All Vegan Oyaki - Edit
We first stopped by their branch by Zenko-ji Temple (not listed on Happy Cow) and got the pumpkin, miso onion, shimeji, and mixed veggie oyaki. Everything was so delicious that we went back for two more of the shimeji ones. Then we visited the Nagano station branch and had one more of the shimeji and one maitake. Really really recommend! So good! They also sell them frozen in some souvenir shops around, even saw them in Karuizawa. Get some, if you have a chance!

Open and fully operational as of October 2020. Very tasty, cheap, and fast. I particularly liked the radish and mixed vegetable buns. A good option to pick up for a train ride or snack.

Pretty sure it’s fully vegan EDIT: YES CHANGED - Edit
Firstly, these oyaki are AMAZING. I’ve had them four times now and they’re just so so good. My savory favorites are green onion and mixed vegetables and my favorite sweet is azuki bean. Secondly, I asked the staff and they said all the balls are vegan. Might’ve been only on that specific day, but I haven’t seen them serve any balls with meat. I’d assume the place is at least fully vegetarian, maybe vegan.

Delicious vegan oyaki - Edit
We were very pleased to have delicious vegan oyaki in such a convenient location. We ate here multiple times trying almost every flavour. The adzuki bean ones were slighty sweet and we liked having that one for dessert. Of the savoury ones, we particularly enjoyed the mixed vegetable and one of the types of mushroom varieties.

Grab some to take home, too. - Edit
Easy access if travelling through Nagano train station. Eat some there (or the lounge area in that food court) and take some with you, too. We ate there in the morning, as we arrived in Nagano for a day trip, then grabbed some for the train back, as well as some frozen ones to eat at our on-snow accommodation! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The buckwheat flour dough has a lovely non-gummy texture and every filling we tried (almost all of them) was delicious- very hard to narrow our choices down.

In the middle of Nagano train station was the last place I expected to find vegan food. Not only that, vegan local specialties. Super sweet people - I asked via Google Translate to make sure all vegan and they are! SO. GOOD.

Easy to grab on our way to the train out of Nagano. Super tasty (except the thistle, which wasn’t my style). Despite the fact that the dough is buckwheat-based I guess it still has wheat because the staff said that none of them were gluten free, so my wife was disappointed.

Delicious Oyaki - Edit
What a simple but delicious meal - Oyaki, a bun stuffed with vegetables and a local speciality of Nagano. The mixed vegetables was our favorite but we also enjoyed the pumpkin, green onion and mushroom. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Although a take out or take away, there is seating only a few metres away which is next to a bar where we also sampled some local beer on tap - a perfect complement to the meal. Highly recommended.

Irohado Oyaki stall, Friday, 30/6/2017 1pm
Read moreThis was just inside the Midori department store 2nd floor, accessed from the pedestrian overbridge. Staff very friendly and helpful and heated up the Oyaki so we could it it there in the foodcourt seating area. They pointed out which ones we could eat and gave us an English language printed explanation of Oyaki. We had mixed vegetable, pumpkin, bunashimeiji (mushroom) and adzuki bean filled ones and all were great. There were two other siilar stalls adjacent to Irahado and we had eggplant, thistle and plain and spicy nozawana-filled ones from there. all were good too. These are quite filling and good value. Will probably be having more given limited vegan options that we know of in Nagano.
Pros: easy to find, friendly and helpful, tasty, filling food at good price
