Serves meat, vegan options available. An owner-operated neighborhood cafe with vegan choices on a changing menu. Be sure to specify vegan. Sources local produce. Reported closed January 2022.
The place is okay. We were there on a Saturday for lunch. Checked the menu online and saw several vegan options, including tofu tacos etc. Arrived at the restaurant at 1 PM. We were told, after a 45 minute wait, that they were not serving lunch until 3 PM. WTF? They apparently have an extended brunch menu that goes until 3pm. It is much more limited than the lunch menu advertised on the website and doesn’t have salads or sandwiches. The four of us ordered the tofu scramble and house potatoes. They were OK but not worth waiting 45 minutes for. The menu says in that “there may be shell contamination”. not sure what that meant until we noticed that the home fries had bits of bacon in them, so we ended up not eating them. The place has potential, especially for Greensboro, but I can’t whole heartedly recommend it.
I wanted to love this place more as it's near where we are staying, but we just weren't impressed. It's a super cozy spot with sweet people, and it's great that they have some intentional vegan options. They're just not great. We tried the black bean burger, which was very bland and completely falling apart in the bun. The tofu Reuben was better, with a nice sauce, but it was just a giant slab of tofu. It'd be better if they cut them into slices or something.
Overall, it's not a bad place to end up with omnivore eaters, but it's not a place I'll be running back to either.
We had the whole grain scramble and the coconut tomato soup. The tofu was well marinated and tasty and the quinoa, black eyed peas and sweet potato was great as well. The soup was also very tasty. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area.
They have a good tofu scramble and some other options available. They are willing to cater to vegans, just specify you’re vegan! They also have outdoor seating.
Found this restaurant on Happy Cow and it was great! There were maybe half a dozen vegan options on the menu. The place is small and crowded even at 2 pm on a Wednesday. Friendly staff, quick service and delicious food. We had black bean cakes, french fries, and tofu & sweet potatoes over quinoa with greens & black eyed peas. Homemade sesame vinaigrette was really really good. Will definitely eat here again!
Good vegan choices, nice neighborhood joint - Edit
I am a Greensboro native and didn't know about this place until recently! I was looking for a place with vegan brunch options on Father's Day, and I'm glad I found the Iron Hen. The tofu scramble was more cubed than scrambled, but it was delish. I would return to try their lunch or dinner offerings.
