My favorite vegan restaurant !! - Edit

The food was delicious and the service was impeccable! My friend and I tried the 2 burgers. Personally, I prefered the mushroom burger but both were amazing. The restaurant is also really nice, clean and cozy.
A MUST TRY !!! :)

Pleasantly surprised! - Edit

I'm taken aback by the mixed reviews here because I thought our dinner was excellent and much better than I expected. I guess it highly depends on what you order. We basically did a three-course dinner à la carte for two. Got an app and a main off the daily specials, and the mushroom pocket and the tofu bourguignon off the regular menu. For dessert, we had the triple chocolate cake and the mango crème brûlée. Their menu wasn't all that original or creative, but everything was well prepared, presented, and tasty. Service was very warm and friendly. Portions were adequate. Our bill came to CAD71 after tax, which I found more than reasonable (especially at the current exchange rate against the USD).

Based on my research, if you're in the mood for something nicer, fancier than your regular veg*n casual joints dotted around the city, this place would be your best bet. While I definitely wouldn't go so far as to put it in the same league as the numerous upscale veg*n restaurants in the US, I still feel comfortable recommending it.

Pros: great food, warm staff, good value

Loved everything! - Edit

Exceptional, out-of-the-ordinary vegan food at its best. We had dinner there twice with friends during our recent visit to Montreal. Our only regret was that we didn't have more times to eat there. The food is elevated--from starters to dessert, the restaurant is modern-bistro style, the wait staff is perfect. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Pros: Special food, Lovely atmosphere, Great service

Cons: None

left hungry and angry - Edit

I have been a long time fan of Invitation V. My parents rarely visit me in Montreal, but when they do, they ask to go to Invitation V for a brunch or dinner. Today marked my last visit to this restaurant, breaking the loving TWO-YEAR relationship with this place. I will never ever visit Invitation V again. Today we ordered omelette and two salads, none of them represented what the food was like. My mom ordered the tofu omelette, which was bland and tasted like uncooked dough warmed up in the microwave. The dish was drowning in the sauce to the point my mother did not finish the plate. She ate the fruits on the side and was left hungry. I had the kale salad, which was drowning in a vinaigrette dressing. Besides, the salad was nothing special - I do not believe that kale, radish and tomatoes alone deserve my $11. I could not finish a half of my plate either. We asked the server whether the chef changed, she replied no. We politely asked for the bill, paid $65 something for the food that left us hungry and began to quietly leave the restaurant. This is where the story begins. Before leaving Invitation V, I was stopped by the server. She held the credit card receipt from our payment and said we did not leave tips. I felt puzzled, but I replied that we did not enjoy food and, thus, did not leave tips. The server replied: "You have to leave 15% minimum. It is by law in Quebec." WHAT THE HELL ON EARTH IS THIS!? I know I speak English, so I may not look like a local, but this is pure bull shit. She DEMANDED TIPS from me. Instead of arguing with stupidity, I assured the server that I also work in restaurant industry here in Quebec, I have never heard of this law. She replied that she will have to pay my bill to the restaurant because we did not leave tips. I advised her to find another job. Apparently, anything said before did not count for this lady. She came up with another way to make me pay the tip. She said we need to pay for the service, not the quality of the food. Again, my only response is that we did not like either of those two and will not pay the tip. If you remember, when she served us, we told we did not like food so she could take away our plates. The lady only shrugged, left us in silence, and did not even offer us to talk to the chef. Her final sentence was the "by law in Quebec 15%" so I told her she either lets me leave the restaurant or I call the police. She let me go.

Pros: Super friendly staff

Cons: Salty

Nice Fine Dining Spot - Edit

Oops, thought I had already written a review a while ago. I went here a few times when I was living just up the street in Outremont. The food is nice and well presented, though I would agree that it is a little pricy, though not any more so than the surrounding restaurants in the area. The rice that comes wrapped in the banana leaf is really, really good. They also have a nice selection of local beers...we had a really nice whiskey beer. They also have brunch, which looks tasty, but sadly I had not had a chance to try. We once wanted to go back just to have the beer again after we had eaten at another restaurant, but in Quebec most restaurants can only serve alcohol with food. Even though we came in 15 minutes after the kitchen had closed, they offered to make us some food, but we were too stuffed hehe. I really like that kind of attitude.

Pros: really nice staff, changing menu

Cons: a bit pricy

Delicious Shiitake Meatballs - Edit

May 2015. I loved those shiitake balls and would have loved to try the steamed dumplings but 3 bucks per dumpling is triple the average price. Had the satays tempeh brochette with peanut sauce, boring. Mains: Tempeh Burger and salad, pricey but very good. The curry mijote was also tasty.

Summary: I agree with the other reviewer who said that not all the food is good. At these prices, hit or miss dining is not very tempting.

Pros: Depends what you order., Good service

Cons: Expensive

Disappointed - Edit

I've been to this restaurant quite a few times and every time, I'm disappointed by at least half the dishes. While the presentation is always nice, the food is often bland.

I recommend the crème brûlée with mango... this is seriously good.

Pros: Friendly staff, Vegan alcohol, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Expensive, Hit or miss

Stylish vegan restaurant! But too much pricey... - Edit

I've been here for dinner and have not regretted it, except for the very high prices... The place is very nice, with a modern and casual atmosphere. You can eat at the bar or at a table, both being convenient. The staff is friendly and attentive.

In terms of food, I took a cocktail, the "artichaud d'or", a tamal with a fondue and their blackberry cheesecake. The artichaud d'or and the cheesecake were really amazing. However, I found the cocktail and the tamal-fondue relatively basic. If the fondue was nicely presented, it was only simple vegetables with a tamal that could have been more spicy.

I paid more than 50 dollars for all that, which is clearly overpriced considering portions and quality. This place remains a very good vegan restaurant but need to ajust downward its prices or increase its food quality.

Pros: good food, nice place, friendly staff, great desserts

Cons: very pricey, food sometimes not impressive
