Unique Jamaican Restaurant in Kansas - Edit
It’s really hard to find Caribbean food in Kansas but island spice restaurant is a hidden jewel located in Leavenworth KS. I really appreciated the vegan options on the menu. They have a nice variety of vegan selections. I had the Rastafarian bowl and it was large and delicious. Needed a little more salt but that is bc I like salt but it was flavorful. I really like the cabbage and chickpea stew that was apart of the meal. My husband had the steam vegetables with rice and peas. He said the rice was not good but gummy and didn’t remind him of a true Jamaican rice and peas dish. However we both enjoyed the plantains bc they were fried just right. Also had a true Jamaican beverage called Sorrel and it was very sweet when just the right amount of ginger. Over all this spot is nice, great atmosphere and good food. Just a little more salt and they would be perfect. Also l love that this is Veteran black own establishment!
