Service is C- but I'm here for the ramen

You can sub tofu for any meat on the menu. They only give you like 5 pieces. The food was very good overall. But we sat for 15 minutes without any greeting, server walked past at least 5 times and said nothing. Finally walked up and said " you know what you want" uuh ok.

Very Nice Staff; Minimal Vegan Options

Not sure why Issei Noodle was approved to be listed on Happy Cow. There are only two vegan dishes on their Vegetarian menu: V2 (Vegetarian Vermicelli) and V5 (Vegetable Yaki Udon). The other "Vegetarian" dishes have either oyster sauce or fish sauce. When I pointed out to staff that these other dishes are not vegetarian, they did not believe me and to date have not changed their menu to clearly indicate what is plant-based and what is not. Ma Po Tofu is not meatless either. They serve a dish with tofu and then put pork in it too!! What's up with that?

On the upside - all food that I've eaten here has been freshly prepared. Plated food is colorful, steaming hot, and well-presented. Tofu tan-tan is vegan and very delicious! Waitstaff and kitchen staff hygiene is good. All staff are friendly, helpful, and professional. Staff are especially mindful of frequent customers' needs. For example, I prefer water without ice. When staff see me come into the restaurant, they bring me a glass of water without ice. Staff know enough about the menu to describe accurately the ingredients of a dish (the menu does not provide complete information) and give recommendations. Sometimes dishes can be adapted to be made meatless. Service is fast, despite the busyness of this restaurant.

Pros: Freshly-prepared food, Hygienic kitchen & waitstaff, Friendly

Cons: Menu should clearly indicate vegan options, More vegan options needed on menu, Staff do not know what "vegetarian" & "vegan" mean

Options available but you might need to ask!

I love Issei Noodle and am a local and come multiple times a week. They have a veg section of the menu and many items throughout can be made vegan upon request. One thing I recommend is to make sure you double check about certain sauces.

If you get the Spicy Mayo Tofu, the Tan-Tan sauce is meat based but they do have tofu Tan-Tan available upon request.

They have a veggie Pad Thai, but if you want a vegan Pad Thai they can do that but I always remind them "no egg".

Pros: Veg section on the menu, Can easily provide substitutions

Served me meat.... Once....

Cultural barriers exist with some servers. The menu is vegan friendly and they will offer to substitute tofu into anything you want. One time I went and tried to sub and was served meat, yucky! The food is very good and I'm not going to hold that one time against them, but be careful and be sure to explain clearly what you want.

Pros: Delicious, quality food

Cons: Served me meat once

Really enjoyed our experience

Our waitress was super friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable in explaining what non-vegan ingredients were in anything we were unsure of. Not to mention the food itself was delicious! We look forward to eating here again.
