be able to try out many different selections in the menu. In total we ordered 8 courses which we shared. The food was overall average, but I expected a bit more from this restaurant. Many of the courses didn’t have that much flavor, and was quickly forgettable (even if the presentation was nice). My favorites was the calamari and curry, but the ramen and gyoza was nothing special. The staff was nice though, and the food was served quickly.
Pros: Many options in the menu, Nice looking restaurant
Cons: Bland taste in most of the courses, Many small plates, so 3-4 courses pp

I come here a lot but... - Edit
I work nearby and it is convenient for me to eat here. It is comfortable, staff are friendly but the food is not great for the money that they charge. However, it is edible and if you like simple food with a lot of soy sauce, it is perfect.

Cannot recommend this place more highly. The new menu is even better than before, especially with the sharing, small plate style. Especially loved the oyster mushroom calamari, edamame and aubergine. Highly highly recommend!

A small place close to Kings Cross Station. Pictures speak a 1000 words. Am always impressed, have brought many people here and I always get the Benton box. Worth every penny.

Good vegan Japanese food - Edit
While the food here will never be mistaken for shojin ryori cuisine, it was good. Not the best Japanese food I've ever had, but it was nevertheless very good. The tofu was fresh and flavorful (like tofu should be--not like most of the stuff available in supermarkets) and the staff was kind. The wait was looooong, but I'm glad we were able to get a table eventually.

Itadakizen - Edit
Like another reviewer below, I left wondering if I ordered the right dishes. My partner and I ordered a number of things from the menu and were unimpressed by nearly everything. The only thing worth writing home about was the vegan meatball dish, but even that fell apart before I could grip a single meatball in my chopsticks. The ramen was not great and tasted just as another reviewer below described...like a pack of ramen noodles with veggies added. The vegan "chapche" was flavorless and needed more veggies and seasoning. My partner was so disappointed with the food that he didn't even finish his entree and opted to go to another restaurant and order a new dinner. Again, maybe it was an off night or we ordered the wrong dishes (see pictured), as it appears people love this place based on the reviews. The staff were super friendly...I just hate writing a negative review about the food here, but it is what it is.

🤔 Think I might need a second trip to make a fair review - Edit
A lovely little venue and food was fresh and cooked to order.
Read moreI has really high hopes for the food and it was ok. Not sure if it was just the food choices. Maybe I should have asked the staff for recommendations. Open for a second visit. The food was good but lacked a certain wow factor.
Recommendations from what we ordered:
Miso glazed Aubergine
Vegan Calamari with Tartar Sauce
Bibimbap
Ok but not special
Tofu steak (but this is the best of the worst)
Veggie Gyoza
Spicy Ramen (not far from a packet of microwave noodles with some fresh vegetables added)
Updated from previous review on 2021-05-25
Pros: Reasonably priced, Miso Glazed Aubergine
Cons: Ramen Noodles like packet noodles

My first visit to Itadakizen London was relaxing, and welcome. - Edit
My first visit to Itadakizen London was relaxing, and welcome. The staff was welcoming, professionally at my service, and flexible to my needs, when I asked questions. You could spend hours in there feeling the peaceful atmosphere, eating nutritious and delicious food. I found the retreat to be welcome from the busy wet streets on the day, and family enjoyed the restaurant also. It’d be nice to visit again when I’m next in the area.

Delicious - Edit
Went for lunch with my children (6&2). We had shoyu ramen and bento box, and everything was super delicious. My kids loved it so much we had to order another bento box and some extra spring rolls. And then we had pancakes with ice cream for dessert!! Can’t wait to try the evening menu.

Worth the wait - Edit
I've been meaning to come here for so long and I was not disappointed. I feel that a lot of the Japanese food on offer in the UK comes in the form of supermarket sushi, and as such people often expect the food to be loaded with salt and sold for a quid - this is not that kind of place. Food takes centre stage over pushy customers here. Grateful to the staff for kindly offering me and my friend a table for a quick dinner even though they were fully booked (make no mistake, this place is popular) and already had a queue at the time of opening.
Read moreThe food itself looks simple, but is beautifully prepared and rich in flavour. I loved the small additions in the sushi - the little dab of sesame paste here, a gentle sprinkle of micro herbs there - and the broths used for the noodles were so lovely. The toasted sesame in my friend's udon was gorgeous!
It is a shame that this place is small, but it does at least mean that food comes out fast and fresh. We have already made plans to return.
Pros: Beautiful food, Attentive staff
Cons: Not accessible due to stairs, narrowness

Real japanese cuisine, and vegan! - Edit
Superb quality, faithful to real japanese style. I had a lovely evening. The portions may seem small, but I consider them enough, we were full and had to take away leftovers. The atmosphere downstairs is wonderful. Calm and cozy. Will definitely repeat if I go back to London. Completely worth the price.

A little disappointing - Edit
The food is nothing creative, it is all very simple, nothing special, and the quantity is small compared to the price. On other hand, I had two experiences not good: when I booked I asked for the possibility of a nice table because it was a birthday dinner, they did not consider it and it was obvious that there were more interesting tables that our.

Not bad at all - Edit
Went on a Saturday at 6pm and had booked a table which was a good decision as the place got super busy very quickly. It‘s a small space with some additional seating downstairs and it feels cozy and authentic. Staff was super friendly. The menu is not too big, which I really like, and it was still hard for us to choose as many items on the menu sounded delicious. I was a bit confused that they had Bibimbap and Kimbap on the menu, which normally you find in Korea, but we tried the Bibimbap and it was good. We also went for the Tendon (very good, loved the Tempura) and some peanuts and Okara Balls on the side. We had lemonade and a coke, not a fan that they serve the drinks in a can (you get a glass too, but not very environmentally friendly). It is a bit pricey considering the size of the portions, but I like it when you‘re not super full after a meal. 10% off when you pay cash. Toilets available downstairs. 8 minute walk from King‘s Cross Station.

Full of flavour - Edit
The sushi was quite bland but all the other food made up for it! The miso soup, spring rolls, fried tofu and udon noodle soup were all delicious with great flavours. The service was super quick, we got our food almost immediately. Pretty pricey but will definitely come back to try more of the hot dishes!

Nice little find - Edit
Really tasty food (particularly the okara balls and the vegetable tempura). Cheesecake was nice but a bit on the sharp side and a slightly grainy texture.
Read moreStaff were super friendly and very efficient - also genuinely helpful, for example when my friend dropped her chopstick, the waitress overheard us talking about it and got us a new one without us even having to ask!
The seating was quite crampt (we went on a Saturday evening and hadn't booked in advance so were squeezed onto the last free table). Also it was a bit on the expensive side, considering the portion sizes given.
Overall, I would definitely reccomend giving it a try if you like Japanese food! Having so much choice as a vegan was pretty cool 😊
